I’m not the only human on the planet to luck out and find great records out of nowhere. Some of you have your OWN stories like this, and I would love to hear about them, along with anything else relevant, in the comments below.
I used to be a sanitation worker and I have found a lot of amazing things in the trash. Old baseball cards, records, books. A few years ago I found a small stack of records and looking through them they were all junk except for CCR Cosmos Factory,in really good shape and Black Sabbath Live At Last, the unofficial live album and mine is the early one that has Ozzy spelled Ossie Osborne.
On a date with my husband at our local multi booth antique store (also in a scary old building) I found a Budgie album. It blew my mind but sadly we did not have the money for it but it was a cool find especially since my area is more of a country or rap area. So now I pay way more attention in that store.
Charity event at the local sacristy of the catholic church in my area. Found Venom : At War With Satan (no kidding) and Metal Church :The Dark. Both on vinyl : 5 euro each
I was on way back from another city that has IKEA and stopped in a small town that had a record store I found on google. Almost all used records. Found Kiss "Creatures of the Night" and "Animalize" for $2.00 each last week.
Same kind of stories here ! especially with junk stores from furniture to books to whatever piece of crap like a flea market but in a warehouse store. hundreds of lps stacked like after an earthquake and amongst them, Running Wild's Wild Animal MLP. worthed the digging and cancer risk with all that dust ! As for Kreator, I just checked out my copy which is the original Noise version. The inner sleeve has a full page photos patchwork of the band and on the other side, Noise ad with covers, from Death Metal compilation to Sinner albums, some Celtic Frost, Running Wild, Helloween, Grave Digger... And Warrant (not the US one ;)
I'm just starting out, I have about 7 records rn. I've found some cool stuff, I've found a couple stores that sold great records, even S.O.D.'s Speak English or Die, (though unfortunately I bout some other stuff instead) but recently I think I got a great find. I went to a store in Orange County, though it was all miscellaneous and hard to find anything at all. So I went up and asked if there was any metal, and the dude behind the desk pulls out a collection of metal vinyls. He told me some guy sold his brother's old record collection, and it was pretty cool. Scorpions, Grim Reaper, Grave Digger, Venom, Kroakus, Van Halen, more my shit. Then, I go back a few records and find: Exciter: Heavy Metal Maniac, and Exodus: Bonded by Blood. I bought the Exciter album, went back the next day, sorted through the albums again, cause there were more Exciter records. I decided to buy Van Halen I cause I didn't own one, and got the Exodus album. I contemplated buying some more, records, but I decided to save the rest of my dough. I mean the records I bought there are some of my favorites anyways so I wasn't complaining, and I was proud to have found it in the middle of a swampy mess of records.
I've dug thru cds & record's for many moons,I've found treasure on several occasions like at goodwill i found the Slayer soundtrack to apocalypse all the CDs but no box for $5 & another time Motorhead 2 cd collection.also at a record store I was there right when the owner bought a hard rock collection got Dio diver, dreamevil & last in line for 5 or 6 each vinyl also found a brand new copy of Kiss Alive for $26.
Great find stories 🤘I’ve found a couple of great metal records that had been stashed behind some crappy old stuff that some person didn’t have enough money to buy it there and then so tried to hide it until they could return with more cash, I knew to look in these spots as I’ve been in that situation before 😝
Ah, the old "hide the record" maneuver. Last week, I was going through the metal bin at one of my local stores and someone shoved a Tron Legacy soundtrack in there and all I could think was "yep, someone's squirreling that one away for later."
Cool stories and some great finds there. My best story is that I picked up Sanctuary - Refuge Denied on vinyl, at my local sport store. They did have a small section with music there, pop music and country for the most part. But luckily I flipped through them, and what a find, turned out to be my all time favorite album.
God, I love that Sanctuary record! Saw that tour when they opened for Megadeth and bought the album purely on the strength of their live performance. Warrel's voice just blew me away.
I found W.A.S.P debut at a Salvation Army in Van Nuys, Ca. In 2018 for $2. Perfect condition, original press, all inners including merchandise sheet! Tony F. Corpse Post Mortem Superstar
I never find anything at Salvation Army shops or similar thrift stores (what the Brits call "charity shops"). So, that's a really good find for the location.
My small rural town had a vintage store, which has since burned down. Though they specialized in used toys, games, and comics, they also had a large collection of used records. Of course the majority of them were in poor collection and were genres that really wouldn't interest most rockers/metal-heads. About two years ago, the owner posted a message on FB that he had gotten a small collection of hard-rock and metal records. After a quick trip to the shop I walked away with a copy of Celtic Frost's Morbid Tales (record G+/sleeve VG, US '85 M.B. press), Venom's "Possessed" (record VG+/sleeve G+, UK Neat Records, blue vinyl), and Black Flag's Slip It In (record VG/sleeve G+, '84 US press) all for under $60. I typically try to steer clear of records in those conditions, but this purchase paid off and they played remarkably well on my record player.
Don't know if you're familiar with the Japanese proto metal band Flower Travellin' Band (if not you NEED to check 'em out). Found a first press copy in my local junk store (in New Mexico btw) of their grail Satori with no price tag. Cover VG+ and record unbelievably, near mint! Put on my best disinterested face and asked about "this weird looking Japanese thing". My buddy who runs the store wrinkled up his face and says "mmmm...12 bucks ok?" Find of a lifetime-I have many other less important ones but don't believe I'll ever top this one.
@@TheAccusationNetwork Please do so! They have a few other albums, but Satori, their second released in '71 is a proto metal monster. The opening moments are among the best (and most jarring) in history.
Recently, last 6 months, went into a local place which is usually kinda spendy, but hit a prog bin, and saw Dream Theater's "Scenes from a Memory" for $35. Snagged it immediately. Sold it for 5x that. It pays to dig a bit since people working there don't always know where to put things.
LOL. or maybe From Dusk Till Dawn. It might even have been fun to imagine that I was dropped into W.A.S.P.'s "Blind In Texas" music video. So much dust!

What a great topic for a video. Sadly I have no stories like this but one day. Maybe one day.
Oh, you'll acquire those tales at some point. Trust me.

Wow, two bucks! Fantastic!
Nice pickups!!! Love the Kreator and Flotsam OG's. I saw the Kiss/WASP tour in the mid 80s. Before I knew what real Metal was lol. 🤘🤘
I think we ALL saw that tour! March 1985 in Springfield, MA for me.

Thanks for letting me know about the reverse of that inner sleeve!
Gotta love those Burlington hipster types lol
They are a pervasive lot, to be sure. I think they might even be breeding. ;)

Lol. I've hid records and came back and they were gone... Buy now, or cry later!

Yeah, those are great finds. Got all three of those, except my Venom isn't blue. So, good score.

Got a good copy of Abbatoir a few years ago. Had an original back in the day. Great album.
When I was a kid, I only had The Only Safe Place. So, it's nice to finally have the first record.

They really don't sometimes. Good score, btw. Make some money and buy MORE records.

if that beat up cover is VG+ then what the heck is VG...
