    I really enjoy your videos. Even though I stopped playing Ingress, you make me want to go out and maximize those fields! The ending with the fan field-method and just throwing an extra field on the outside was great :)

      he he 😂 well, if you decide to pick up your scanner again, you'll know the best way to do it now!

    My theory on the calculation of MU is based on city centers. Not the actual city centers but also burrows and districts as named on the map. Every conglomeration of people has a statistical number attached to it. That number is set to a circle encompassing a center. Like shooting XMP, close to the center you get more effect and going outward the effect reduces to 0. I noted that making fields close to the actual name on the street view map gives you the most/more MU. So you get MU based on the size of the field in conjunction with the (I assume) median concentration of the circle(s) you intersect. In rural areas this can be observed easier as towns and cities have named city parts that all have their own inhabitants count. Those areas will overlap and have very confusing results as you can't know how big these circles actually are.. But like the conclusion in this video; Catch as many names in a field to get the max MU.... but an extra field will always get you more than nitpicking a map.

    I have a ingress video idea ( how to make max Fields in a short time over long distances like a route )

    I love how you show and simulate your fielding techniques.
    How do you make those videos? Are you using some special program to simulate the fields/links/mu/AP calculations?

      Super late response but he said in a different video that he wrote it himself in Java.

    The amount of views on this is frankly terrifyingly low. I'm considering you an expert on the subject, an academic professor. And In Ingress you need some basic knowledge to get the best out of your efforts....at least i thought many thought that way as well until I saw how few agents attended your classes.
    Anyhow. Thank you for your informed theories and empiric evidence. It will sure make me a better agent.

    As in your other videos, great combination of mathematical rigor and a sense of humour! It was particularly surprising for me to see that the optimum division point was at the edge; I find this actually a bit disappointing since it counters my esthetic sense of balance.
    One thing wasn't clear to me: How did you get your MU estimates? Did you simply use the areas, or did you have some way to simulate Niantic's population dependent computation?

      @57Cell  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Bashan Sheshui thanks :) if there are portals near the corner, they tend to be good as the first split, but if there aren't... well, my intuition fails me there... Fire these videos, I just used area as a proxy for MU (ie, a constant population density)

    • @bashansheshui5115
      @bashansheshui5115 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Oh yes, that makes sense, since a point near a corner is near 2 edges. What I had hoped for, though, was the center. In another game I love, Go (weiqi) , my Intuition agrees better with the optimization.

    And, we calculated the total of three small field portal multiple MU, the numbers can help us what?

    • @57Cell

      see this video, it will make more sense: th-cam.com/video/iH0JMfR7BTI/w-d-xo.html
      the biggest number is the portal that splits your big field into three smaller ones.

    MU Maximization is so weird that one time we threw a layered field where one layer was worth fewer MU than the previous smaller layer.

    • @57Cell
      @57Cell  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, I couldn't believe that when someone first told me about it, until they showed me proof. I suspect it's because of some optimisation Niantic does when calculating MU for large fields - and so MU for the inner fields can be inconsistent with the outer ones if the optimisation kicks in for one and not the other.

    • @93DavidJ
      @93DavidJ 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      ***** well I know why, I've done enough experimenting to know that it's the anchor that you throw the field from that matters. So the same exact field could be worth different amounts of MU depending on which anchor you close it from.

    • @57Cell
      @57Cell  8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      +David Jeffers (Forte) as a mathematician, I've always found that idea a truly bizarre approach to the problem of efficiently calculating MU for large fields. But it is Niantic we're talking about 😂

    • @93DavidJ
      @93DavidJ 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      What this translates to is if you're throwing a simple layered Field with two anchors and a spine if the spine happens to have a MU density change from the inner portals from the outer portals, and the anchors are close enough together there's a chance that as soon as you cross some imaginary boundary that Niantic has set the MU density value could be significant enough to make a larger field worth less than the inner fields.
      At least that's my understanding of it.

    • @93DavidJ
      @93DavidJ 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I imagine every portal has a mu density value that simply tell the server algorithms that if a field is closed from this portal the MU value is a certain amount per square kilometer. That seems like the way I would program it if I were Niantic. Seems like the simplest execution to be able to have different fields have different value densities.

    I dont get it mate. Maybe things have changed but for as long as i been playing if you make the larger fields first you field urself in and am unable to throw links. All ur fielding vids are like this and i just dont get how you can tell people to make they big fields first.

    • @57Cell
      @57Cell  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can't link *from* a portal covered by a field, but you can link *to* it from the corner portals.
