I'm terrified of my parents not accepting me, I've been trying to "stop being trans" for six years, and nothing has worked. I want to come out before I'm 20, so I have a year, and I'm terrified still. Someday I hope I can find the courage, and finally be me. I just came across this and when I tell you the village saved my life it did. It took 5 years for me dad to start accepting me and it’s slow but he’s getting better. When I showed him the village music video I could see how he knew he had hurt me in the past and when it ended he started crying and hugged me telling me he didn’t know that’s how he made me felt. Since then it’s gotten a lot better and he still slips up and he’s not fully on board to let me start T but it’s a work in progress. But what I’m saying is the village saved me

Coming out in the 80s was easy compared to what trans kids go thru today (back then we barely even began to understand what "trans" even meant). While I'm not trans, I do have many many friends who are, and this hits really close to my sexuality too. My dad isn't accepting of the LGBT community at all and I felt terrified to come out to him but all I wanted was to be able to talk to my family about who I am. I didn't want to have to hide someone I love from the others, just because my dad is so against it. Eventually I did come out last year the week after national coming out day and he stayed quiet for a long time after that but he told me he loves me anyways because he's my dad. He thankfully stopped talking about how disgusted he was with that stuff too
Congratulations on coming out! Its rough! Especially with families that are tricky to say the least hahah. One thing I like to remind myself is how hard it was for me to come to terms with my own identity and sexuality. Dude, "The Village" was SO incredible! You did a fantastic job. Seriously, I think that's the best music video I've ever seen. Even though I am fortunate enough to have a supportive family, as a trans guy, the raw emotion in the video really hit close to home. Thank you so much for that.
What was it like working with Wrabel? I hadn't heard of him until I saw "The Village" but his music is very poignant.
Also, I can definitely relate to being awkward and prone to turning red. Heh.

Yeah, the video is great at connecting with the viewer: most everyone's felt out of place/isolated/misunderstood at some point in their lives, and the flow of the video (as well as your SUPERB acting!) portray that magnificently. And the metaphor with the birds was really moving.

i just found The Village today and im nonbinary with a VERY homophobic and transphobic family and this song made me bawl
While I'm not trans, I do have many many friends who are, and this hits really close to my sexuality too. My dad isn't accepting of the LGBT community at all and I felt terrified to come out to him but all I wanted was to be able to talk to my family about who I am. I didn't want to have to hide someone I love from the others, just because my dad is so against it. Eventually I did come out last year the week after national coming out day and he stayed quiet for a long time after that but he told me he loves me anyways because he's my dad. He thankfully stopped talking about how disgusted he was with that stuff too
Congratulations on coming out! Its rough! Especially with families that are tricky to say the least hahah. One thing I like to remind myself is how hard it was for me to come to terms with my own identity and sexuality. Then I look at how long it took for me to get to that place where I was comfortable with it. Try and give those around you a little time too! Keep on keeping on kid! Best, August
