  • In this video we get the first flight on the 8s Goblin 380 speed heli with a Vbar NEO. Unfortunately the heli had a lot of gain issue and both flights where full of tuning. Still shakes and needs more turning but next time out we will get it!

    There's the real world!! This video showcases how efficient tuning is now. Not that long ago we were walking back to the heli and turning potentiometers, and struggling through radio settings with 1" dot matrix displays and cryptic menu systems! well maybe that was a while ago LOL!!! I would shim that head first, but you know me, im a low head speed guy, I can imagine the gremlins you get into on these high head speed machines. boy she was just a jiggling cruising by!! I would love to see an onboard shot of the swashplate and see what that was doing exactly. Good luck!!

      I remember those days! Tuning with a potentiometer and then you you could get a tail Gyro that allowed radio gain adjustments if you had a digital radio. My first tail, Gyro was a mechanical, one with no adjustments at all. Everything was done mechanically on the Servo horn and push rod. It’s crazy to see how far the technology has come. Lol. I agree, the head definitely needs to be tighter. It was really tight when I first built the head but It’s got about 20 flights at insane RPM. Which at this head speed you have to rebuild the head about every 20 flights.

      I should’ve probably have slowly added RPM and pitch to see how it reacted. Lol but I have a bunch of flights on this helicopter with the iKon FBL so I was under the impression that it would probably be pretty close but I was wrong lol.

      For this set up 93 mph is moving pretty good but it has gone much faster. So far fastest pass is 127mph which I’m hoping to push it faster! Thank you! I appreciate that.

    Man my Raw 420C did that. Lowered the tail gain so low it still did it. Lowered and played with the gov gain. Still did it. I ended up just loosing the preload on the tail push rod and boom fixed it like that. Even though the instructions said to have a preload. Nope.

    • @westhobbiesrc8051
      @westhobbiesrc8051  29 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Preload as in right pitch at the tail while servo is 90 or preload on the push rod it’s self.

    • @Scjon03
      @Scjon03 29 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@westhobbiesrc8051 Push rod itself. On the Raw 420C, the rod is sightly bent causing a preload on it. Yeah I got rid of it or lessen the load by moving the center rod holder.

    I gave up trying to get my 380 tail how I liked it, using a Vbar. I had to change to a different fbl to get it to my satisfaction.

    First ! I can set my clocks to 10:00 🕙 am when Jeff’s video gets to California. 😂 This helicopter has some serious potential, but the sounds it making don’t sound smooth. The Mini Comet ☄️ is also a amazing flying machine.😊

      Notifications on! That’s good to know that they go live at 10 AM California time. It definitely has a lot of potential and it has gone a lot faster and smoother but with the new set up definitely gonna take some tuning.

    THIS is why I still haven't built my OMP M4 Max. I KNOW I can build it, but as I think I've told you Jeff, I've never even plugged cables into an FBL much less programmed one. I know you have A LOT of super helpful videos, but is there one that teaches from beginning to end the complete Neophyte like myself? I can fly them, but I don't know the first thing about programming or tuning them, LOL. This video is very helpful, as I see every heli is different, and what might work for 1 heli will not work for every one. Is there any type of good/safe general group of settings you can pass along or something like that? Thanks Jeff! BTW, LOVE this "Built For Speed" 380 you have!

    • @westhobbiesrc8051
      @westhobbiesrc8051  29 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      Depending on what FBL you are going to use on your M4, I have a full iKon set up video on that helicopter From start to finish. I would say 90% of the time the bench set up is perfect on almost every helicopter for a standard build. If you follow my set up video, I will guarantee you it’ll fly perfectly. Call just might have to make some minor adjustments for styles and things that you like. Of course, like you said every helicopter even if it’s the same build is different so it’s hard to say add this or take this away as each one Hass to be tuned completely different. Some are perfect from the gate and never need to be adjusted and some take 20+ flights to make fly right.

      @@westhobbiesrc8051 Thank you SO MUCH for this Jeff! I have a few IKON2's actually. LOL, I have like 4-5 FBL's but have never used ANY. I'm REALLY liking the RS4 Venom as well, but I think I'm going to go ahead and finally build the M4 Max. I have a Spektrum NX8 and and iX14, so I shouldn't run into any problems. Thanks for giving me the confidence to go ahead with this finally.

      @@AnythingEverythingRC-rc1yc you will love the ease of setup with ikon! Follow the video I have on the M4 and ikon and you won’t have any issues. I would recommend using your IX14. So much easier having a touch screen! If you need any help let me know. I’ll do my best to help.

      I just built the m4 max this week. It goes together fine. Only thing to watch out for is if its your first build do NOT follow the manual to the letter. It is correct 98% of the time but there are a few places where threadlock isn't mentioned where it's defenitly needed. With a ikon/ brain if you just walk through the wizard it will most likely fly fine. On Originhobbies there's a full file of setting for the ikon for the m4. The m4 max won't be much different.
      I'm putting a Nexus in mine with rotorflight. So that will be a lot of tuning and it's a first for me too. But im sure it's worh it.

      @@RubenRC94 Thank Ruben! I'm going to look for some build vids on the M4 Max. A while back there were several for the M4, but not the Max. I know it's probably pretty much the same, but still. I've seen these new FBL's coming out from DJI and Radiomaster. I'm not going to mess with those of course, as they seem way out of my league right now. I'm going to get an RS4 Venom after watching Jeff's build of one for Helidirect. He does such a great job explaining EXACTLY how things go together, all the way through plugging the servos into the correct ports on the IKON2

    What’s your opinion on the new SAB Raw 420 Competition? Did you have a change to fly that one yet? I want to build my first heli and thought that it’s size will be perfect for me. Do you prefer direct drive like OMP or Goosky uses for that size over the 420 comp system? Would a 420 comp with the Radiomaster Nexus be a good setup?

    • @westhobbiesrc8051
      @westhobbiesrc8051  28 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I have. It flown or built a comp 420 yet. I do plan to buy one sooner or later. I know people who have them and love them. Everything SAB makes is top notch. The regular motor 420 will have a lot more torque then any DD. Now, the RS4 Venom is a beast and light but it doesn’t compare (power wise) to a regular motor. I can’t say on the nexus FBL (I just got one and going to start playing with it) but I’m sure that would be a good setup.
