Well, I am a foreigner living in turkey. I came from Egypt and I realized after living for four or five years here that there is kind of education that Turkish citizens had during a lifetime that foreigners or foreign countries are not as much friends to them, which is the nationalism there is an extreme, I suppose misunderstanding of nationalism it is misused and it is extremely unhealthy so they get it out of the framework where it has to be

Jazakallah. Turkey has imposed many new laws for the foreigners to live in turkey. Recently , I visited my small apartment in Istanbul and discovered that my electricity had been cut off because the new Law states that I have to be a resident of Turkey. Resident as a tenant or own a
$400,000.00 investment, or have a Turkey ID Resident Card.
So,I had to rent out my own apartment, hire a Laywer, paid to drew up tenancy agreement, cost 10000. lliras to stay there for 2 weeks. For first 6 days I had no electricity.

From my own personal experience visiting Türkiye, if you wish to visit Turkey as a Muslim and not be disappointed, never picture Türkiye as a Muslim country despite all those historic Islamic places. Forget about moving there because of your Islamic faith and expecting a real Islamic atmosphere, not to mention the poor economic situation. Unless you want to be constantly reminded of the greatness of Kemal Atatürk every day like we had from our tour guide last time 😂🤢🤮. Yeah, just keep an open mind and play along. They do have beautiful sceneries and mosques

"Secular" word is misunderstood in Turkiye, because Turkish secularism is different and not like French understanding of secularism (State Atheism). But in Turkish secularism, state has equal distance to everyone whether you are religious or non-religious Muslim, Christian, Jew, Atheist, and so on. Anyone can get jobs or positions based on merit but not based on looking religious or growing longer beard. In Turkiye, Ataturk established an Islamic authority to govern Islamic matters too, so Turkiye is both Islamic and permitting religious or non-religious living together. After all, it is Quran's command "There is no compulsion in religion" (Quran 2/256).

I mean most muslim countries are not even muslim countries, just the overall population is associated with islam, like pakistan, bangladesh, turkiye, azerbaijan, central asian countries and north african ones. only handful of countries have listed islam as official religion, which i think is wrong as islam doesnt have any compulsion.

Over-the-top nationalism and god-like reverence for the Ata shackle the minds of the ordinary Turks from having another point of view, incapacitating its ability to look at itself from without.
This state-driven exceptionalism has created ugly xenophobia, and as a tourist that experience is never far away, either personal and subtle or deliberately institutional.
A smile may try to depress one's inner feeling, but the eyes never lie. The foods, ancient ruins and the breadth of history of that land of Asia minor is unlike any other. But so is its excessive Turkic pride, unfortunately.

The Ottoman Empire was a country at the center of multiculturalism.
Turkiye, on the other hand, is a country that wants to accept Turkish culture and identity. This means that someone who wants to live here as a citizen without any problems, sooner or later should see themselves as Turkish. The education system in Turkey instills Turkism in order to keep the country unified. Naturally, people who do not accept this identity separate from society over time and can become targets after provocative events.
In short, Turkey is not a place like the USA. Remember that Turkish people want to see the person sitting next to them as someone who has accepted Turkishness due to the education they receive.
