A Rare Wild Turkey in Midtown Manhattan 🦃🏙️

- A female Wild Turkey (Meleagris gallopavo) was spotted May 7, 2024, in front of an office building on 49th street in a very busy area of midtown Manhattan. Today May 8, she was still in the same area.
Une femelle active Dindon sauvage (Meleagris gallopavo) a été repérée hier, le 7 mai 2024, devant un immeuble de bureaux dans le centre de Manhattan.
Aujourd'hui, elle était toujours dans le même quartier. Beaucoup de gens ont été très surpris de voir un dindon sauvage dans le centre-ville (même les New-Yorkais). Elle lissait ses belles plumes et buvait dans les flaques d’eau de pluie. L'une des personnes qui regardaient a partagé ses myrtilles avec la dinde. En espérant que ce dindon sauvage continue son voyage en toute sécurité.

Een actieve vrouwelijke wilde kalkoen (Meleagris gallopavo) werd gisteren op 7 mei 2024 gespot voor een kantoorgebouw in het centrum van Manhattan. Vandaag was ze nog steeds in hetzelfde gebied. Veel mensen waren zeer verrast toen ze een wilde kalkoen in de binnenstad zagen (zelfs New Yorkers). Ze streek haar prachtige veren glad en dronk uit regenwaterplassen. Een van de mensen die toekeken deelde haar bosbessen met de kalkoen. Hopend op een voortgaande veilige reis voor dit Wilde Kalkoen.
Ein aktiver weiblicher wilder Truthahn (Meleagris gallopavo) wurde gestern, am 7. Mai 2024, vor einem Bürogebäude in Midtown Manhattan gesichtet.
Heute war sie immer noch in der gleichen Gegend. Viele Menschen (sogar New Yorker) waren sehr überrascht, einen wilden Truthahn in der Innenstadt zu sehen. Sie putzte ihr wunderschönes Gefieder und trank aus Regenwasserpfützen. Eine der Zuschauerinnen teilte ihre Blaubeeren mit dem Truthahn. Ich hoffe auf eine weiterhin sichere Reise für diesen wilden Truthahn.

Ayer, 7 de mayo de 2024, se vio una hembra activa de pavo salvaje (Meleagris gallopavo) frente a un edificio de oficinas en el centro de Manhattan. Hoy ella todavía estaba en la misma zona. Mucha gente quedó muy sorprendida al ver un pavo salvaje en el centro (incluso los neoyorquinos). Se acicaló sus hermosas plumas y bebió de los charcos de agua de lluvia. Una de las personas que miraban compartió sus bayas con el pavo. Esperando que este pavo salvaje continúe en un viaje seguro.

What an incredible plumage! If she's looking for a partner, this might not be the right place. Or maybe she's escaped from some day-trip group tour. We all think as New Yorkers, nothing shocks us but... this Wild Turkey caused a lot of people to stop and stare. Someone asked me if the turkey was a prop - meaning I think, that it was placed there for some entertainment reason. I told him no - it is a wild bird that for whatever reason decided to stop in midtown. Hope she makes it safely out!. Best regards, Cathy
@@quote_nature I really thought it was a male by his back plumage, but I fear this turkey well being. It's so unnatural as a location; it almost does seem it was placed there....how else ? The behavior of wildlife like this is remarkable. It seems unbothered by ppl!

Wow, how interesting! Who would have thought that we could find wild turkeys in the middle of the bright city of Manhattan. Their presence adds a natural feel in the midst of the urban hustle and bustle. May they remain safe and protected in their new habitat.

The middle of the city is quite an unusual place to see a wild turkey, in Australia we get the brush turkeys.

I once saw a wild turkey in Central Park, they do sometimes stop in their travels in other areas of the city but not in midtown Manhattan. It was a big surprise. She was Brenda. I had seen a WT once before foraging in the grass in Central Park. It was great to watch this turkey eating blueberries and checking out the planter but concerning to see her by these tall office buildings. So you really don't see this very often say and certainly not in the city. Fortunately the animal was left alone, but it was also sweet that they gave berries to the turkey. I had read about ths turley on a internet paper.The Wild Bird Fund is aware of the bird and intends to capture and relocate it to a safer location.There is speculation that this is the same wild turkey chicken seen recently in Astoria. You made a beautiful video of this turkey. 👍
Thank you very much for watching and your research into the turkey. It was not rescued but appears to have settled recently on Roosevelt Island - a small island east of Manhattan. This turkey seems to adapt well and hopefully will find a safe and appropriate habitat and also other turkeys in the future. Best regards, Cathy
