I live in California and when full featured AR’s got banned, I rushed out to the stores to find one (like everybody else). I knew hardly anything about them. Turner’s was selling them for under $800, but they were all out of stock. I think I found the very last Colt in the Los Angeles area, it was a display model at a small shop. They were asking $1,100, so it ended up being $1,300 out the door. I thought I was getting screwed and just paying a premium because of the ban, but I paid the money anyway. I now realize that the less expensive ones were the “Expanse” models, while the one I got was an LE6920 that had all the markings (M4 carbine, all the C markings, etc.). No carry handle, just flip up sights. I’m so glad I didn’t find an Expanse model, knowing what I know now. I got lucky. Got it just in time to be grandfathered in. My buddy decided to save some cash and got a M&P 15. The one thing that bothered me about his was no heat shield in the hand guard whatsoever, just a plastic shell. The only things I’ve done to it was add a sling, a Holosun red dot, and an Elzetta bayonet lug light holder with a white light. Otherwise, I’m keeping it all stock. The funny thing is, I was never into the AR-15. I was always more into cowboy guns. But I wasn’t a Fudd, I fully supported those that wanted them. I probably would have bought a lever action rifle, but the ban prompted me to buy an AR just as a political statement. I knew they were going to fly off the shelves and I just wanted to help make that number increase. I figured I could get a lever action later. Now I understand America’s love affair with this rifle, because now I’m fully into it. Thank you Governor Jerry Brown, if it weren’t for the ban, I wouldn’t have ever bought one. I just wanted to stand in solidarity with my tactical brothers and sisters. Now, I’m one of them.
Dude I live 20 minutes from the factory. I could walk there and buy one except for the fact that my shitty state will not allowed it. They pretty much banned everything. Can't trust peasants.
I was lucky enough to have taken a tour of the manufacturing floor at Colt in West Hartford back around 2001. The gentleman showing me around explained that the people I watched assembling M4s had a median age of 60... and several of them had made M16s for the Vietnam war. Awesome plant, awesome history. Proud owner of a 6920 here
I have two older 6920LE Colts, and just recently purchased a brand new CR6920. Aside from the old markings, the quality is pretty much the same. If anything, I think the new one with the Roscoe barrel is a better overall rifle. I really don't care for the markings. I care the the parts are up to spec and HP and MPI tested. I care that the barrel is clocked correctly and I care that the bolt carrier group is properly staked and up to spec. It's currently got slightly over 1200rnds through it, and it's run flawless and it's quite accurate. If you're looking for the correct military markings for collectablity, by all means find what you're looking for. If not, this new colt is every bit as good, if not better than the old ones
@@madstan8948 different setup. Can't compare. I'm sure it'll shoot as good as your 6940. I have no doubt about that. But the 6940, in my opinion is colts golden child. I don't think it got any better than that.. Even though they stole the design from LMT, and got sued for it🤣🤣. But seriously, you have a hell of a good rifle there
@@Usmc0341 they didn’t steal the design Chris from (SmallArmsSolutions)-his channel can tell you he worked for colt and I believe helped in the development of some of the rifles but they were not made aware of LMT’s monolithic design it just so happened colts legal team didn’t do their job and research the patent I honestly feel like creation of a monolithic hand guard was kind of the obvious next step in the evolution of the rifle anyways…sucks colt didn’t wanna pay the royalties to LMT or create the design first but thank you and yes the 6940 is outstandingly accurate probably the best AR-15 I’ve ever held thing is built incredibly solid
@@madstan8948 yeah I saw his video.. I've heard the argument from both sides, dudes from LMT say the design was robbed. I'll give the benefit of the doubt, cause chris is very credible. Personally I think if colt would have paid the money, changed the design slightly or whatever, that would have been the next step in the military contract and FN wouldn't have had a chance at the defense contract. As for me, I like the new 6920 better. The roscoe barrel shoots much more accurately, the microbest bolt carriers they use are quality and it functions very smoothly. My only nitpick is the CARBINE written on the side. They could have left it M4 carbine or whatever. But that's not the end of the world for me either. You definitely got a keeper there, I've seen those things go for 5 grand on gun broker. Thank God I can practice restraint, otherwise my account would be five grand lighter 🤣🤣

Funnily enough several of the new CR6920s I’ve sold had the white paint inspection dot on the bolt as required by military contracts. That’s something I hadn’t seen on a new Colt since like 2013.
Yep, kind of makes you wonder where these new BCGs are coming from huh? Is it an old box Colt found in the back? or are they buying them off a gov't supplier? or is Colt doing another run of new BCGs for spare parts for someone? *shrug*
Yeah the 2012 Colt bcgs are the last ones I've seen with the white dot.My Geissele urg-i complete clone has a Colt bcg with the c on the bc and mpc on the bolt but no white dot on the bottom of bolt.
Bought a “new” Colt lower last December and a Colt “16 EPC upper a couple months ago to complete the rifle. Turning it into a DMR. Fit and finish are excellent on both pieces. Haven’t mounted a scope on it yet but dead on accurate with the irons. Cost me $550 for the lower and $700 for the upper. No complaints
I bought an LE6920 in 2012. It's never failed me and it's dead-on accurate. I also own a Palmetto Freedom-15 blem kit build that also runs flawlessly, although not quite as accurate. We're at a point where lower end AR-15s are very well-made for the fraction of the price of a Colt. But here's the thing, had it not been for Colt and other manufacturers out there who set a standard, we'd be living in a world of shoddy AR-15s. It wasn't necessarily a premium, but it was a standard of reliability that other companies aimed to meet. So, no, my PSA may not beat the Colt in a 10,000 rd torture test, but it's going to sit in the back of my Jeep and if I ever find myself in a situation where I need to put 30 rds or more at an armed bad guy, it's going to get the job done. Without Colt and the others, I wouldn't have that.
Really happy I bought my LE6920 from Walmart back in 2014. I paid around $950 with tax. I do however regret shooting it, I ran around 100 rounds of TulAmmo through it (ran flawlessly out of the box) but considering how coveted they are now and how they’ll very likely never return, it would’ve been wise to keep it new-in-box. Great and informative as always Misha!
Why regret shooting it? Your only regret should be not shooting it more. Its a bit of an internet myth that firing a gun majorly devalues it. Take it from someone who has been buying/selling for 15 years, it does not. When a gun is truely desired, if it has been shot or not doesn't impact worth more than maybe 10%. Plus I've seen so so so many guns that people actively tried keeping mint in box with all packaging, only for say a mouse to eat the end of the box or a flood to destroy the box, etc. Life's too short man, enjoy yourself.
When Walmart was closing them out, I just missed out on a 6940 with the monolithic upper for a crazy cheap price; I think under $1k. I was there on a Sunday and they weren't doing any gun sales that day (I think no one available due to staffing) and it was gone when I got back there Monday.
@@misha5670 I’m with you on the “buy your guns to shoot them,” side, but you’re way off on the whole Unfired vs Fired bit. For certain guns, sure, but in the world of collectible firearms, or collectibles in general, it absolutely matters if something is LNIB or not.

Hi, would anyone happen to know who or what the “ I “ stamped mark on the 6920 barrels under the handguards by the chamber and delta ring means?. It looks like a hash mark. “R” = Rosco, “G” = Green Mountain, “W” = Wilson, I just don’t know who the “I” is from. Also, does any know if the 6920 barrels are fully chrome-lined; chamber and the bore/barrel ? And lastly, are 6920 barrels fully rifled the full 16” barrel length?. Reason I ask this, I once heard back when Colt had the military contracts, the barrel rifling tooling was only 14.5” for the military, so the civilian 16” barrels weren’t fully rifled the whole length, instead the last 1.5” were merely a void of some sort or a sleeve. Any light on any of this by anyone would be appreciated by all. Thanks! :)
Can someone offer more info on the SP line. I own two 6940’s. An LE 6940 (2016) and a Sporter SP 6940. Which I have been told is super rarer than the Le 6940 and seldom up for sale on gun purchasing websites.
I regret selling a LE6720 with wildfire camo and traded off a LE6920. At least I kept my Talo edition LE6720 with 10" quad rail (Colt marked, made by Troy), and Rogers stock.
I grewup shooting an SP1. Colts have always just been dependable for me and thus they have made me happy. Sure glad i kept one of the LE6920 US-SOCOM models. Its one of my favorite AR15s in the collection. Its just about a perfect semi-auto M4A1.
@@misha5670 I had one. It had the CR serial number and I was weary of it but figured lets try it out. I didnt see it until I put money down on it. I took it to the range and it was malfunctioning. I guess rounds were getting hung up on the feed ramps which werent machined properly or installed right. Thats what Colt told me anyway as I sent it to em. It took a few months for them to send it back. I promptly sold it. Now I dont regret selling it because of the performance, but I do regret the rifle not working so I would still have one.
I feel that CZ is starting to put the markings back in and I am curious if we won’t start seeing more and more guns with “C” markings? I have an SP1, CR6940 and most recently, I obtained a new “2013 config” M4A1 SOCOM. It has all the correct markings, cage codes, “C” marked BCG. It is very well made and I couldn’t be happier. My 6940 has a “C” marked upper but the lower is the newer “CARBINE” marked not M4 CARBINE. I don’t really mind that so much anymore. I did at first, but now I realize that the quality is still there. I absolutely LOVE all my Colt’s! But if that wasn’t enough, I went ahead and got an FN 15 Military Collectors edition. Just to make sure I covered all my bas4s… lol.
I just picked up an old le6920 roll marked Colts Law Enforcement Carbine, has a almost grayish controls and bcg, marked mpc C on carrier, white dot on bolt, and factory colt carry handle and side sling swivel, and can't find much info on it online or youtube, if you have one could you please do a review, all of the tdp specs/markings are there but it doesn't have the restricted markings, according to colt it was mfg in 2007-09
Kinda interesting, my CR6920 doesn't have its selector stops. Though I would prefer one with the more traditional rollmarks, I still enjoy this rifle, mostly wanted it to clone my M4, so with an ACOG and KAC rail whats not to love?
Misha do you think they’ll change the carbine mark eventually?I know it’s nitpicking but it doesn’t sit right with me for some reason.if you ever get a newer production and anything changes please update us.I actually find things like this interesting knowing each and every detail that changes over time.
Other than the fact that Colt now outsources a lot of components and they changed the markings, is the quality still there? I keep seeing reviews saying how disappointed they are with the new CR6920 because of the roll markings and outsourced parts but they never say whether the quality is any less. I understand being a purist and collector but from a shooting, quality, reliability and performance standpoint, overall does the CR6920 stand up to its predecessors?
These new cr6920’s are the same as a 2013-2019 le6920 in terms of outsourced parts and configurations. My friend who has worked at colt for a few years has told me this. The barrel, hammer, and a2 sight for example have been outsourced for years now, but are still tested to meet military standards. and the lack of c marks is because the DOD requires cage codes instead. I’ve had a cr6920 for over a year now and intend on picking up a new one here soon. Is the finish as pretty as my Windham weaponry or smith? No, but it’s been helluva reliable rifle compared to them. These are solid guns like they have been in the past.
@@MrMaxguy1 Thanks for the reply. I kind of had a feeling about what you said. It’s hard to research this stuff when guys are reviewing things soo critically and perhaps with a little bias. I decided to buy one last week and I’m just awaiting shipment. $849 on gunbroker. I hope I’m not let down but I have a feeling I won’t be.
@@MrMaxguy1 I have a windham and smith funny enough, and was really consider getting one of these. How've you felt the windham and smith aren't as reliable as it is? Have they had more problems than your colt?
Is it me, or do those barrels give off an incredible sheen? Looks almost like they were parkerized and then lacquered or sealed with clear coat epoxy or something. Must be oiled nicely. Keep any rust from forming.
If on the new guns, then that's the Colt factory grease. Its pretty thick and sticky, does a good job, and has a unique smell to it that i absolutely love haha.
I bought a CR6920 as soon as it was re released last year and I noticed the upper and lower are color matched well but not on Mishas, maybe mine was transitional with less subcontracted parts?
Variations in parts from gun to gun is not uncommon even with others besides AR15s. I recently got a Mossberg 590 model that has ghost ring sights and a heat shield, as per its model number. Mine also has a bayonet lug and after looking at a lot of other photos of mines model number I contacted Mossberg. After providing them with the serial number they gave me date of mfg. and confirmed it wasn't supposed to have the bayonet lug so mine is an "error" gun and they couldn't tell me how many were actually made that way.
Get the rifle. Match conditioned it and run it in US Service Rifle Competition. It’s fun and eventually you’ll be able to tear it up at 1000 yards with irons. Attend the USAMU’s Small Arms Firing School to get off to a good start.
Everyone has a different year cut off date that the quality went to poop. I bought an LE6920 from walmart in about 2013, its marked m4 carbine and has all the supposed markings yet some will say its a piece of shit😂 I say its a 6920 no matter what year.
Man i cheaped out and got a psa m4a1 marked lower for my m4 build. Everything else is legit on it just couldn’t pay a fortune for a colt lower with proper roll mark.
Just keep in mind, that Colt marked lowers really weren't more expensive for many years. Heck, Walmart had the LE6920 M4s for $800-$900 there for a year or two.
Not true on the production runs and Roll Marks, I have a 2nd run that looks exactly like it with OLD roll markings. CR713001-CR722100 some have the OLD roll marking and some have the Newer carbine only laser marking. There is also a Recall guns with F1 thru F4 marked hammers are bad (can fire on trigger release) if you have G series or any other letter on the hammer you are ok. It might be just ones with carbine laser marks can't confirm.
I bought 2 6920s, both made in 2012 (thanks, obama). They are correct in every way any Colt collector could possibly desire. I put around 500 rounds through one, and the other one is still new in the box. Same story with a pair of AR-15 A4s I bought around 2014-2015 (thanks, hillary). I treat all 4 of those rifles like investments and will probably hand them down to my kids rather than use them. I have bought many more modern (and better) examples of the AR platform made by other fantastic companies since then that I have put thousands of rounds through, but my old Colts are on a different level of cool. I wouldn't buy a new Colt for any reason. They're nothing more than an overpriced PSA at this point. The old Colt that people wanted 10+ years ago is dead, and they aren't coming back.
Dumb comment, you don’t know what you’re talking about. Sad to see people like you spewing misinformation.. SMH There are plenty of YT videos showing and comparing current Colt with the old for you to educate yourself. No excuse for your ignorance.
Is this going to be how CZ makes colts or are they going to revamp it and start making parts in house again? If they would just bring back the A1 uppers and lowers… colt 733 anyone?
I bought a Colt 6920LE back 2012 and luv the rifle. But now Colt is own by a foreign company, I will not buy any Colt rifles or products from them. I just don't like the idea that a foreign company owning Colt or any American company here in America.
You had me from the title. Recently me and a coworker had some work in hartford very close to the colt factory after we left and crossed state lines we stopped at a gun shop and they of course they had an original colt and a cz "colt and even just visually the difference be was noticeable I'm not saying the cz "colts" are bad but the was a difference between then and it was very interesting to see what to me was an end of an era
I think the current colts are still the ones leftover from the original colt group I wouldn’t place the blame on CZ.Someone made the argument that CZ hasn’t made any changes at colt because all the people at the company would get riled up so they wait a while before they do anything dramatic.
Colt is still making TDP mil spec rifles for the US government and military's around the world. Colt always used subcontractors and it is nothing new. Colt still has its lab that will verify if the parts are within spec and Colt only uses DOD approved parts venders..Colt is still producing 5000 rifles a month..Colt test every bolt and barrel. 20 percent of all bolts tested will fail..A lot of misinformation being spread about colt AR rifles..Try gauging the rifles to see if Colt rifles are within spec and you will get your answer. Colt is still the rifle others are judged by..

My 2014 has the white dot.
My new Colt AR15 A4 has the white paint mark on the BCG. Bought it March 2022.
Brother, I love and respect this awesome content. Great, great job!
Thank you, next video will be a in-front of camera one too. Just gotta separeate them out.
@@misha5670 great perspective!
When Walmart was closing them out, I just missed out on a 6940 with the monolithic upper for a crazy cheap price; I think under $1k. I was there on a Sunday and they weren't doing any gun sales that day (I think no one available due to staffing) and it was gone when I got back there Monday.

@@misha5670 I had one. It had the CR serial number and I was weary of it but figured lets try it out. I didnt see it until I put money down on it. I took it to the range and it was malfunctioning.
I just picked up an old le6920 roll marked Colts Law Enforcement Carbine, has a almost grayish controls and bcg, marked mpc C on carrier, white dot on bolt, and factory colt carry handle and side sling swivel, and can't find much info on it online or youtube, if you have one could you please do a review, all of the tdp specs/markings are there but it doesn't have the restricted markings, according to colt it was mfg in 2007-09
Purchased mine in July on gunbroker. Upper has a cagecode and a square marking.
The CR6700A4 & CR6920 just came in this August. So both are pretty current production. Only time will tell what Colt will get up to next though.
The OEM versions of the cr6920 have the m4 carbine mark… just laser engraved instead of rollmarked
Why no mention of the Colt Recall on the hammers? It affects quite a few models. maybe show what the issue is on the hammers?
Is it me, or do those barrels give off an incredible sheen? Looks almost like they were parkerized and then lacquered or sealed with clear coat epoxy or something. Must be oiled nicely. Keep any rust from forming.
If on the new guns, then that's the Colt factory grease. Its pretty thick and sticky, does a good job, and has a unique smell to it that i absolutely love haha.

I bought a CR6920 as soon as it was re released last year and I noticed the upper and lower are color matched well but not on Mishas, maybe mine was transitional with less subcontracted parts?
Ya, his is quite bad.
do you like yours? is it worth getting for the $$? or like a sig tread?
Variations in parts from gun to gun is not uncommon even with others besides AR15s. I recently got a Mossberg 590 model that has ghost ring sights and a heat shield, as per its model number. Mine also has a bayonet lug and after looking at a lot of other photos of mines model number I contacted Mossberg. After providing them with the serial number they gave me date of mfg. and confirmed it wasn't supposed to have the bayonet lug so mine is an "error" gun and they couldn't tell me how many were actually made that way.
What kind of hand guard is that? please help
Love CR6920’s with intact lever stops not ground off.
That CR model looks to be more of a nitride finish on the barrel and bcg. Or am I seeing things?
Get the rifle. Match conditioned it and run it in US Service Rifle Competition. It’s fun and eventually you’ll be able to tear it up at 1000 yards with irons. Attend the USAMU’s Small Arms Firing School to get off to a good start.
Do you happen to know the barrel material of the colt Cr6920?
4150 cmv, chrome lined bore and chamber
It's hard to find a fixed stock 20 inch rifle. Unless you build your own, it's either Colt, or PSA.
Windham Weaponry sells them too.
SMH
There are plenty of YT videos showing and comparing current Colt with the old for you to educate yourself. No excuse for your ignorance.
Hate to say it but I feel BCM makes better quality stuff now when it comes to duty rifles. They have excellent qc
Is this going to be how CZ makes colts or are they going to revamp it and start making parts in house again? If they would just bring back the A1 uppers and lowers… colt 733 anyone?
They aren't going to make parts in-house again, at least not all of them. Those days are gone sadly.
I bought a Colt 6920LE back 2012 and luv the rifle. But now Colt is own by a foreign company, I will not buy any Colt rifles or products from them. I just don't like the idea that a foreign company owning Colt or any American company here in America.

I think the current colts are still the ones leftover from the original colt group I wouldn’t place the blame on CZ.Someone made the argument that CZ hasn’t made any changes at colt because all the people at the company would get riled up so they wait a while before they do anything dramatic.

What the finish on that barrel? Doesn’t look like phosphate
Its greasy phosphate.
They’re still exspensive.. Back in the day you could get a Smith and Wesson Sport 2 for 550$ or 1500 for this..
I just picked up a new carbine for $700 so snagged it because of price but to pay the regular 1100-1300 I’d much rather build something better
