Love it! Definitely think this is gonna take off. My cousin in Florida says no prep drag racing has been really big the last few years. Got a 2wd slash that this would be perfect for!
I really love that Nova body! Looks like MurderNova. I'm liking this project already, and yes I think this is going to be a bigger segment of this hobby. There was drag cars in the 90s too, but they vere expensive and with narrow selection of chassis and bodies available. I still remember some of the drag projects in RCCA in the 90s.
Told my wife back in April this was going to be the next big thing in RC. Ieven got my local shops to pickup all these parts. And they're selling out as fast as they can get them in.
Its catching on big time in Oregon. Nw hobbies shop is starting this Sunday with a test and tune day. Then the next Sunday is no prep race day at Nw Hobbies. Best hobby shop in the west! 5 indoor tracks already with another 125x 50 foot pro track going in as I type. So lucky I live 2 minute drive away!
Everyone is getting into this! It's the realisation that the only thing different than full scale is the car lol. Best sport that rc could provide yet!
This is pretty much my next big project. I’m still researching the proper way to go about it so this video is greatly appreciated. Also this is the first AE drag car I’ve seen and I’m die hard AE till I started crawling and sold off 3 generations of Associated race cars/trucks, yes I had all of them. Thank you for this.
Yes I do believe this is starting a new genre of RC! My brother has a drag spec Traxxas Rustler with a huge castle motor and 1:1 gearing with big slicks and skinnies. The thing rips!
I did the 1/8 rally slash conversation don't run it much anymore soooooo looks like it may turn into a dragster!! Thanks again mr Matt for a new project!
Sweeping is prepping. We don't sweep in the real no preps. For beginners the 2wd slash has the most available aftermarket in no prep. Picking other platforms while perfectly acceptable, is a huge handicap on yourself.
This type of conversion had been popular while a while now. One of the most popular vehicles to user is the 2WD Traxxas Slash. There are several bodies already available, almost all of which are designed to fit perfectly on the 2WD Slash, including the Nova you selected.
I just stopped for a break from revamping the inside of my hobby shop and tada a video about the stuff we are getting into. Currently making a section for No prep drag cars and a spot for Monster trucks. Planning for a clay track in the spring to start racing on
I have a project General Lee using a Helion Animus chassis. I converted it to 2wd and 3D printed a spool to replace the rear diff spider and side gears. Pretty simple design and should be plenty durable in PETG.
I used shoe goo in the rear diff. of my hpi bullet. Works great as a "locker". Its held up for the better part of a year so far. Gotta clean all the oil or grease outta there first.
Yes, it'll catch on, I'm in the process of getting ALL the parts needed as I follow the Pro-Line setup they did on TH-cam about 2 weeks ago~! Looking for a paint scheme also NOT the ordinary Black they used.
I'm from San Antonio TX and they'res been a big drag scene out here forever. I figured it was pretty popular everywhere. Sadly that's about all my city has to offer. There are crawling even but I'd like to get more into racing
I can help you with the speed. Dropping a Maclan drk with the drk 160+ in a stock drag slash tomorrow, to keep up with my other dragsters. Tp power is no joke and the hole shot dragmaster from rotor Ron is another speed demon.
Metallic midnight blue. I have a track rc10b that may be a great candidate for a dragster. Thanks bud. I cant tell if the wheelbase is the same but the chassis and components all look identical. Hmm, nice.
I always fancied doing the old Gasser class in 1/10th and 5th scale if I could find a tri chevy body, seen a few tenth but no 5th scale. plenty of wheel tyre suspension options i 5th and of course tenth scale.
Oh man I so glad your using a Team Associated, everyone has a Traxxas I only have Team Associated SCT . I was wondering if I could use one. It definitely looks fun, been trying to hold out, but know I am going to have to go for it with your help. Thanks 🏁👻👍.I think it will catch on, I hope rally will to someday.

Now you got me thinking of drag racing to throw into my mix of primarily crawling with somebashing! I hope some day to build a truck you and Josh would enjoy! Thankyou, I cant remember the last time ive had this type of passion for a hobbie and you and Josh really support that with your videos!!!
Also do you have a team associated pro4 sc10...i thought i seen one in your shop video? If so what are the stock parts # on esc and motor???? Thanks again!!!!

Matt I think you're right everybody's got a traxxas or an associated lying around. I've been tempted to do something with them since my local track has closed so I might as well put them back in service considering I spent so much money on them .
Man, I'm into this, but...and it's a big one Becky...I want a 55 2 door post to make Falfa/2 Lane Blacktop car. Mostly because, knowing me, it'll roll and catch fire like the end of American Graffiti (spoilers). Great! Now the wheels are spinning (Ha!), guess there's another RC purchase happening. Thanks Matt.
A few of us are going to be getting together to do this in the whitby/ oshawa area. I have one in the works and know others that will be using touring cars as well
had a hand in drag racing this side of the world, used a Xray t4, with a 3.5t, was a machine. As a joke we got a flying fish (hsp brand drift/onroad chassis) poped a 4T into it as a joke, expecting diffs to explode... well to our suprise that thing was a MACHINE!!!
Add Silicone ear plugs in the diff far better than grease or thick oil, warm them up mould them and stuff as much in as possible ninety nine percent locked but a bit of give to protect running gear. I would like to see it 50's 60's Gasser high front straight axle froma 1/14th Tamiya truck along with leaf springs, solid rear axle froma crawler plus wheelie bar, open arches by radiusing them so you can have a couple of mil tyre sticking out and a real 50's paint job very intricate using silk and net curtains to spray through in contrasting colour's Have a look at the Gassers nations uploads.
Would be a nice class to add im trying to start a fpv on road race class. The only issue I see is the courses are flat and there's no raceline so it's kind of hard to distinguish when the turn is coming up if the tracks were built more to scale with smooth slopes and turns maybe copy a track like lime rock or Laguna Seca it would be more fun the evolution of RC cars have advanced but the tracks still remain the same. I'll ask when I see suspension tuning for these flat tracks you ain't have to do much for your car to hook, carpet racing is nice but unrealistic so the cars can fly around turns easily with their foam wheels. I have seen a few tracks used by IFMAR that looked great but still flat.
We went to the AMA show in Pomona few weeks ago and they had a a drag strip set up. Those things are really fast and there were some spectacular yard sales once you start to get sideways. My first thought is why not paddle tires and sand drags.
I would paint it a bright color, it makes it easy to see. Now lets think about this #1 runtime 5 to 20 sec a run. #2 race it down the track 15 to 20 times ( now the total time driving the R/C car is minimum of 1min 15 sec to a maximum 6min 36 sec ) The closest place for me to race or rock crawling is 60 miles to 150 miles one way ( 1hour to 3 hours plus drive time). Both racing and rock crawling I get to drive the R/C car or truck for 45min to 2 hour. So Drag racing has to little play time for the time or money that I put into R/C cars or trucks.
