they are disrespecting our culture, they are saying all the words wrong and we only do haka for respected members of our culture, they steal it and disrespect our culture, this is special to us and this is seen as worse than murder breaking our sacred practice
This haka is called "Kaipahua Kura," meaning Red Raiders and was written by Seamus Fitzgerald from Turangi, NZ. He wrote it specifically for the Kahuku football team because his son was on the team, and he wanted Kahuku to have a unique haka. Before Seamus taught the team, he made sure the players knew what they were saying and how important the haka is to Maori culture. So yes, they know what they're saying, and yes, there are Maori boys on the team. I would know, I go to school with them
THIS HAKA WAS MADE BY ONE OF THE NATIVES OF AOTEAROA NEW ZEALAND. Because of the role that his people have played for this team he made it for the mana that flows within all of those boys maori or not. We are proud to say we are warriors. We love the moari people. To all the haters. STUFF YOU!
thats not how haka works , he broke tikanga which is our law to allow you to do it, in our culture you a worse than a kiddy fiddler, child molester. by doing that its the ultimate disrespect to us
Stunning! Lets not colonise our brothers and sisters. There's too much of that going on in all our lives. Congratulations koutou, your kupuna must be very proud of you. Keep the light shinning.
I graduated from Hilo H.S. (Big Island) in 01' and as long as I can remember, two even get a chance to step on the field against Kahuku or St. Louis was already an accomplishment, beating them would be more of a conquest. Besides that, I miss da islands so this haka here gets my blood pumping!! Gotta love the 808!!!
Rahira n Kim Makekau and Seamus Fitzgerald have really tuned up Maori performance here on the North Shore of Oahu. They have given us all a deeper understanding of Maori culture. The Maori Village at the Polynesian Cultural Center is awesome too. Even mayday maori smash. Churr bro.
before everyone starts hating...fyi this was the first high school in america to ever introduce the haka to football waaaay back in the day. also the top 5 high school that produces the most NFL players so go hate somewhere else...
p.s. Saint Louis only won all those years because they recruited the best players from all the schools all over the island... including Kahuku. Any "state championship" game before 1998 was known as the "prep bowl," and starting in 1999 were the real HHSAA State Football Championship games. A prep bowl win is in fact equivalent to a state title, but technically, St. Louis only won 3 out of 8 times appearing at the state championship game, while Kahuku won 6 out of 8 times.
@ilovefrankandbeans I'm pretty sure you can possibly take away 8 of those 17 titles from st.louis. Gerald welch and ornellas family are from kahuku's community AKA Ko'olauloa. They both started all 4 yrs and became impact players right away. I say possibly because 1 guy doesn't win a championship but these guys hold st louis records for receiving and would've been fairly difficult to win without these guys. Also coaches from kahuku community were also on the st. louis coaching staff. BTW Kahuku produces D1 caliber and NFL players every year. For a few years we were amongst the top 5 HS to have the most players in the NFL. Chris naeole, itula mili, kemoeatu brothers, francisco, afalava. I could go on and on and thats not even including the hundreds that have played at D1 level.
I remember being a kid in the stands at aloha stadium and I told my friend “brah am I tripping or you can hear dem buggahs in dat faka” he told me I was trippin cuz no ways brah look um
they are disrespecting our culture, they are saying all the words wrong and we only do haka for respected members of our culture, they steal it and disrespect our culture, this is special to us and this is seen as worse than murder breaking our sacred practice
I've already proved to you that only 3 out of the 8 players you mentioned were form Honolulu, and the rest were from either Waipahu, Kalihi, or NEW ORLEANS even. How many times am I going to have to tell you. Yes St. Louis was a good team, but they wouldn't have gotten their 15 consecutive titles if they didn't recruit people from other places! Everyone from Kahuku is born and raised in that area!
You're right, they chose St. Louis because they were the best. But they were only the best because the players were from other schools. St. Louis wouldn't have won all those years if the boys had gone to the high school in their respective area. Most of the players you listed aren't even from Honolulu. Chang, Rivers, and Afoa are from Waipahu, Maafala is from Kalihi, and Arceneaux is from New Orleans. The only players you mentioned that are from Honolulu are Mariota, Kreutz & Gesser. That's 3/8.
Let me remind you that St. Louis would recruit the boys from schools all over the island, including Kahuku, and that's the only reason why they won all those years, because they were a stacked team with the with the best players on the island. You can't deny that, because it's true.
they are disrespecting our culture, they are saying all the words wrong and we only do haka for respected members of our culture, they steal it and disrespect our culture, this is special to us and this is seen as worse than murder breaking our sacred practice
That is correct you need to know what you are saying and not saying it because its a freakin tradition. Thats a Maori Tradition. But hey sorry if I seemed real mean about you guys doing the Maori Haka. But i think it will be really cool if we got too see you guys do a Hawaiian Ha'a. Now that is something I really wanna see and How its done. Be awesome
Kahuku has many towns with in the district. From Kaaawa to Pupukea their are about 15,000 in population give or take a couple hundred. Compared to Waianae 13,177, Nanakuli 12,666, Kapolei 15,186, Campbell 14,955. Take a class in economics, then you will see the reason Kahuku high school has such a big district. It's all based on population.
Um....just goes to show you that The Buffs are slow...you are living proof! Ya you are right, it is 2012. but the video was posted December 9, 2011 just incase you didn't know...Hence the description saying what it says.
Well that was a mistake on my part, I didn't mean only the players from Kahuku, but ALL the recruited players. And oh great, you found one guy. But let me remind you; HE WASN'T RECRUITED. His family moved here. Almost EVERYBODY from Laie moved here from other pacific islands, and their kids went to Kahuku so your point isn't very significant. And please, I've disproved you so many times it's not even funny... (*Sarcasm*, it's very funny, actually)
This haka was written by a Maori from laie. It was specifically written for kahuku football team and of course they know the meaning of this haka cause they learn every bit of the meaning of it. A duh
If you are trying to say that if it wasn't for all the Poly's that live in our community Kahuku would not be good in Football. What about Nanakuli and Waipahu? They got a lot of Poly's born and raised in the islands in their program. It's not the fact we get more, it's Kahuku's football program that develops these players not Samoa or Tonga. Great players are developed in great programs where they learn fundamentals that help them to play successfully. Our Pop warner program is also great.
I also already told you about recruiting, ALL private schools recruit, but the best people chose to go to St. Louis. It would be the same thing for Punahou, if all the best people chose to go to Punahou, then it would be THEM with the 17 titles. And it was never about all of the players being from Kahuku, my point was that MOST of the players that played for St. Louis weren't even from the St. Louis area (Honolulu)! I was just letting you know that even people from Kahuku played for St. Louis.
ALOT OF HATERS OUT THERE, KAHUKU DONE NOTHING WRONG BUT PLAY THEIR BEST AND YET PEOPLE STILL MAKES RUDE COMMENTING. LIKE I ALWAYS SAID OUR COME BACKS IS THROUGH THE FIELD AND THAT'S WHY WE ARE THE STATE CHAMPIONSHIP,NUMBER IN THE STATE,NUMBER 3 IN THE NATION. NOW HATE ON THAT

What Lai3Boyz is trying to tell you about community, I don't think you will ever grasp the concept or the idea behind the word "Community". Not many people that live on the other side of the island do. It is something special "LOVE" is the big thing behind the word community on our side. We are all Family here, everyone knows everyone. We consider all the north shore towns one Community and everyone went to Kahuku.
@ilovefrankandbeans- Name one kid born and raised in kahuku, played at kahuku then D1 then went to the NFL...Really? Aaron Francisco, Itula Mili, Al Afalava, Suaesi Tuimauneu all born and raised in laie or kahuku went D1 and are playing in the league. Paipai Falemalu just signed a free agent contract with the Cleveland Browns, born and raised on the north shore, went to kahuku and played D1, so just shut up. And uncle rico, if you didnt get the memo, St. louis' dynasty has been over, for 13years
@MrPonolicious this haka was written especially for them (their name is in the lyrics) by one of the students' fathers, who was a NZ Maori working in Hawaii. It's exclusive to the Red Raiders, which is why its original looking and sounding.
We do not recruit from Samoa or Tonga! We do not reach out and beg them to come play for Kahuku. But yes, Majority of the people in our community have roots that go back to the islands. But their family lives in our community and have lived in the community for generations. They do not come to Hawaii to play Football specifically for Kahuku they come to live with their family that happens to live in our community.
Straight up, ya'll are the *only* American team I've ever seen who give the haka the mana it deserves! Love this!
Cuz were polynesians born of the island

I'm glad Kahuku is creative with which haka they do. I'm tired of all these schools here doing the same haka over and over. But I really liked this
good vid, gotta love Kahuku. plus they even let their team manager wear a uniform
before everyone starts hating...fyi this was the first high school in america to ever introduce the haka to football waaaay back in the day. also the top 5 high school that produces the most NFL players so go hate somewhere else...
Im a maori from nz and I usually hate college football hakas but you guys were pretty darn awesome
By far the best High School Haka there is and one they can call their own.
p.s. Saint Louis only won all those years because they recruited the best players from all the schools all over the island... including Kahuku.
