You know most of the time when I watch Steve hunt, I’m not really even interested in what he’s after. I find myself more intrigued with his outlook on life and it is his thoughts that I admire most.
Same man, hunting rabbits and bears could simply never be my thing. And yet I still watch all of these episodes, just because I love learning from Steve!

This is one of my favorite MeatEater episodes. The self reflection by Steve Rinella really gets you thinking about your own evolution through the years.
Hunted a few times when I was younger. I went on a different path in life and it wasn't a good one. I just turned 40 a few days ago and I'm getting back into hunting. I've missed so much in life! Wasted so much time. My next 40 will be great! Let's go!! :Thank you to everyone for the great comments. The outdoor community is still and will always be a tight nit community! That'll never change!
Right there with ya, though I'm a couple years younger. I was still hunting blacktail this morning and realized a few years ago I assumed I'd be dead by now. Was a sobering thought, though I deeply appreciate the time to let my mind wander and the space from my responsibilities to do something as simple as sit in the woods with my rifle, waiting for a deer to happen by.
Never too late bro, I was still pretty productive and very active but had little direction and walked around in a constant brain fog smoking cannabis 5-7x a day. Last 3 years have put it down completely and now run half marathons at 7:20 pace per mile. I can’t help but think what I’ve been leaving on the table but it’s not about that, just try to be better than who you were yesterday. Get out there and hunt!
The beginning part about Matt made it seem like he was no longer with us. There wasn't any pickup like "But he is on a business trip and can't come hunting, the loser"
Although, I think the point was that Matt is longer with Steve. They used to be together, hunting contantly, but time has passed and so have their youthful escapades. They each started families and more demanding jobs and in a way, they did lose each other, compared to what they had.
I’ve seen nearly all of them, and this is the best. It’s heartfelt and the themes in this episode can be reflected and considered as deeply as one wants to go while the episode touches nicely on what it needs to without going too deep still allowing the audience to do the reflecting/connecting if they want. Plus stunning footage and a good soundtrack
Man, these later and later episodes are starting to be so high quality they’re starting to feel like a high budget nature show but with a hunting focus. Cannot get enough of these 👍
Wow. Don’t think I’ve ever come close to tearing up with an episode of meat eater. This episode made me think a lot about my brother and how he’s taught me everything I know. Makes you think about life

any time i am in any patch of woods it is always a spiritual experience. i am back in the church of the wild.. i cherish it more than anything. I always take time to humble myself to be so lucky.. to be there to see and hear the birds and animals waking up like our ancestors did.
My brother and I were raised on the Mississippi river, if it flies, swims, crawls or runs in the woods we've chased it. I cherish those memories especially now that I'm stuck in a wheelchair. But listening to you talking about those beautiful mountains there kinda makes me wish that Dad would have settled in Montana. But being a 3rd generation commercial fisherman was my calling and I hardly regret it. We've fished the Mississippi & Ohio Rivers, Barkley & Kentucky lakes and Rough River in Kentucky. But you are making me day dream of your mountains. Thanks for carrying me along. Big Mike...... a Big Fan.
Steve offers a unique perspective on hunting and is able to masterfully articulate his true love for our sport. He is one of the true, great ambassadors of hunting and we are very fortunate to have him.
I've seen every season and I think this is the best episode ever. The music, the edition, the photography, the places and the reflections... 10/10. There were no guests, not one shot was fired, nor were there recipes, but there was a connection with the truly hunter soul.
That's why young brotha, you have to enjoy every second of every breathe with those you are fortunate to have around you, cause nobody's promised tomorrow, and we only have today, to make our memories....
Even when a hunt doesn’t result in a kill as hunters we generally come away from that hunt with new experiences and a heightened appreciation for the animal we were hunting and the environment that we were immersed in.In my case the evolution of myself as a hunter is paramount and the respect for my quarry grows with each hunt I venture on.You have given a fantastic description of what hunting and being in the outdoors means to many hunters around the world.Safe hunting to all.Cheers,from Australia.

Started watching Steve for the locations and game he chases. But over time i realize iam more here for the knowledge and sentiment he imparts about life, hunting and the splendor or nature. He's basically the Bob Brush of hunting. "The Joy of Hunting with Steve" next seasons title..
This is why I watched your tv show and see you on TH-cam. You do not just hunt, you share your adventures and your experiences. Your knowledge gets deeper with each year that you hunt. You go into the most untouched places in America. As you glass across the area that you are in, we who can not be there, get to see a small glimpse of what you are seeing. It is in no way like actually being there. As I look, I imagine the Native Americans and all of the wildlife that you to be abundant in these areas. Your memories of yesteryear that you share about you and your brother Matt are priceless. My baby brother died many years ago when he was 11. How I wish that I had more experiences and memories of the two of us. You have a very fulfilled life. With you doing what you love and your wonderful wife, children, family members, friends, you are truly blessed and you are a blessing to those of us in a wheelchair who can not enjoy God's Country as you do. Favorite episode so far. Touched my soul. All these stories and stuff made me cry a little bit not gonna lie. That's the life we outdoor people wanna live. Simple and humble. One of the most inspiring people I've ever seen and I'd like to meet.
This episode really hit me in the feels because it just got me thinkin about that one place we all have that we go to with our dad or our buds and we have all these special memories of those places and know them like the back of our hands. I am just dreading the day that I head back to me and my dads spot alone and this episode got me thinkin of what that might be like. Luckily that won’t be for a while but from what I hear, there is never enough time.
You know listening to you reminded me of hunts and camping with my father. When I saw the shot of the night sky and the stars that seem like they just showed up and you never remember seeing so many. Makes you forget how dark and wonderful the mountains are without light and how awesome it is to fall asleep staring up at them. Nature is so wonderful. I felt like I was with you because there is never a better place to be than alone, away, and free in the wilderness. That feeling of wonder, excitement, with that touch of fear reminding you you're alive and want to stay that way to enjoy more......
The way steve tells and describes his stories makes me feel like I can reach out and touch them. To be honest I wasn't a huge fan of MeatEater at the beginning but the way he ties family values and hunting ethics into each story he tells, it is hard not to keep watching and wanting to hear more. You have an amazing gift with your words and knowledge, Thank you for sharing them with us and allowing us to come along for the journeys. Great job Meateater I can see how this can cross over to hunters and nonhunters alike.

I have watched at least a dozen of your videos Steve and I gotta say this one that really stuck out. It really got me thinking about things related to not only my memory, but the memory of those in my family and through my past. There are areas that my family has visited since before any of us can even remember. I think that hunting gives us a connection to the past that people do not even realize the importance of. I do really feel sorry for those who feel that hunting has no place in our culture. because we would be losing so much culture if we chose to forget hunting, not only for what it is but what it was.
I don’t know how many episodes I have watched, it’s a bunch, but this may be the very best, definitely exemplifies the absolute skill and professionalism you have as a journalist and a naturalist
I cannot explain how much your content means to me. My friends don't truly understand what hunting means to me. I have friends that almost treat it like their going through the motions. Steve could talk up a storm in my ear and I wouldn’t mind one bit. The eloquence, the patience, the professionalism and familiarity with nature speaks volumes to me. Those that talk down on hunters don’t know about the real aspect of conservationists. I’m sure if they did, it’s be a completely different climate.
I will definitely agree there is a bloodlust when your a young hunter. It’s an amazing moment though, when you realize the full beauty of nature. I’ve experienced this and I see it in young hunters even when trying to teach and show them what you’ve realized. I wouldn’t say they don’t realize it, but have not had that moment where they fully embrace it.

I used to watch this for the hunt then I got into the cooking side of it now I tune in to see what wisdom Steve will impart. I wouldn’t of minded if he sat against that rock chatting all episode.

Great video before I head out for opener tomorrow in Wisconsin. First time going for deer and honestly had me questioning if everything I did before would bring success, especially since I have no one guiding me along the way. This just humbled me to remember to enjoy the experience...
Steven Rinella is a living legend in the hunting/outdoors world. He does not have to kill an animal or even see one during an episode and it's one of the most beautifully designed pieces of hunting film you can consume. It's his delivery and passion that makes us all love his work.
Every so often there is an episode where Steve hunts alone, and he mostly talks about life stuff (another episode was when he was hunting coues in Arizona, and talked a lot about his relationship with his late father). Those episodes are always somehow sombre in tone, yet by far the best episodes.

I will definitely agree there is a bloodlust when your a young hunter. It’s an amazing moment though, when you realize the full beauty of nature. I’ve experienced this and I see it in young hunters even when trying to teach and show them what you’ve realized. I wouldn’t say they don’t realize it, but have not had that moment where they fully embrace it.

I have never hunted and have pretty much zero interest in hunting...........but man these videos are special, like some of the best content on TH-cam. Stevens outlook on life and his passion for the animals Is truly amazing to watch. You sir are a legend.
Great video before I head out for opener tomorrow in Wisconsin. First time going for deer and honestly had me questioning if everything I did before would bring success, especially since I have no one guiding me along the way. This just humbled me to remember to enjoy the experience...

What a beautiful place
Steven Rinella is a living legend in the hunting/outdoors world. He does not have to kill an animal or even see one during an episode and it's one of the most beautifully designed pieces of hunting film you can consume. It's his delivery and passion that makes us all love his work.

This really is one of my favorite meat eater episodes. Great content. Have rewatched several times.
Every so often there is an episode where Steve hunts alone, and he mostly talks about life stuff (another episode was when he was hunting coues in Arizona, and talked a lot about his relationship with his late father). Those episodes are always somehow sombre in tone, yet by far the best episodes.
