    Beautiful Brian. I saw a clip of him doing an impromptu couple of numbers at Steve's daughters wedding.
    As frail as he was, he sounded amazing. Absolute respect!!
    ❤RIP Brian, Mick and Steve. Rock on in the afterlife.❤

    Brian had gone thru lots of tough time but he never backed down, that's why we admire him even more. He was still very active in his profession until his last days on earth. What a talent, raw talent indeed, the best singer/artist/front man of all time, and it's sickening that he was so underrated. ❤and miss you so much, Brian!

    Poor Brian - such a hard life after he took on heavy drinking mixed with heavy ( wrong dose ) medication combined with heavy smoking just crumbled his body and took it's toll . Steve ( saw him a couple years before his death ) Put on a rocking show ( even though he sat the whole time - he did in fact play and sing backup ) . Poor Tucker being diagnosed with a rare form of leukaemia and passing in 2002 . Today we're left with Andy - would love to catch him live before he leaves us as well . Sweet's Music will live forever . Those Amazing Four Part harmonies were out of this world . Foxes on the Run , you scream and everybody comes . Sweet Rocks .

    Brian Connolly, such a great singer…so sad to see someone like that go through so much, alcohol and meds ravaged him…and him been beaten up outside a pub and kicked in the throat, such a tragedy, he was never the same…he was a talented singer..gone way too soon, to Brian, Mick and Steve, may you all rest in the loving arms of the all mighty, and know your music lives on.

    Sweet is my favorite band, and Brian is my favorite singer, every songs he sang is just stick in your head forever. I also love his latest songs " Let's go", "Lady", "The Last Show"....great voice, what a musician/artist. I am sure Brian, Steve & Mick are having great concerts up in heaven now! Yeah... Yeah...Yeah!

      it wasn't just alcohol, he survived 12 heart attacks and became shakey after he was sick with pneumonia

    • @stevecaine9093
      @stevecaine9093 4 ปีที่แล้ว +15

      I’ve seen Brian’s interview where he stated that the shakes started after his pneumonia, but to be fair, and with all respect to the guy, it’s the booze that causes that symptom, not heart attacks or pneumonia, he had the DTs from the drink. It’s sad, I used to work with someone who was exactly the same, he was a big drinker

    • @Brewzerr
      @Brewzerr 4 ปีที่แล้ว +22

      @@gayleallen7217 The heart attacks were directly tied in with his alcoholism. Heavy drinking causes high blood pressure. The shakes were also tied in with the drinking. Over the years, heavy alcohol consumption eats away at the central nervous system. It was really sad to watch him decline so deeply. He was an extremely talented singer and from what I understand, just a really nice guy. Most people I've known who struggled with addiction have been really good people.

    Poor Brian what a sad sad thing to see him like this.....the demon drink has certainly got hold off him. I was just watching some of the early stuff "WIG WAM BAM" I absolutely love it .....born in the mid sixties remember them at their heyday......mid fifties now and not in good health unfortunately......how I wish I could go back to those 70s days listening to their hits blasting out ......oh well one can dream...😢

    It's easy to see that Brian wasn't in hist best shape and probably the reason why the reunion never took place. I actually heard him perform live in 1984 and I was completely shocked. Even though he never lost his charisma the voice of an angel had completely gone .So sad. RIP and thx for everything. You were truly one in a million

    • @Brewzerr
      @Brewzerr 4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      There are a lot of sad stories in rock and roll, but Brian's story ranks up there in the top 5 saddest of all time. It was just heartbreaking to watch him decline so deeply and fall so hard over the years. He was literally one of the greatest rock and roll singers and frontmen ever during Sweet's early to mid 70's golden years, and from all accounts a genuinely nice guy with a heart of gold. The monkey on his back grew to King Kong proportions and just beat him down to a bloody pulp. Happens to a lot of rock and rollers, but in Brian's case it was pretty damn extreme.

  • @madelainewinger7014
    @madelainewinger7014 4 ปีที่แล้ว +43

    The tension in that interview is palpable. They all look so uncomfortable. Sad to see Brian struggling, he was never the same after he was beat up outside that bar, and the real story has never been told, supposedly a roadie from back then knows what really happened but hasn't/won't tell. After that, Brian started drinking and it was downhill. I love them all no matter....RIP Brian, Mick, Steve.

    Really painful to see but Brian still had his beautiful smile. I'd like the see anyone else survive that many heart attacks and substance abuse without being profoundly affected! He was a sweet, beautiful man with a voice and charisma to rival anyone! Sweet was amazing in their day and the music lives on. Ironic that Andy, my least favorite, is the 1 left. I don't think he treated Brian very well.

    *11:54* Brian was noticeably shaking which affected his speech and concentration--his battles with alcoholism have been documented. It's sad that this happened to a great talent of this legendary band. So respectfully, I'm taking these factors into consideration: Brian's birth with meningitis to a teenage mother and his adoptive parents' inability to access her family's health history to address any issues(considering all technologies at the time). Most importantly, I don't think Brian himself wasn't aware of the likelihood that his health was already compromised before drinking.

    • @chynnadoll3277

      @@chynnadoll3277 I read that from Brian Manly book “The Man who sang ‘Blockbuster’ which was about Brian. If you can get ahold of this book, it’s definitely an interesting read. He also mentioned about meeting Brian. Also if you can get ahold of the Sweet DVD “Glitz, Blitz and Hits,” that’s also a great find. You’ll hear Phil Wainman, Nicky Chinn, and Andy Scott share their sides of Sweet’s rise to success and about Brian. I remember Nicky said something to the effect of “Brian was a nice guy but he [was hard on himself].” Also if I’m not mistaken, Brian didn’t find out that he was adopted until considerably later in his life. Perhaps his adoptive parents believed that this was the right thing to do at the time but it seemed like he didn’t take it well. He’d found out that his half brother was an actor-I think he starred in “Taggart,” but I could be wrong on this. I guess the way people viewed things back then were different back then. Though it’s a moot point now, I wonder if Brian’s adoptive parents were honest in the beginning and that it didn’t affect their feelings for him, if that might have affected his behavior differently.

      @@pleun315 If you get ahold of either or both of Brian Manly book “The Man who sang Blockbuster” and the DVD “The Sweet: Glitz, Blitz and Hitz,” both the book’s author and Nicky Chinn mentioned that Brian was a nice person.

    This interview says a lot! I tend to think so much like Sweet never got their credit to what they meant for heavy metal as like Ramones had to wait till about half of them died to get fully aknowleged for what they meant to modern punkrock. It's about time the guys from Def Leppard, Judas Priest and Iron Maiden and so many more stand up for Sweet to get them into the R&R hall of fame. Hell, even Axl Rose and Lemmy were fans of Sweet!

    • @Brewzerr
      @Brewzerr 4 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Personally I don't think any of them even wanted to be in the same room with each other by this point. Probably just a lot of pressure from the music industry to capitalize on their influence over all the hair bands that were so popular in 1990 (and most of them weren't fit to sniff Sweet's dirty socks). There was so much bad blood between them, and just look at poor Brian here. You could tell that the end was very near for him. This is very hard to watch. They were on top of the world 15 years before this. It's a long, hard drop.

      Brian was really falling hard at this time. The booze had pretty well claimed him by 1990. Even if he had sobered up for good at this point he still would have suffered lifelong permanent damage. Sad stuff.

      Yeah, I think it would have been a shambles. Besides Brian's bad health, their hearts just weren't in it at this point. Too much bad blood and deep resentment towards each other. I think this was just pressure from the music industry to capitalize on the fact that all these hair bands that were big in 1990 cited Sweet as a huge influence (except most of those bands were just awful and got it all wrong, but that's a whole other subject). They obviously don't want to be there from what I see. Any magic they once had got left behind in the 70's.

      It seemed like they were trying to put on brave faces during the interview. Before seeing this, I saw the "Ballroom Hitz" VHS(not sure if it's on available on DVD now)which had Brian, Mick and Andy's talking separately about the band's history. Toward the end, they mentioned a possible Sweet reunion in which Brian seemed close to, if not was crying--he was saying something to the effect of fans being [overjoyed] that this reunion "is really happening."

    • @Brewzerr
      @Brewzerr 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Well yeah, he was a severe alcoholic. By this time it wasn't just a lot of partying. The monkey on his back had reached King Kong proportions. It's especially sad considering how gifted a vocalist he once was, and also just a really great guy with a heart of gold. The drinking started to become a real problem with him as far back as 1976, and by the time "Love is Like Oxygen" was a hit he was already deep into the grips of full blown alcoholism, and a year later he was ejected from Sweet.

    This aged as well as the Gary Glitter question. Terrible interviewer : "So what have you been doing for the past 12 years?", well if you have to ask then the answer isn't relevant to a Rock Reunion. "Do you like current music?" dreadful question, but just shows the guys had no PR guru preparation to sugarcoat their answers. Andy, bless him, was trying to sound relevant and hip and sell it with the Stone Roses name drop. There was obviously no rehearsals to rediscover the magic, no getting together for a few drinks and a laugh beforehand, it's such a shame because if Brian had got himself together they'd have had another 10 years making serious money on the road. The fact it took so long to decide and that it wasn't Brian who said the "You're watching Powerstation" announcement says so much
