My first multi layer trip took just under 2 hours and 3 of us threw 48 layers for over 2.1 million mu!!! My largest field was over 57,000 mu!!! Epic night out... And it made check point!!! I wish I could show pictures!!
thanks for all the great tips. I just started playing about 14 days ago. I built a 11 layer burrito field last night in Seoul and got about 200k MU. All on foot
Hi Colin, A14 ENL agent @Kegulf from Bergen, Norway here, I have two things you might like to know :D Maybe you could use this for your Protips :) 1. When linking TO the anchors field up the base field, (Anchor A to B to Stringportal 1), then link Stringportal 2 to A and B THEN in to String 1 for the "sliver" fields, the way you show only gives 3 fields, the way I suggest gives you 4 :) 2. When linking FROM one of the anchors, or from both if you are two players, start by linking the string portals in a line as you showed. Proceed to Anchors but instead of linking 1-2-3-.... and only getting the AP for one field per link, as you would by doing it the way you showed in the two man bit, you START by linking the biggest field first, then the second largest, you would get the "sliver" effect on all 7 links. Recap insted of 7 fields by going 1-2-3-4-5-6-7, you get 13 fields by going 7-6-5-4-3-2-1 :) (This tip does NOT (usually) apply to anything bigger than a 7 layered "burrito" field :p If that for some reason was unclear, ping me on HO and I'll give you a more in-dept explaination :)
Odd Martin I had to run a correction in Protips 2 because I fucked up the fielding instructions. I'll actually be reshooting the entire fielding 201 sometime in the future
Collin thank you so much for this video. I am a new Ingress player as of last week and this video really helped me out. I went from level 5 to level 6 last night using this strategy and before last night i had just barely hit level 5. Because of the low level I am at everything got reclaimed but it was a great way to get some experience and to learn how to field more effectively.
8:45 I'm pretty sure you're supposed to throw the layer before throwing back to your previous layer portal... Am I mistaken or are you loosing out on a field by doing the way in the video?
When you link portal 2 to 1 for example before linking to the anchors, it will not give you 3 additional fields. It will only give you the 2 small fields, disregarding the big field.
Awesome videos...but this made me cringe. Always throw the connecting link between layered anchors last! It gets an extra layer instead of sliver fields
A faster way to check cycle/checkpoint times on Android, if you aren't currently in the app, is to use the official Ingress widget that comes bundled with the game on Google Play. It displays checkpoint & cycle times, regional scores, and opens Ingress when you click on it. :)
ok, so this is brilliant, My only question is, What happens when my own faction has links in the way? Can't destroy our own links right? My place is a hodge podge of bad fields. Also... Once we get all the stuff out of the way, if I am driving an hour or so away, how do we make sure that no one screws it up while I'm driving for the uber fields you know? I don't mind driving a ways, but, i don't want to waste the trip you know?
+Kyodai Baldemar you cant always stop blocking links from popping up (happens to us all), but the protips series has some suggestions to minimize them. As far as killing your own teams links you'll need to use use the very rare Jarvis or ADA portal viruses to flip the portal to the opposing faction which will kill the link.
never drop your keys you're farming for. put them in a capsule after every hack. and when you throw massive fields in an active area you have to set up blocking links so your opponents can't send a link to stop you. also we wait for the 5 min mark to start throwing. less chance of it being taken down before the check point.
I think this is not really maximized, you're losing a lot of MUs by doing it this way. For instance, you shouldn't do "4 to 3, anchors". You should do "anchors and then 4 to 3" (that counts for all the repetitive steps you made). Nice video though, but I recommend you to look up "ingress field maximization". Thanks for the video!
They can if they are around. Alternatively you can put them in a capsule which will "remove them from your inventory" and let you hack another one, but since most agents don't pick up piles of keys they see lying around but don't need I've never personally had an issue with someone snagging my anchor keys.
juhs GA ENL There's a correction in Protips one on that. since I film and edit all these things while drinking and that leads to mistakes. There's current plans to refilm it
hello! im smoochdog aka ramil lauron from the philippine. its much safer to transfer your portal key to the MUFG capsule rather than drop it. then hack again
it is indeed and I think we recommend that either here or in a protips (or in ingress efficiencies)... I can never remember which one. the keys on the ground is just the quickest possible way, but as you mentioned not the safest
A quarter million?? You can do so much better if you have enough layers. It takes more time this way but farm like 30-40 keys for each of the two anchors. Then keep layering and layering. My wife and I did this recently and wound up with 30 layers and close to 2 million mu.
Really grates on me how you call AP "points". I feel you should be calling XM and AP by their real names, considering the aim of these videos is education. Other than this, I'm really enjoying the series. -allbunsglazing lvl 9
Stefan Nygren I went with the toss it on the ground method since 1. If you have keys to 300+ portals then finding the key to put in the capsule becomes personally annoying to me and takes more time then picking them back up. 2. Some players don't have capsules (although rarely)
You should link to both anchors _first_ and then do the internal link. That gets 4 fields instead of 3 fields.
For key farming you can also "hide" keys in capsules. This keeps them from being stolen from right under you. True story

I tripped out when you did the zoom in on the field - I knew allll of those places. Flashbacks. XD

I always link to the outside anchors first...still makes a bigger field, THEN link internally to the closer anchor portal to get 2 more fields ;)
where is the link to the page to download--I scrolled down in comments and i don't see any link??
Awesome videos...but this made me cringe. Always throw the connecting link between layered anchors last! It gets an extra layer instead of sliver fields
We just did South Jordan for 36860 mu. took us an hour. Not as much as we've done other days, but fun for today. :)

but how to do that if there are like 2000 links in the way
our group calls them spines, because sometimes, they resemble a ribcage
Shout out to Vincent Marcus for most MU!
Great videos...Really helpful for me as a new player :)..Love this game
Do you have to drop the key and pick up all 8 or can you collect 8 over the space of a day or two without dropping?
Using the More glyph, to my knowledge, yes.
Im around halfway through Level 4, am I qualified for this if I do it single player? Am I screwed if I don't have a car?
Jared Tamana You can do it at any level but without a car you might want to make a smaller one :)

+Collin Williams awesome, Thanks, will watch that series next! :D
I created 45 fields at 65,000 Mind units per field. It was well over 4 million mind units, and I got my onyx illuminator.
Update, the key icon is in the lower left corner.

or glyph hack with the more glyph.
The fielding instructions are in the wrong order to maximize points. I see that you are aware of this now. Time to take out some green fields :)

Can't someone pick up the keys you drop?
They can if they are around. I just don't get why you call the burrito fields and not nacho fields.
+Javier Sanchez cause you get wrapped up in it like a burrito
Instead of hacking and dropping before the half begins you do the more cliff so you don't have to drop it.
You don't link the internal fields until after you've thrown the layer.. Come on man..
juhs GA ENL There's a correction in Protips one on that. since I film and edit all these things while drinking and that leads to mistakes. There's current plans to refilm it
Collin Williams well thanks for making these vids to help new players learn the game, cheers
#ponyriders work taking that field of yours down, eh +Collin WIlliams? lol
+Talon1170 I thank them when they do. It takes me 6 min to rethrow 150k (repeatedly) and it gave me my onyx illuminator ;)
I would feel better about watching these if it wasn't clear you're a frog ;) .... seriously though, great videos!

CollegeFashionista why not tell people to put keys in capsules?
