I actually really do like what they've done with it. I don't usually care for two tone gold watches, but the titanium grey and moderation with the gold really does it for me. Not in a place where I could buy one, but very excited to see what you have to say about it!
I, kinda prefer the stainless one lookswise, but this is how its done for limiteds
Bulova was my gateway brand to collecting watches. Bravo for this special edition.
I just got this watch and boy do I feel special. I'm just sitting here with a cup of tea admiring the damn thing lol I'm even obsessed with the coin and the box 😅 there's a little surprise underneath the lid of the box when you open it but I'll leave that between me and other owners. I'm so happy 😅😁
Do you still ha e it and how do you feel about it now did it go up in value?
@brucelee9941 yes I still have it. I treat it like treasure lol
Bulova is the brand that got me away from wearing Fossil watches in the 2000s. I've been waiting for then someone of significance. This news warms my heart
Yeah i knew Bulova was going to be my first Big boy watch that's not fossil i just didn't expect this watch to be the one. But hey I'm happy i made the purchase
It looks awesome, love the titanium but I will keep complaining about the 45mm diameter and 52mm lug to lug
45 is a bit too big, for me anyway. But if you had the wrist for it, it's really, really nice. As a friend of mine likes to say to me, "If I had YOUR money I'd buy it." If I had HIS, and a bigger wrist, I'd buy one of these.
Bulova: If you're reading this, why not do a 39 or 40mm version?
I would love the irony if, somehow, by, say, the mid 21st Century, it came down to the high end and low end being dominated again by Bulova and Timex, respectively.
Bulova: Cast your net for an engineer that can, say, significantly improve the spring drive concept. When I was a kid, and the Accutron came out, owning one was like a DREAM to me. Think you can do something like that again?
Timex: Make a watch that is literally bullet proof. Okay, just kidding there, but, what I'd like to see is Timex come up with, is a shock resistant-as-hell, easy-to-read, WR to 300meters, ABC watch, that also has tides, moon phase, world time, stop watch, etc., and solar powered and set by the Naval Atomic Clock. Casio made an excellent--best watch I ever owned, really--watch that did all these things, but for some incomprehensible reason they quit making it several years ago. C'mon, TIMEX! You can DO this!
Absolutely agree. I’ve owned and sold the stainless steel version. I could cope with the 45mm (I’ve had G-shocks and ProTreks that are the same if not bigger) but it’s the very flat case and lugs and really long lug to lug which meant I sold it on. Such a shame, and that Bulova hasn’t taken notice of all the social media comments regarding this and done a slight redesign for this 50th anniversary edition.
@@TheRealDrJoey A 39mm watch… For your wife or girlfriend?
@@RamxesArcangel Well, I didn't want to say anything, but it's for YOUR wife.
That is a beautiful Bulova special edition I'd definitely would love to have it so I can add with my leather nato strap
Mines turning up tomorrow!!! I simply can't wait, its gorgeous!! I've wanted a lunar pilot for ages but thus one made me do it (it's a no brained and I love it) Even the box is decent with the coin. Just wow, I'm so happy!!!
I was hoping for an automatic version
Would have paid good money for that
@@antonhallergren588 Agree totally!
I love the Lunar Pilot, I own one, and in this oportunity agree 100% with you, the limited edition hype must be limited, and this watch it's a perfect example of how to make it special
Looks good,I'd still prefer the original design,and wish they'd do a 39 or 40🤷🏻♂️
I got one for retail and the prices are very close to retail. Not bad. Considering what it is, I'm happy it will likely hold its value at very least
I agree, Jory. Like you, I have always wanted a Lunar Pilot (my son has the stainless version) and I was planning on buying the PVD version, which I like; but it did not really have that “moon connection” for me. The short of it is that I was able to buy the titanium one on a Christmas sale here in Canada this week and did not hesitate for a second. It is even more stunning in reality.
The Lunar pilot 50 limited is very vintage with the features gold! I like it a lot!
I put in my order a month ago and my delivery date is expected to be next two weeks according to my dealer! Once I have have it, I will be happy to share pics of all 3 side by side for the group to decide which they want to get .
This lands well.
I'm in two minds about the two-tone. Nice looking but moves away from the typical look of this line. (That said, if you're going to make one stand out then your 50th anniversary is a good time to do that!)
I love this watch…I agree that this is how you should do special editions. I don’t know that scalpers will be in though, 1k feels (to me) like that’s all the market will bear. But then again I’m probably wrong
Just purchased mine today!!! Awesome and great looking watch!!!!
I love Bulova and own a few watches including the reissued black and red devil diver and some bracelets and necklace.I think that lunar pilot is awesome!!! Get one lol
I just bought the Boulova 41mm Devil Diver Bright Orange 🍊 love it .
@@juniorjohnson5961 very nice buddy! 👍
Ordered mine after watching your video. Bulova will start shipping 10/8/21.
I'd have to say it's a bargain at the price. This is an extremely excellent watch.
Way overpriced.
I have both of the non-date versions and just ordered this as this too is non-date so belongs to the collection. The price is great for titanium LE.
Just ordered mine. Excited for this one.
I ordered mine the day they announced it. I've already got the standard (non-bracelet) Lunar Pilot, but couldn't pass this one up.
Any links bud, can't find one anywhere to purchase.. Tia.
Bulova is an incredibly underated watch
I think it's safe from scalpers. I'm a proud owner of the dark side version of this watch. I got it on Black Friday in 2019 at Kohls for $200, then bought Chronissimo 20mm leather straps to make it look 22mm. This is a rare time where it pays to have a 8.75" wrist. It fits me perfectly, even though I wear 40mm no problem.
From the titanium to touch of gold which I like, this is worth every penny of $1000. My dark side is the most accurate watch in my collection. No servicing costs or manual winding, or changing dates. Just grab and go.
The Omega version is like 14Gs rn, so there's that. Needless to say, I just pulled the trigger today.
Picked one up the day it was released.
Looking forward to it
Did they fix the band/bracelet lug holes mismatch? If not it was a huge missed opportunity.
Love the watch.. not sure on the quartz movement @ that price point.. Rather have a Flieger with a Swiss movement.. But are we seeing a comeback for upscale Quartz? Demand for upmarket watches in general is through the roof.. so that does make sense..
Great looking kettle
a special edition that is actually special. Nice!
Any suggestions on where to send/take a 1968 Bulova Accutron in 14k to get refurbished?
Could you please add a link to the watch in question to your long list of links in the description of each video? Thanks, and keep up the great content!
Great watch!
I have the bead blasted stainless steel version. It's a tank of a watch but I love it. I did change the leather strap it came with to something more befitting and it shot the already good looks over the moon.
This new version looks incredible. Is there room for another Lunar Pilot in my collection? And in my budget?
I just watched your review in order to decide if to order…😁. The only small thing is that I prefer automatic movements. And yes I understand this quartz is way more accurate😉
Looks like the tudor chrono. Very nice
I just preordered it. Thanks to you.
I have the stainless steel version of the lunar pilot and I love it.
I have the black PVD version and wear it on a black bund strap which looks much more substantial than a normal 20mm strap.
I have both the stainless steel on the bracelet and the black PVD on a nato.
I love them both and they look fantastic on my 7.25 inch wrist, I do miss not having the date complication on the black one but i forgive it as it's the closest thing I'll ever get to a Porche Design Orfina.
There is a 3rd variant which is a polished stainless steel with no date and different brand font which is nice and now this 4th variant, it's very nice and I do like it....hmmm will see.
Bulova is a brand that kind of flys under the radar and I like that plus they offer great value for money, even the wife has a dress watch from them and loved it the moment she saw it.
can't wait to order this beauty.
I pre-ordered mine two weeks ago for $1.295 CAD. Delivery date on or after October 8th.
I have 4 Bulovas with this movement, including a Lunar Pilot. My 96B231 (Military Chronograph) is sized better for my 7.25” wrist. 43mm diam., 49mm LTL (w/slightly turned down lugs) and 12.0mm thickness. If my Lunar Pilot were a little smaller, I would probably wear it more often. It is my most accurate (non-externally controlled) watch at a measured +6 seconds per year. My other Bulovas with this movement are a more typical +20 seconds per year (measured). The thing that I prefer on my older automatic and quartz Bulova (Swiss Made) chronographs are the 30 minute stopwatch sub-dials with a jumping minute hand. 60 minute sub-dials are just too hard for old eyes to read.
Great video. I was lucky enough to acquire one barely used. Great watch but the hands are darkly edged and not quite as viewable as the standard model with white hands.
Like you I do plan on it having a Bulova lunar pilot....
And this does make it harder I'm leaning toward the stainless with that white NASA special NATO
Got my deposit down for one. Can't wait to get my hands on it.
Great looking watch
I definitely prefer the standard versions, titanium is just too lightweight and too scratch prone. My one titanium diver a Seiko with diashield hardened coating got a big scratch from an ocean floor rock the very first time I used it diving, and another one from coral. So stainless steel 316L is the best option for a diver, (pvd doesn't look good for too long either). Finally the price, no quartz is worth a thousand dollars. For materials cost you could add about $40 for the titanium case as it's more expensive but a decorated caseback shouldn't cost $400. İt's a cash grab taking advantage of nostalgia.
It's more the cost of machining titanium that makes it expensive than the actual material but I have to concur that it's not worth the money, for a quartz anyway!
Totally agree with you Time Teller a great watch . I have the special edition with leather and nato straps and I love it. I really don't mind the size it's a cool piece of space history and holds it's own in quality and good looks at a fair price range.
Where we can buy?
The combination is nice but its just a big watch
Got mine ordered and waiting for the Canadian release. Love the watch, have the bracelet and the strap versions in stainless and I generally skip special editions. Having said that I love the fit of this watch on my wrist and the accuracy is incredible. Looking forward to a titanium version, feel really lucky that I got one, only a hundred coming into Canada and I really didn’t want to buy grey market. It pays to have an AD and a good relationship with them.
I would very much like the stainless version, but I read somewhere that it's a very big watch, lug to lug is like 52-55 mm, is that true ???
@@larsstougaard7097 well it’s a 52 mm. It’s not for a 6.5” wrist for sure
@@wayneturner1336 My wrist is 6.5 😢😄, but plenty other watches to buy, but really like this one. Enjoy ✌
@@larsstougaard7097 I actually wish I had smaller wrists, I like what I see in the 38mm and lower range and there so many options. The trend to enormous watches was kind of silly and I’m glad to see it passing, I have an 8” wrist and it’s pretty limiting. Much rather a 6.5-7” but I’m not sure if there’s a weight loss program for wrists? (Is there? A wrist watchers program maybe?)Count yourself fortunate, you have so many options, especially with vintage pieces etc.
Cheers man! Maybe they’ll come out with a 40mm mechanical like everyone has been speculating about for the past two years.
@@wayneturner1336 thanks for sharing 👍, so you are on the other end of the spectrum 💪😁. Well I have had vintage watches at 35mm and they feels too small for me even. I like companies like Oris that offers like 3 sizes of the same model like 38, 41 and 43mm. I also think Omega and certina has a few models that do that, but yes you need to look out for the dimensions. That said sometimes a watch can look smaller or larger on the wrist, my 42mm citizen diver looks smaller than my Seiko 42 mm diver. I just bought a Dan Henry 1970 automatic at 40mm, but because it has no bezel it looks as large/small as my Citizen and Seiko.
Hey, Jory, thanks for this recommendation, I am eagerly waiting for meeting the scalpers of the seconds hand market! Ha-ha.
Just ws notified now being shipped
Thanks for your great review😁😁😁 I felt in love with this watch but for me price is a bit too high. Around 600 to 700 would be fair in my opinion. But congrats to your new watch. Looks really nice😎 All the best from Germany 😁😁😁
I’ve got the stainless steel version & yeah I wouldn’t mind adding this to my chrono collection. Good luck Jory!
I like it, but i wil go for the normal stainless steel model.
Being a L.E pricing bis very good. Loved it.
What movement is in it?
Love this new design, loved the original stainless steel one as well. But I’ve bought and sold it on. I could live with the 45mm case, but I couldn’t live with how flat it sat on wrist, and the long lug to lug which don’t really curve down that much. I was praying for a 50th anniversary with a slight redesign of the lug shape and length. Alas, I won’t be looking to get this one 😢
They could have given us 100m water resistance for almost 1,000 bucks.
A mechanical lunar pilot would have been great
Had the first version, too big, sold it on. Nice watch thou. 👍🏴
I really like the lunar pilot, unfortunately it is just too big for my wrist. I am planning on picking up the new speedy pro whenever I have the money set aside for it
Great video
Cool, it makes sense to be two-tone for special edition, else it will be too colourless. c",)
How do you feel about the new accutron watches. Omega has way too many variations of the Speedmaster its been done to death. I do love the vintage Omega seamaster chronograph with the cushion cases. I love of Omega brought it back that style along with the current SM
limited edition of 5000. I don't think many people would consider that limited, that more like a normal run.
It does look good
I wish they put a mechanical movement in this, I would of paid $1500 for it no questions asked. I bought this one for $900 on a car forum NIB.
Yeah cool watch bud!
Love this one 😍😍
I want to buy this watch!
I would still like to see a high end automatic movement or manual wind to match the original.
They can't. That would raise the price too much, and people aren't going to spend over $1 for a Bulova (Not including Accutron).
Beautiful watch!!
If it were a 39mm or smaller I'd buy it.
I'd pick that watch over the Speedmaster . Yes , I know the resale value and all that shit but I don't buy watches to sell them later or objects that I don't intent to wear .... and on top of that , I love quartz .
Saw 999 likes, gave the 1000th like. Very informative video.
Ooo hadn't seen that!! Yes, I'll probably get one, but not at over inflated price from a scumbag scalper. Thanks Jory 👍🏻👍🏻
But agree I reckon scalpers will ruin it like and drive the price up like most of the desirable watches at momment.
Beautiful, but unless you’re a giant, it’s going to look massive on your wrist
I have one on preorder
Just when I found second hand all stainless steel model for 450$ this beauty comes out. I better start saving for this model.
Bulova should scale the size down
If you had 1000bucks to drop what watch would you buy?
All due respect. Omega 1538 quartz is a really good movement. Some say Grand Seiko 9F is even better. Bulova/Citizen quartz movement...not my hard-earned money, no chance.
I have no doubt that this watch will be selling on eBay for considerably more once they’re sold out, sucks but it’s the nature of the business and some boneheaded will buy it.
No it won't
I really want this watch but it’s to big for my wrist. If anyone has one on a 6 inch wrist tell me how it’s wears
Already sold out in Australia
Sad
Had the no date stainless one. Cool looking but way, way too big. Great quality, precise, well constructed...but just too big on my rather large wrist. Sold it on Chrono for more than I paid.
Wish it was automatic I would pay more for it
Still waiting for the smaller size
Grade 5 titanium is harder than stainless steel, scratch resistant
I wish the lunar pilot looked good on my wrist, love to look at it but for some reason it wears clunky on me. I'm having that mental debate because I love the color way of this special edition but should know better than to buy it, haha.
was like meh some gold and it's double the price WTF? Then you said it's Ti and I'm like ohhhhhhhhh Ok yea I'm on board
The flat bottom of the lunar pilot had been the bone of contention for a very long time yet bulova never listened.
My lunar pilot is going up for sale and no more bulova for me. You guys can vote with your wallet too. Notice lower case on their names.
Can you confirm its grade 5 titanium? and not the crappy grade 2?
The problem with this one is the golden case back will just fade and look terrible in a couple of years. So it's a watch you can't really wear a lot.
I'm not for sure about it being a quartz watch and spending the money on it.
Yeah, wouldn’t want the watch to be too accurate
