The production budget doesn't include other costs, such as marketing. It's generally accepted that earning double the budget means breaking even, hence not successful
@@darj617 Of course that assumes they did actual marketing. I love E R Burroughs' John Carter book series, when I initially heard a movie was being made I was ecstatic. Then we heard nothing for months, I never saw anything to suggest it was out. I had to SEARCH for it on the web to find out it had been released, and by then it was in the $1 theaters. The big budget films, yes they market them a lot, and maybe it can double the cost, but I'm betting they've got it figured out pretty well how much advertisement they need to recover losses unless the movie really sucks - like Water World. That one was never going to recover any part of it's budget. I know they like to claim they spent as much on marketing the film as producing it, but I wonder how often that's actually true.
Earning don't take into account that they have to split the money with cinemas and marketing usually cost a quarter of the production budget that isn't accounted. A movie that isn't able to do twice the production budget is usually a financial lost for the studios.

If they have to make at least twice the basic production cost to break even, then earning twice the budget is a break even, not a loss. And I wonder how often the reported box office is merely the US box office? And lets not forget rental and sales video sales.

He might have negotiated one of these percentage of the profits deals so that the studio didn't have to pay him up front but only when they made bank.

The last thing I saw her in was one of those Travel Channel ghost shows where she hosted and somehow managed to come off bored and nervous at the same time. I think it made it 3 episodes before getting axed.
I note she was not payed or little in movies making hundreds of millions and when she said something at little bit controversy they dumped her right away. Good job Spielberg.
Tranformers turned her from nothing to a huge star basically on her looks - you can bet she got paid millions by fashion companies, adverts, etc off the back of that so I am sure she did ok.

Halle Berry almost did not get any work... She had to ask for work to get on John Wick... Another beautiful actress who had to work for it, be at the right time and right place

Not sure about everyone else, but making 2x on a film isn't what i would call a flop. Shes still very beautiful and while her acting isn't the best its not the worst. Shes there for the eye candy and one of the reasons transformers did so well is due to her scenes on it. Sex sells, for both genders.
I'm not a Megan Fox fan and never have been. I think it's amazing that her acting career has gone as far as it has with her terrible facial skin. I guess make-up and camera tricks or even CGI can do wonders. That being said, I don't think she has much to worry about until her looks fade. If she hasn't proven to the world that she has the acting chops to remain in the game by then, Hollywood will finally cast her aside.
As a millennial, I think I can say why her career "stopped shining" if you want to put it that way. Even if we ignore the fact that she got blacklisted by Hollywood for thrashing Michael Bay, or even if we say that she got typecast as a mean girl or an arm-candy for her male co-stars, the fact of the matter is, Megan's acting range was never that wide to begin with. Just think about it, when was the last time anyone said, "Megan Fox's performance on was so great, it really moved me or made me cry." Never, right? As far as millennials can remember, her "best movies" are Transformers 1, 2 and Jennifer's Body. After that, she got replaced by a couple of the "next young female sex symbols" that Hollywood was trying to sell to the audience.

This was public knowledge at the time - it was a huge deal To be fair to Megan calling someone Hitler was slang in her age group and the older generation didn't care for the new usage. She was unfortunately caught in the middle and due to her age she didn't realize how Hollywood actually runs behind the scenes and that it was a big no no. Bay was hard on her with the work schedule and she called him Hitler for it. If she had said he was a slave driver her career wouldn't have been effect at all and the point she was trying to make would have still worked. Having said that she was already out for me as just before that she gave an interview and talked about one time in some sort of girls school or retreat she took a huge dump and didn't flush to piss the other girls off and now I couldn't get the image out of my head and poof I didn't think she was hot anymore
With these many movies and series, i would say she is a successful actress. Unlike us, who is trying to survive with low income and hard work, she is doing better. 😅

Depp did a movie once, his character is going through a rough divorce with his wife who was cheating with his editor. Between the percentage his editor gets, and the percentage his wife will get, they own more of him than he does. Eventually however he solves those problems. Not going to spoiler, but I found the movie engaging, worth checking out. I was thinking though that Amber was his female lead, that'd be ironic, but no it was another actress - who looked a bit like Amber.

But as a new actress in 2000an one got to play the dirty politics and game in order to make oneself way above. She kinda refused to submit herself to the Hollywood powerful elites which is a good thing, but the timing was not right. She was deliberately overlooked for more pliable actresses and her career got stuck. I wonder why Jennifer Lawrence, Margot Robbie, Scarlett Johanson, Gal Gadot etc managed to bypass her into becoming darlings of Hollywood. Hollywood is a messed up and outright sinister place. Those who seemed to be successful has sold their soul to the devil or the establishment. Sadly, at this point Megan Fox is no longer a marketable actress. Hopefully she bounces back like Winona Ryder in Stranger Things.

Jennifer's Body was a great movie, with a subversive sense of humor and horror.

They were far more imaginative than the crap Hollywood is otherwise producing - even when they kit-bashed plots from the original comics. And I'll note that I'm 62 and have my own apartment. It would be rather hard for me to live with my parents, as they have both passed on.

Depp did a movie once, his character is going through a rough divorce with his wife who was cheating with his editor. Between the percentage his editor gets, and the percentage his wife will get, they own more of him than he does. Eventually however he solves those problems. Not going to spoiler, but I found the movie engaging, worth checking out. I was thinking though that Amber was his female lead, that'd be ironic, but no it was another actress - who looked a bit like Amber.

Megan Fox during her prime was arguably the hottest and sexiest actress in Hollywood. I believe she not only had the good looks, but her talent was quite decent as well. But as a new actress in 2000an one got to play the dirty politics and game in order to make oneself way above. She kinda refused to submit herself to the Hollywood powerful elites which is a good thing, but the timing was not right. She was deliberately overlooked for more pliable actresses and her career got stuck. I wonder why Jennifer Lawrence, Margot Robbie, Scarlett Johanson, Gal Gadot etc managed to bypass her into becoming darlings of Hollywood. Hollywood is a messed up and outright sinister place. Those who seemed to be successful has sold their soul to the devil or the establishment. Sadly, at this point Megan Fox is no longer a marketable actress. Hopefully she bounces back like Winona Ryder in Stranger Things.
