Bro, because of your videos. I got mine and love it. Amazing tent, and I did end up putting a 4 inch memory foam mattress in it. I also installed my overland pro 270 awning.

I’m actually going to be changing up my setup when it warms up again. Is there any chance of getting you to post the measurement's of the rails on the bottom of the tent. I just ordered one for my xterra and I'm building a new roof rack and want to make sure it will fit before it gets in.
So, they are 70.5" long (the mounting rails) and the distance, from center to center, of the rack mounting channels is 28" across. Hopefully that helps!
Can you show it under full conditions zip up? I'd really like to see it with the side and back windows closed for horizontal rain. In your last video, you showed how dark it was inside, but we couldn't see if the window covers are internal or external to the screens on the side windows. The back window cover is external to the screens. I can't tell on the side windows. Thanks for doing these reviews.
Good question. So, the side parts of the awning do cover a pretty good amount of the windows and even in a downpour, I can probably zip them down 7-8" without any water intrusion thanks to the awning. I actually just noticed that at about 8 second in this video (th-cam.com/video/rR4HMJBTmX0/w-d-xo.htmlsi=DUnRU_CcAqF2tcX2) I have the tent opened in a downpour and I'm recording from outside of it in slow mo, so you can see how much coverage the awnings give on the sides. Hopefully that helps but ping again if you have more questions and I'm happy to help!
Here's what it says in the product description. Not a ton of specifics, but it's been great in rain, hail, and wind so far. Looking forward to winter camping in it this season for the first time! Thanks for the videos about this Naturenest. One of my concerns about RTTs is longevity, especially if left permanent on a vehicle. Thats why I really like the idea of the 8020 aluminum extrusion rails sandwiching the whole thing together and one simple main rubber seal between them. What exactly is the top of the shell made of? Is it aluminum?
I noticed you have the same awning on your tent as I have. I just ordered this tent but will need new brackets to mont in the T tracks of tent frame. Where did you get your brackets? Can you show me how you have your awning mounted? Thanks.
Hey there, you likely could mount it on the channel on the side of the truck if you had the right bolts and nuts that fit the channel and will go through your default brackets. I actually have an Xtrusion Overland bed rack and they make custom awning mounts that attach to their rack and stick up beside the tent and I have the awning mounted to that, but it's the same idea. Extrusion channels with bolts coming out of the extrusion and through the brackets to hold it in place. Hope that helps but let me know if you have any other questions!
Thanks for the informative video! I do have a few questions though. 1. Does the tent come with provided hardware to mount to aftermarket roof racks like prinsu or victory? 2. For your solar panel setup, I see you mentioned to another commenter about the 200W panel, controller, and wiring, but will I need to purchase an additional battery to store the charge from the panels? 3. Is the LED strip inside of the tent plug and play into the solar panel controller? 4. How does one go about adding a USB port setup in the tent and integrate it into the solar panel power? Thanks in advance!
Hey there, good questions. Answers below: 1. It does, but not exactly sure how those racks would allow mounting. What's provided are basically u-bolts so it should work with most racks. Not sure if there are proprietary mounts that would make it easier to mount to those racks, but there might e? 2. Yep, you would need something to store the charge from the solar. I would probably recommend a 100AH (I have a 200AH which is probably overkill) and I had this one which was cheap and great and also has built in battery protection so you might be able to forego a solar controller although I'd still recommend just getting a solar panel with a controller to be safe and protect the battery more: amzn.to/4a148b1. Here's the panel and controller I had and it was great for the money: amzn.to/43u9gSo. 3. The light is USB-A so you could plug it into a small battery bank or you could run power from your battery up into the tent and use that to power it. 4. For this question, it's basically what I mention in 3. Think of it this way, you'd have the solar running through a controller, into your battery. Then from the battery, you could find some sort of inverter or way to pull the power out and split it. I used something like this (amzn.to/3Vv3jTs) with some bigger gauge wire running to it from the battery and then it has AC, USB, and other plugs to utilize the power. Sorry, that's a lot, but it's not as complex as it seems. You basically need solar, then the controller to make sure you protect the battery, then a way to get the power out of the battery in a usable way. Hope that helps!
Thanks for the thorough response! After reading your comment earlier, I checked out your other videos on the subject and it all makes sense now! Now I’m just torn between dual battery or the Ecoflow Delta 2 power station/solar panel combo. Keep up the great content!
Good question. There's actually a set of bars that are part of the bed rack that kick out to the side to allow mounting of the awning beside the RTT. You could mount them to the RTT if you had hardware to get into the channels and attach it, but I didn't need to mount it directly to it because of those mounts on the bedrack.
Since I bought mine over a year ago, I've heard about a few changes (ladder bag, USB-A plugs in the tent, etc.) so it wouldn't surprise me. I've only ever seen them in the black though personally.
I think it may be a little long on top, but it would likely fit dimensions wise. The thing I would recommend is finding a Crosstrek forum or Facebook group to verify the best roof rack set up to support the tent. You'll want to check for dynamic and static load. The tent weighs about 170 pounds so take that into account when looking at racks. Not sure if the stock rack can support that type of weight, especially not dynamic (while in motion).
Nope, just a normal, hard shell wedge style RTT. I do know some people that basically cut a hole in the bottom of it and mounted it on top of their SUV and use that as a passthrough. Would make me nervous, but it's doable if you want, haha.
I sent a comment earlier today but do not see it, maybe it never went thru as I had iffy service at the time. I have a couple questions regarding how you attached the tent to your rack. After watching your first video, I purchased the same tent. I also have an xtrusion bed rack on my Gladiator. First, I also got the xtrusion brackets…did you just attach those to the hardware that came with the tent (that slides down the channel on the bottom of the tent)? If so, did you use 4 or 8 xtrusion brackets? Second question, as you have more experience with both the rack and RTT set ups, where did you position the xtrusion upper lengthwise crossbars? Did you put them directly under the RTT tracks ? I do like your build, even tho I am a Jeep guy, my other vehicles have all been Nissan including a Titan. I really like the new Frontier!
Hey there! Good questions. I did use the stock Xtrusion brackets and I used 4. The hardware that came with the tent worked perfectly with the Xtrusion brackets with no need for modification. For the second one, I attached my brackets to the bars that go from side to side on the truck. So, the rails of the tent are resting on the horizontal bars, not the vertical ones. They are pretty close to them, but I don't know that they're doing anything additional to support the tent. The bulk of the weight is on the horizontal bars. Been probably 9K miles with a lot of offroading and no issues or deformity of the rails of the tent at all. Working great! Jeeps are nice too! But I've been a Nissan guy for so long I'm locked in, :D. Good luck with your build! I did film another video last weekend on the Xtrusion rack walking through it in a bit more detail and my goal is to get that up in the next few weeks so stay tuned and there'll be more info coming on that soon.
So, I actually have it mounted to some proprietary bars coming up from my bed rack. It's super close to the tent, but not actually attached to the tent.
Hey man, sorry, I've been slammed and haven't had a chance to measure it yet. I'll try to get you some measurements in the next couple of days and update you here! Also, it looks like maybe the name of the tent has changed as a few people have pointed out, so I found the new name for this tent that seems to be identical and here's a link to that if it's helpful: amzn.to/3Mn9fIs. I'll ping you back as soon as I have those internal dimensions!
Alright, I got them. You're super close with your exped, but it may be a little shy across. I used a tape measure and got 80" the long way and 49" across. So, good on length, but a few inches wide. Hope that helps!@@btscott1
The tent has been great in high wind, cold, hot, and even feet of snow. I used it in February of this year in Michigan and we got 2 feet of snow in the two days we were out, most of which sat on the awning and it did great. Honestly, it's held up great to lots of use and conditions.
@@dab0yhdizzle I run this inflatable mattress in it (it's awesome and super comfy BTW) and it's about an inch too wide so I believe the tent is about 50" across and then it has a few extra inches long ways of extra space with the mattress in there, so it's definitely over 79" long (but with the top of the clamshell attaching, some of that isn't usable. amzn.to/4bpDQ2q
Dude I see you got a XTR3 on a Pro4x, so I assume you do a bit of serious off-roading, how does this setup stay hooked up to the truck, any wiggling/looseness with the tent up that high? Looking at the same setup thanks!
Hey there, good question! It's actually been really solid. I did have it come loose one time, but it was my fault as I didn't have all of the channel nuts fully turned in the channels when I installed it. Aside from that though, it's been through 6 months of offroading and Overlanding through Wyoming, Wisconsin, Indiana, and the upper peninsula of Michigan with no problems. Plus, no rusting like my old steel rack and tons of ways to mount things on it. Reach out to the guys there because they're awesome and super helpful and they'll help you set it up the way you want. Tell them I said hi, haha.
Great setup! How far apart do you think the cross bars can be installed on a 6.5ft bed for that tent? The racks on my F150 are spaced 69 inches apart. How long are the mounting rails underneath? Subscribed. Great content!
Hey there, thanks for subbing and sorry for the delay. Just got a chance to put a measuring tape on it and the rails are, end to end, right at 70.5" so you'd be right at the ends, but it should work. Do your racks adjust at all or are they fixed? I think either way you'd be good!
I actually ran a couple of different RTT's plus an awning on my Xterra a few years ago. I did build a DIY unistrut roof rack which I attached to the stock rack and it worked great. If it's helpful, here's the video with all the info on how I built that unistrut rack: th-cam.com/video/HmoGAGgyh0o/w-d-xo.htmlsi=4j_R4SB5p9zlHly2
No problem! I'm 6'2" and I sleep pretty well in it. If you lay perfectly straight, my feet do hit the "roof" where the clamshell connects, but you can either scoot right up against the screen (big side of the tent) or sleep slightly sideways (just slightly) to make it so your feet don't touch. Hope that helps!
Can you confirm the width of the tent when closed. The Amazon listing shows this as 57in, whereas the one with the rainfly only covering the rear shows as 51in. This is significant enough for me to possibly go with the narrower one, so hoping this one really also is only close to 51in.
@@AllThingsOverlanding perfect. I like the extra protection over the side windows. Thank you for the quick response. My GX470 is narrow at the roof line and 57 would have looked really funky.
Not a silly question! Unfortunately, I'm not a Forester person so I don't really know a ton about that. My recommendation would be to hop on a Subaru specific forum or Facebook group and either ask or search to see if other people have recommendations for racks for that vehicle. Hopefully that helps and sorry I don't know more about it!
You mentioned in another video that you are 6'2", my fiancé is 6'2" as well and we want to make sure there is plenty of room for sleeping comfortably in this tent. How much room do you have?
I'm basically a perfect fit for the tent (just barely). My feet do contact the wedge where the hinge is so it's a little tight. It's totally workable, but he will likely have his feet on the top of the wedge.
It's attached to the rack. They have these kickouts with extensions that allow you to mount the awning outside the RTT and vertical to solve for the angle of the rack. It also gives you more room to scoot the RTT over so it's more centered.
On this tent at this time, I was using the OVS 180 (link: amzn.to/3YFY2dh). I recently (like a week ago) switched to the TopOak 270 and I love that thing. Much more coverage, just as easy or easier set up and tear down, and it's basically the same price as the OVS 180 (link: amzn.to/3Amfrxv).
There’s a spot in the back wall with a pass through and I mounted the booster behind the backseat and ran the transmitter up to the wireless charging area in the truck.
Good question. I’m 6’2” tall and my feet touch when my head is against the screen so I would say that’s about the max unless you’re solo and can sleep diagonally.
I've had that same thought about the awning. Would be nice to zip it off and either replace it or at least get it into the garage or someplace to dry out. But, small price to pay for the coverage and the price of the tent, IMO.
@@AllThingsOverlandingagreed. Great price considering it's all aluminum. Is it possible to flip the awning over onto the top of the tent to allow maximum light in during a clear nice day
As long as you had a way to get the u-bolts around something it should. It's basically just two long sections of c-channel with bolts that drop from those and then secure via a piece of steel and nuts.
Can someone please answer a question I have before buying this. I have a 2002 Toyota Highlander limited Has the standard roof rack on top and wanted to know if I can attach this roof top tent to it or do I need to purchase a rack also? Any info would be appreciated Thanks!
If I had to guess, I would say that the stock rack is not rated or designed to hold the weight of this (or most) RTT's. In most cases, you'd have to get an aftermarket rack that is designed to hold and distribute the weight.
@@AllThingsOverlanding I have been looking at roof racks and Thule and Yakima keep popping up. What’s the best off brand affordable rack for RTT? I don’t want to spend $500+ for a rack but want it to be quality

I just got one. It looks like you have awning mounted on the 2 Channel down the side of the floor pan...what awning mounts did you use?
So, I actually have it mounted to some proprietary bars coming up from my bed rack. It's super close to the tent, but not actually attached to the tent.
Thanks for the review. I have a Exped Megamat that is 77.6 x 52. Would that fit inside. Been hard to find internal dimensions.
@@AllThingsOverlanding Thank you
Alright, I got them. You're super close with your exped, but it may be a little shy across. I used a tape measure and got 80" the long way and 49" across. So, good on length, but a few inches wide. Hope that helps!@@btscott1
@@AllThingsOverlanding Thank you!
do you plan on making a 1 year review of this tent?
I actually made a longer term update video already. Here's a link to that: th-cam.com/video/qo1F5mMdLUs/w-d-xo.html
how did the tent perform in various weather conditions? Any issues that you have faced with the tent so far?
The tent has been great in high wind, cold, hot, and even feet of snow. I used it in February of this year in Michigan and we got 2 feet of snow in the two days we were out, most of which sat on the awning and it did great. Honestly, it's held up great to lots of use and conditions.
Wondering if i can add 2 ich memory foam toppe will clse the tent ?
That might work. It gets pretty tight pretty quickly.
What Sz is matress ? By any chance?
@@dab0yhdizzle I run this inflatable mattress in it (it's awesome and super comfy BTW) and it's about an inch too wide so I believe the tent is about 50" across and then it has a few extra inches long ways of extra space with the mattress in there, so it's definitely over 79" long (but with the top of the clamshell attaching, some of that isn't usable. amzn.to/4bpDQ2q
@AllThingsOverlanding thank u for info imma look into
Dude I see you got a XTR3 on a Pro4x, so I assume you do a bit of serious off-roading, how does this setup stay hooked up to the truck, any wiggling/looseness with the tent up that high?
I think either way you'd be good!
thank you vey much! Great content!@@AllThingsOverlanding
@@cobaltt88 No problem!
Would you mount this to a stock Xterra roof rack, or do you have a recommendation on a better option there? Thank you.
Does it have extra hinges or only gas strut holding up the roof? Did you exprienced any roof closing during windy day?
Just the gas struts hold it up. And they're really strong and the tent doesn't move at all once it's up, even in storms and high winds.
What's the dynamic weight of the tent? Any help appreciated - thanks!
The tent is about 170 pounds.
Thanks for these vids! Do you think this tent would allow a 6’2 person to sleep comfortably?
Hey there, just measured and it's slightly over 51" wide in real life. Maybe the 57" was including the box and packaging?
@@AllThingsOverlanding perfect. I like the extra protection over the side windows. Thank you for the quick response. My GX470 is narrow at the roof line and 57 would have looked really funky.
Does it include an anti condensation mat under the mattress?
Yep!
Hi, sorry for the silly questions but what kind of rack would you recommend for something like this and would it fit a 2020 Subaru Forester?
Not a silly question! Unfortunately, I'm not a Forester person so I don't really know a ton about that. My recommendation would be to hop on a Subaru specific forum or Facebook group and either ask or search to see if other people have recommendations for racks for that vehicle. Hopefully that helps and sorry I don't know more about it!
Any idea of max roof weight capacity once the two rails are installed?
Depends on the vehicle. What are you mounting it to?
Oh, or do you mean in the tent? If so, I can’t find that info anywhere but I’ve had three people in it or about 500ish pounds and no issues.
Did you attached the awning to the tent as well?
My bed rack has a proprietary system with some angled kick outs that come up beside the tent and the awning is attached to that.
Great video,
Can you fit 2 Adults?
Thanks! I would say two is the max but I’m 6’2” tall and the wife and I fit fine.
@@AllThingsOverlanding thanks for the info.
Another video review someone says it leaks on seals. Have you had any issues in rain? Deciding between this and Topoak
I have not had any leaking (and my last RTT did leak, so I'm super sensitive to it). It's been pouring down rain all week here and no leaks for me.
Topoak is great! I knew it from venture2roam’s video. Love it
Where did you the rack to put on top of your rtt.
The RTT includes them.
@@AllThingsOverlanding thank you so much for getting back with me! That's the biggest factor for us choosing a RTT, so thank you!
@@BreannRitter Anytime!
Does it have a vent slot for heater
It doesn't, but like most roof top tents, I just zip mine in through one of the zippered screens and it works great.
How thick was it when closed?
It's about 7ish inches tall closed.
Is your awning attached to the tent or your rack?
It's attached to the rack. They have these kickouts with extensions that allow you to mount the awning outside the RTT and vertical to solve for the angle of the rack. It also gives you more room to scoot the RTT over so it's more centered.
What awning are you running?
On this tent at this time, I was using the OVS 180 (link: amzn.to/3YFY2dh). I recently (like a week ago) switched to the TopOak 270 and I love that thing. Much more coverage, just as easy or easier set up and tear down, and it's basically the same price as the OVS 180 (link: amzn.to/3Amfrxv).
Where did you bring your WeBoost into the cab?
There’s a spot in the back wall with a pass through and I mounted the booster behind the backseat and ran the transmitter up to the wireless charging area in the truck.
Thanks
@@AllThingsOverlanding
Link for the tent correct?
Still works for me! I’ve heard from people in Canada and outside the lower 48 that it doesn’t seem to work for them. 🥲
2:26 I'M PICKLE RICK!!!!!
Haha, good eye!!!
how tall of a person can sleep?
Good question. I’m 6’2” tall and my feet touch when my head is against the screen so I would say that’s about the max unless you’re solo and can sleep diagonally.
I wish the awning could be removed & had a clear roof aka sunroof. Other than that, this is so close to being perfect.
I've had that same thought about the awning. Would be nice to zip it off and either replace it or at least get it into the garage or someplace to dry out. But, small price to pay for the coverage and the price of the tent, IMO.
@@AllThingsOverlandingagreed. Great price considering it's all aluminum.
Is it possible to flip the awning over onto the top of the tent to allow maximum light in during a clear nice day
@@ElevatedVehicles i’m sure you could do that. I have not tried, but it’s just loose fabric so I’m sure you could.
@@AllThingsOverlandingawesome 😎
Thank you for your videos
How thick is it closed?
It’s about 7” tall.
Would this mount to a camper shell also?
As long as you had a way to get the u-bolts around something it should. It's basically just two long sections of c-channel with bolts that drop from those and then secure via a piece of steel and nuts.
Kinda sucks I cant find this roof top tent in Canada....
I know. Sorry!
Can someone please answer a question I have before buying this.
I have a 2002 Toyota Highlander limited
Has the standard roof rack on top and wanted to know if I can attach this roof top tent to it or do I need to purchase a rack also?
Any info would be appreciated
Thanks!
If I had to guess, I would say that the stock rack is not rated or designed to hold the weight of this (or most) RTT's. In most cases, you'd have to get an aftermarket rack that is designed to hold and distribute the weight.
@@AllThingsOverlanding thank you for the info!
Anytime! @@raggar101
@@AllThingsOverlanding I have been looking at roof racks and Thule and Yakima keep popping up. What’s the best off brand affordable rack for RTT? I don’t want to spend $500+ for a rack but want it to be quality
@@raggar101 Honestly, I’m not all that familiar with the Highlander but I’m sure there are some forums or Facebook groups for them with people that would know more about those specific vehicles and what racks are the best at various price points. Nice! Just kind of heavy 😊
It's not the lightest tent, but for the features, it's tough to beat for the price.
Hilarious. "Patch panel" is a completely different thing to an audio engineer ...
Hadn’t even thought about that, 😂
