If you click "customize new" in that leader select screen you can create your own leader with your own combination of class/race, abilities, and appearance. The cool thing is, you can save your leader so that in subsequent games you may run into them as opponents. It's quite a fun part of the game.
Weird. Just bought this game days ago. Decided to search Arumba's channel to see if he's played it.
Nothing turned up. One day later new AOW let's play. Arumba confirmed psychic mutant.
I LOVE LPs of this game so much, but there are so few that are of both good quality and complete (at least last time I searched... it was awhile ago). Thankyou so much for making this!

I'm glad that all these DLC's has made the game much better because the vanilla game without any DLC is just a complete waste of time and money without any deph and any variety.
When I used to play this game back in vanilla I always wondered if you would play it. Now I get to enjoy another great series from Arumba.

Much as I love Age of Wonders 3, it shines in campaign, not as much in random maps

I loved this gameplay, and would love to see more!
Love this game. Its a ton of fun. To really succeed you need to expand very quick early, so you can buy neutral towns to your side. Also, learn how to flank in combat. Its really strong and avoids damage to your units. Finally, almost every class has a summonable unit that is supposed to scout, like the wisp. They aren't worth it in combat, but they can go out and grab all the cold/mana/bonus early.

Aside from all the built in characters you can also make your own to experiment with all the differences, I personally only play with my own characters in this game.
ShariTraice It was a bit disappointing that he didn't make his own character, but that's how it goes. Hopefully he likes the game enough to make another series in the future?

I think it's because he's still new. If he plays it enough I'm sure he will start to min-max with a character, it's Arumba after all.
ShariTraice Nah, it's not possible to min max the character creation. All you do is choose the appearance of your leader and his specializations. Just wanted to see what a character made by Arumba would look like :P

There was a character creation option, in this game you can create whatever you want.

Nice Arumba ! Btw there are two kinds of neutral armies, the grey one who protect sites and never move and the reddish grey one (like the 3 scoundrels) who wander and spawn armies attacking you stuff.

Every class has a "Scout unit" (that may or may not have other uses as well) Obviously it's Wisp for the Sorcerer, they're (as you've noticed) pretty useless in combat. (which is true for most scout units except the Archdruid Hunter and the Necromancer Lost Soul)
you were commenting that Age of Wonders 3 is "like the other 4x games". To me, AOW 1 was the best successor to Master of Magic. I don't think the "4x" label was invented yet. AOW seeems to keep getting better. BTW, MoM came out about the same time as MOO and had ridiculously powerful global enchantments that later games had to tone down. But the focus on powerful heroes in synergy with interesting global/area enchantments makes it fun. MoM was, "Let's do Civ with Magic!" How could that be bad?

Cool stuff. I bought this game and never really played it. Good to see you get into it and mix it up. EU4 lately is frustrating due to the stupid AI (it needs some fixing first).

Im liking this series! Its a break from EU4. Do more Age of Wonders 3 video Arumba! Lets have some fun at least for major races like Humans, Elves & Dwarfs although Necromancer seems fun as well ;)

Spiderowz He was right though. Epic treasure site means epic treasure, but it also means epic defenders. He could defeat them with his current stack, but he would take large losses. Not worth it in the early game.

Very similar in a lot of ways but in my opinion a lot more in depth, especially when it comes to the combat.

Would you say this game is better than planet fall equal in quality or fall short of it?
They're different in their own ways. I think if you prefer the sci fi theme then planetfall. If you're into the high fantasy, stay with AoW3.

It's good to see a decent LP for AoW3. It's a really neat game, but for some reason it just didn't take off.

The whole time I was just screaming at the screen while he was looking at the preset characters, for him to click on the Customize New! He was reading every damn thing on the lackluster description wen you have everything more in depth wen you create your own hero.
I just bought it from summer sales at first I though it was just a typical game that come from civ5 success so I just bought a main game and now I'm feeling so sad that I'm not grabed the full collection 3 day since buy and 24 hour into the game already
I've never heard of this game before. It was recomended on steam to me and I like what I see. I'm gonna buy it forsure, but, i'll have to run it on its lowest settings most likely ugh I need a new PC it's the only place to play cool turn based strategy games these days.
While Age of Wonders 3 is enjoyable, do consider trying out Dominions 4 in the future. Dom4 is a very special, as it is the only true "grand strategy" fantasy game. AoW3 and other Master of Magic descendants still end up being a tactical game with some strategic elements. Moreover, you play as a god in dominions 4, not some puny general or emperor.

One, I just suggested it as a game that Arumba would like. Two, I own the entire Age of Wonders series and have specifically mentioned that I find AoW3 enjoyable. Three, while the graphics of Dom4 is not good and has a UI that demands a lot of micromanagement, I came upon Arumba's channel through his Dwarf Fortress videos, which is a game that possesses the same qualities of Dom4 you criticize.
I don't understand why you seem to think that I am suggesting that AoW3 is shit or that I am demanding that Arumba only feature grand strategy games. Dom4 doesn't appeal to you, fine. What I don't understand is why you would even presume that I hate other games that Arumba would play, or why I suddenly am a petulant person demanding Arumba should only play the games that I like?
Darcy Reburiano Don't get salty about it. Tons of micromanagement isn't a thing that would fit most people's definition of "fun". And while graphics (at least for me) have little to no influence on gameplay, i'd still watch some of the more visually advanced games, because my hardware is shit. So rather than watching somebody play Dwarf Fortress, i'd play it for myself. With AoW 3 i can't do that. Also, you have to admit, we all like to watch shiny and pretty things from time to time, no matter how nerdy we are.

This is the only modern Heroes-like game that is actually playable. Ubisoft completely killed the franchise.

Dammit. I saw this on the steam sale and considered it, but backed off. Now that I saw this I realized I would of loved it....well im not paying 80 dollars for the whole thing..so I guess im waiting for another sale lol.
I tried this game and I didn't like it at all. It felt very very limited compared to stuff like Civ and EU4. Maybe you'll like it more than I did.
