I knew Keith from the time I was 9 years old. I met him at Buddy's Bar B Q. Prior to entering the venue, my stepdad told me I was going to hear the finest singer I would ever hear, that was over 40 years ago and still holds true. I became friends with Keith playing bluegrass and he was everything you'd want him to be. Funny, always gave you a hug and always called me Hoss for some reason. I knew J.D. Crowe pretty well, being my banjo hero, and he loved Keith like a son and helped Keith get his writing deal with Sony/Tree. Keith was the life of the party and there will be another. The Country Music Hall of museum should make him a member posthumously......even Garth says so. Btw, Garth couldn't carry Keith's case. Keith's friend and friend for life. PS Those of you who know bluegrass will find it interesting that Doyle Lawson was one of Keith 's best friends.
met him just before he passed. He played Governor's in Chattanooga and the wife and I were big fans and went to see him. Little bitty fellow. Doubt he weighed a hundred pounds even with the rhinestones.
His voice had so many dips, ranges, tones, and he went from one to the other smooth as silk. Very few have that, Jones, Gosdin, Merle..only the greats.
Him and Elvis are my 2 favorite gone to soon singers. I’m from Kentucky just a few hours towards Cincinnati from where Keith and the king lived. I still listen to them nearly daily. Rip kings
Country music hasn’t been country since!! There’s just no “feeling” anymore. Some come close but most are missing what it is that takes you “there”, and that’s what true country does.
They grew up in adjoining East KY counties hooked together by Highway 32. Sandy Hook is in Elliott county. Staffordsville, is only about 20 miles away - taking the short cuts - is in Johnson County, KY.

Yes you are right this new country music isn't the same . It's like the top 40 chart list which isn't country.
Totally agree, took over 30 yrs to put KW in the Hof, Keith Whitley didn't need country music, country music needed him
Keith shows incredible range in this performance. Flawless transition as well. What a talent he was
Amen to that. I wish I could of meet him. And sang with him.
I love this live version…
He Said; "it Damn Near Killed me"...
it Eventually Did,
Long Live Keith Whitley...
Rip
I love Keith's music with all of my being. It makes me sad that he couldn't handle his demons. Go Rest High
"They'll probably kill me." Prophetic.
Very talented man, gone to soon. I was so sad when he left this world.
I wish he'd straighten things out for a long time and still be with us
