Your stock motor on the rtr is a reedy 3300kv. It won't touch the slash 3500 velenion out of the box. The Losi is running a 6500kv, and small pinion. Hi rpm, but tops out quick, and a ops accelerating. Stock dr10 tires are way to soft and flexible, and you drag left, as right tire has less weight, and spins up faster. When left catches up, she jumps back right. Get a tower extender for rear shocks, and get them vertical. Yank the 3300 reedy, and throw in the 4400kv tp with a 6s mamba monster for the amps. I've got a 35 pinion to 76 spur, and top speed I've managed on 2s is 66.9, and still accelerating with front wheels completely off the ground. If you add weight to the front, add a bunch behind bumper forward of wheels, and drop the pinion to like a 25. This will allow for the torque to move to ue extra weight quickly, and you should be in the 55mph range at 132 feet, and sub 3.0. turn the gain down on steering, and be ready to hold slightly right on launch, then feather from there. Wasn't really built for drag racing, but isn't hard to catch up with the right equipment. Out of the box, it isn't comparable to the slash or Losi. I dragged my buddies slash last weekend, 2s(me) 3s him. He couldn't touch me.
Also, get a good 150c or better 2s lipo, the difference is amazing. 50c battery isn't comparable. I'm running 150c 4000mah, and can run up to 7s, as my tp is rated at 120k rpm. Castles are 60-80k rpm.
I appreciate the info. Picked up a stock DR10 roller, and starting out at ground zero. Checked out a local club Friday night and just trying to find a starting point.
I'm an RC guy but know little about drag cars but it would seem to be advantageous if these cars came with a 2 speed transmission like many Nitro cars have?. Not sure of the distance you are traveling and measuring so maybe there is not enough time for a 2 speed to kick over to second gear. The advantage is power off the line and then transition to higher gear for speed. I'm a tinkerer too so I think I would try and find a 2 speed transmission and try and fit it in. Enough of my bazoo, nice video and very informative!
Ohh I forgott a important question : I want to start with electronics, that I have here at home: toro 120a esc and ruddog 10.5t moror. Do you think that could be a good starting point? I'll not start in official races, only for myself for the beginning

I'm having more trouble with operating the Skyrc Analyzer. What do you think about installing a Losi 22S motor? 6500kv vs 3200kv , their about $44 bucks on Amazon and that I can afford. I would like to race this season in stock class if that includes gear changes.
@@RoadsideRC Well if that's the case it would seem Losi 22s or Slash would be the way to go. 22s 6500kv and Slash's Trans brake would be nice. I'll check because I want to run stock class to stay in budget. I went from 26/78 to 28/78 around there seems to work and keep the car under control which is half the battle.
Great Video! I'm trying out a 75 spur with 87 with the factory setup (ESC and Motor) Have you ever had a problem with having consistent passes with power with different gearing? I cant get 3 passes in with it randomly cutting power. My thinking is that its the ESC limitations but not quite sure..

Must have gotten a really nice one, guys in our group have them none of them did more than 26 mph out the box no gear change nor slipper clutch. So this is rather misleading
A buddy at work and I both have DR10s with stock electronics. With gearing in 30-28 pinion range and a 75 spur, the cars run 3 flat (sometimes 2.9) on the GNSS and at the local track. In fact, they run so well, the track changed the rules and won't let us run the 13.5T class anymore As mentioned, there is a point of diminishing returns by gearing up. You can get faster trap speeds but the ET doesn't really improve. And another point that was made, battery voltage drops off fast and temps start climbing Another part of the puzzle is tire choice. Hoosiers hook well but are heavy. Reactions without foams are around 16 grams a piece lighter but waste a lot of battery getting warm. The Raw Speeds with foam seems to be a Goldilocks setup for me as far as weight and grip
I asked for a gear video and you produced it...thanks RRC

To warm and clean the tires. Makes a HUGE difference!
There is even a lot of testing of asphalt burnout, vs on carpet, vs in chemicals!
@@RoadsideRC oh I thought it was just for show 🤣😂
Definitely not for show. It's literally the difference between spinning out and crashing or having the car launch and do a laser straight run.
@@troybolton4055 oh
Must have gotten a really nice one, guys in our group have them none of them did more than 26 mph out the box no gear change nor slipper clutch.
So this is rather misleading
Not sure how it is misleading. I tell the motor and esc I am running in the car. Never said it was a RTR.
A buddy at work and I both have DR10s with stock electronics. With gearing in 30-28 pinion range and a 75 spur, the cars run 3 flat (sometimes 2.9) on the GNSS and at the local track. In fact, they run so well, the track changed the rules and won't let us run the 13.5T class anymore
As mentioned, there is a point of diminishing returns by gearing up. You can get faster trap speeds but the ET doesn't really improve. And another point that was made, battery voltage drops off fast and temps start climbing
Another part of the puzzle is tire choice. Hoosiers hook well but are heavy. Reactions without foams are around 16 grams a piece lighter but waste a lot of battery getting warm. The Raw Speeds with foam seems to be a Goldilocks setup for me as far as weight and grip
Was that 2s or 3s battery
2S to align with the drag racing rules
I like the 22/87
Nice middle-ground.
We need new videos
New ones almost every day!
fyi...gearing is half the battle, re-grease your diff ,1 million weight will keep your launch even and strait.,
Thanks for the tips!
This guy is running 3 cell so this video is useless to use in racing
I did not run a 3S. This was all on 2S.
How the hell are you getting that speed on 2 cell??
I show the full setup in the video.
