      it can make the plastics brittle and hard.

    • @liammacarthur9618
      @liammacarthur9618 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Better to sand it with increasing grit to avoid making the plastic brittle from heat

    • @Dreamscythe1
      @Dreamscythe1 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      as the others have said its a bad idea tbh. sanding it by hand is better, heat from a torch or heat gun is very likely to make it brittle. maybe not right now but in a few weeks it can even crack form getting hard. you really see it with fenders

    • @sidneypenner4007
      @sidneypenner4007 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I tried it on bike fender and right away faded to a way whiter color. And the glossy surface soon started peeling off. I tried it on a trumpet hard hat and there o saw the results that are in this video. But I don’t suggest it for bike plastics.

    Whenever I've rebuilt bikes I always put the bolts back in loosely from where they came, saves a lot of time in the long run especially when you have similar bolts of different lengths, another tip is to search for "magic sponges" they're are very cheap and great for cleaning plastics, rubbers and all sorts else, they are essentially a very extremely fine abrasive sponge

    I have a great tip for brightening up aluminum parts without the use of polishing tools or abrasives . Works best on parts with large smooth areas that are oxidized , like old mag wheels for cars. Saves much labor. There is a laundry detergent made for babies clothes and blankets called Dreft, Yes no typo..Dreft. A liquid detergent. Simply spray it on the surface, wait a few minutes,and rinse off. The trick is learning the proper amount of time to wait. Usually about 5 minutes. Too long and the opportunity to simply rinse off expires, too soon and it does not do enough to clean it up. But you can do no wrong. If you miss the sweet spot moment, let it dry and apply again. Dry is important. Always apply to a dry part or it does little good. Rubbing or scrubbing,and polishing is almost a thing of the past unless its to polish scratches from previous non-Dreft attempts. Works! Great for vintage engine cases that are not sand cast as Maicos are. Cleans them okay, but the best results come on parts like fork sliders,rims,hubs,cases, etc. Flat and polished but grey and oxydized becomes new with a spray and rinse.

      Sandblast and anodize. You can do it at home if you are willing to tinker a bit,but its usually cheaper to pay someone to anodize it,that way it will be scratch resistant and easy to clean. Plus you can either choose to leave it original aluminium colour,or pick any of the thousands colours available.

    How did you use the maroon scotch brite pad on those plastics? I cleaned underneath my rear fender with one today and left tiny scratches. Maybe not all scotch brites are the same grit. Oh well I will get them out tomorrow. Hope you’re feeling good these days.

    More than likely the foot peg mount and the torch and air box trick just amazed me I have an 01 cr250 I'm doing a frame up build on and the air box is just crap and rivets are coming off its just terrible and they don't manufactur that part anymore so I'm stuck with fixing it and putting more rivets in it
