We have a silkie rooster who is a spiritual brother to Brad. We've probably had close to 20 roosters of various breeds over the years and this is by FAR the meanest rooster we've ever had. The saving grace to our silkie is he is so inbred that one of his eyes is kind of turned 90 degrees from how it should be, which makes him horribly inaccurate. He can see everything, he hates everything, he attacks everything, but he can't hit the side of a barn. We would have been sentenced him to the cooking pot a long time ago if he wasn't the most entertaining thing in the yard.

Amazing woman, ive never had a silkie, but I've had many roosters. If you find being attacked wears thin, there is an old teaching tool that has often helped me. When lovely brad attacks you, gently hold him upside down and tucked under your arm until he calms. Then place him on the ground and go about your day. Repeat as necessary, but USUALLY only has to happen 3 or 4 times...although i had one stubborn Cock named Darnell that I carried around while doing chores one-handed for two days before he admitted that I was yard boss. He was a gorgeous boy that eventually lost a battle with an owl hunting long after dawn. He attacked the owl that was going for his hens. That was Darnell. I still miss him.

The technique that I have found that works for me with the silkies is mimicking the dominancy. What I mean is you grab them hold on to their back with one hand and make them basically sit down on the ground with the other hand you grab the back of their head neck area and gently put their beak to the ground and hold it until they submit. I had a Brad, he got broke of that real quick.

My grandmother had a large white rooster named White Cloud. He was very mean. Think Brad on silent mode doing speed. He'd attack anyone within his running distance. You didn't have to do anything. Just sitting there or standing in the yard. He'd cross the yard without a sound and flog you as long and hard as he could until you managed to remove him. He seemed enjoy leaving us bloody. Once he split my grandmother's forearm from her elbow to almost her wrist! One day grandma had enough and met his violence with a bat. She threw his corpse away saying he was just too mean to eat.

Two suggestions for dealing with your attack tribble ...
[1] Wear boots with a big snake's head painted on the side. Sensible birds give snakes a wide berth. Especially big, venomous looking ones.
    If that fails, then:
[2] Wear shoes shaped like Velociraptor feet, so you can fight back. If necessary, fit titanium claws.
Just remember ... have you ever seen Brad try to pick a fight with Karen? 😀

I had a rooster that I had to put down recently because he got so sick and he wasn’t getting better despite an expensive vet bill and the interventions they gave me for him. I was heartbroken. I hatched him and hand reared him. He was lovely. Everyone loved him. Everyone at the vets office cried when we put him down. He’d sit on everyone’s shoulder and just chill.
He would challenge me quite a bit but I know that’s because I was always around the hens and they treated me like I was the rooster so I was a threat.

He couldn't crow properly so he was pretty quiet. Anytime I tried to hold him though, he reacted like Brad. He just wanted to bite to snot out of me for holding him. Whenever I had aggressive roosters, I would pretend their aggression was really them wanting affection. So, I would pick them up, put them on their back, and walk around as if I was just carrying around a toddler. I would also pet their face, showing them I wasn't afraid and that, if they kept attacking me, I would just give them more affection. Then they started running away. 😆

I had a rooster for a few months. He lived in the back yard with my 20 rabbits who are in ten groups of 2. The rabbits would try to fight and the rooster would jump on them to show his disapproval. He was a very cool rooster!

As someone who has owned quite a few chickens in my life. As well as someone who is owned several silkies. Take your flip-flop off and smack the tar out of them when he tries to bite you. Love him. Be sweet and kind to him. Hold him and pet him. And feed him. But whenever he steps out of line. Define that line as some thing not to be crossed.
