I love the idea of shelves that don't have a floor to them, just some "joists". This would prevent anything small and unorganized from being placed on them and everything would have to go in a bin. I'm using this for sure!

    • @kschleic9053

"Oops can't put the shelf here because of the electrical outlet" then "Going to put this blackboard right here" ... over an electrical outlet. A cat run sounds fun; make sure there are strategic carpet/upholstered catbeds at key points of both observation, or other advantagous spots, perhaps one near a computer tower with WARMS, or...at a place where they can be scritched conveniently. 4 or 5 spots should do. or perhaps make those nest spots be modular, and you can move them at will, to offer some flexibility and "reprogram" the runs to keep it interesting for the kitties.

  • @PeopleAlreadyDidThis

Ceiling-level cat run: as far as my cats are concerned, it’s already completed as shown. They only care about a landing pad every 6-8 feet and the occasional shelf from which they can knock valuables to the floor.

Without a compression value of side pressure on those shelves you would not have much friction hold.. The screws however have a very high Shear and tension strength. Shelves should hold nicely. I am, as always very entertained and impressed with the ways you find to build your projects. Not always industry standards and often unique.

Great as usual. As for that big table: you can buy recessed/foldaway outlets that you can cut into that dead space in the center of the table. That may solve your overhead wire issue, and the foldaway ones basically disappear into the table top if you set them in a bit. Just an idea.

I really like those "economy" shelves. My only suggestion would be that if using only one screw to fasten them, place the screw at the bottom edge instead of the top, so you have the maximum amount of wood above to carry the load, otherwise you might risk a tear-out if you overload. I'm totally going to build a set of these for my basement, fantastic idea! Always love your videos.
