Hi, mines ofc not connecting to any device, unable to pair or even start them up. Only when in charger they do respond to the buttons. When i plug them in nothing happenes. When I brief tap the noise cancelation button a green light appears when I hold it a white appears. When i try to factory reset the white light comes on and then off and after 15-20sec amber flashes 3 times and then nothing happens. So basically its the same as you show in video. One thing I dont understand is why theyre not responding when not on charger? Could it be a battery issue or its just the same as you describe? When I unplug them as the light is on doesnt matter if its green or white the light stays on for a brief period of time then goes away like you unplug a battery or sometimes it just briefly flashes and then dies. Doesnt this show more to the battery problem? But I will definitely try to clean them as you show in the video. Unfortunately the bluetooth board spare part is expensive and also doesnt guantee the fix. In all cases thank you kindly for sharing this video!

I had the same problem. It wasn’t the cables (I replaced them) and the freezer trick only worked a couple of times. I took out the Bluetooth board and hit it with a heat gun on low for about 30-45 seconds (melted the plastic bracket on the back of the board, should’ve removed that first), and that brought them back to life! It’s been about a week, so far so good.
That said the cables are the issue for many/most people so it’s probably wise to start there if your cleaning is not successful.

@ that freezer trick didnt work for me. So yours also didnt respond to buttons unless plugged in? So i have a chance you say.

Great video, Great master, many thanks! But in 4K or at least fullHD would be much easier to see small details. Anyway best video on TH-cam about how to replace flex cable.❤ I have the same problem and I am thinking about to replace it myself.

I thought I setup everything correctly (40k 60fps) - you should have seen my face when I wanted to export and there was only 720p 😭

Thoughts on the freezer trick to fix? I’ve tried all the steps until 8:58 but still no luck. When plugged in, I only get a brief 3 second green light when I press the noise control button once, or 3 second white light when I hold. Please help! I’ve had these for 2+ years and I’m very frustrated 😢

Sorry to hear that. The freezer trick as well as cleaning the contacts are only temporary fixes for permanent issues. You’re in need of a new signal flex cables to revive them.

It’s called „32 in 1 precision screwdriver set“, I choose that because it even has a T1.
You can find it rather cheap on AliExpress.

Thanks for going through all of this pain, so we don’t have to.
You took one for the team like Apple’s own iJesus Max. Just be careful when walking over water as it will void your guarantee.
My APMs have been keeping me busy for a couple of days. The pattern of malfunctioning is fascinating. I‘m still not sure what it could be.
    You’re German, right?
Any chance I can contact you to compare notes?

How do i know if I need a new flex cable or if my Bluetoothboard is broken?😅
    Here are all life signs:
    - green light when i plug it in (was orange before charge)
    - long press nc-button -> short white light
    - reset -> only 3 orange lights (no white lights)

You cannot. Replace cables first and go from there. I dare to say: faulty BT board is not that common
Edit: Okay, sure you can - measure resistance of the cable and compared it to a new one. Collect enough data to figure out where the threshold is, when a cable stops working. If resistance is low than your estimated threshold, your cable might be fine.

Mine just gave out after 4 long years. It only blinks orange, no white light, unable to reset. I tried the cleaning and freezer trick. What do you recommend? Do you think it is the cables? If so I can give it a shot trying to replace them.

My AirPods have the solid white light when trying to reset - but they do not indicate charging when plugging them in. Would that be a battery issue, or likely still the connection between both sides?

Did you follow all steps till 08:57? You record a video and I’ll have a look.
I repaired so many Max, yet I’ve to come across a faulty battery, but most shops misdiagnose bad connection for a defective battery. But there’s a reason for that.
      Here‘s some background information:
The way AirPods go to „sleep“ is very similar to most laptop when you close the lid: They use a reed sensor. So once a magnet comes close to the sensor, they turn off. AirPods have a reed sensor in each side and only if both sensor detect a magnet they will turn off. (If you’ve ever wondered why the cups can only swivel 90 degree in one direction: otherwise Apple would have needed to put in 4 reed sensors. I almost admire this decision). As there is a bad connection between the two sides, the AirPods don’t know the state of each reed sensor and will never go to sleep, which causes them to constantly drain the battery and it’ll look like the battery isn’t holding any charge any longer. Leave them on charger for an hour, they might just be empty.
Unplug und plug in the charger again, you should get an orange or green light (this even works, without the left side being attached).
But this is where my remote diagnosis ends, because firstly you’ll need to ensure that connection between left and right side is given, otherwise the behavior/faults are all over the place. Only when they behave „normal“, but keep flashing white and cannot be found by any device it’s a defective Bluetooth board. But just like you might seen in the video; bad cables and bad Bluetooth PCB come mostly hand-in-hand.
      TL;DR:
Your battery is fine. Always repair/replace the cables first and go from there.

Are these the AirPod max 2? Or the first gen? My AirPod Max first gen are doing this same thing…..Amber then white but no blinking white…..I have had this issue 4 times in the past.Apple did “fix” them without charge all 4 times. but they have the same problem again….5th time……..I want to get the AirPod max 2 but very reluctant.

The ones in the video are 1st gen - but other than USB-C there is no difference to 2nd gen. Same parts, same issues - nothing has changed.

Hi there, I’ve watched your amazing video. I actually don’t know if I’m able to perform al the steps. But in my case the airpods will connect but there is no sound coming through the earpieces? Do you have any idea what it could be or what to replace specifically? Thanks in advance! Appreciate the your work 🙏🏽
