Curious Cute Baby Red-tailed Hawks. One Fledged!

- 3 Red-tailed Hawk nestlings (Buteo jamaicensis) watch the city streets below their nest and the birds flying above. One of the chicks fledged on May 28, leaving the nest and flying across the street to the top of a tree in Central Park.
Trois poussins de Buse à queue rousse (Buteo jamaicensis) observent les rues de la ville sous leur nid et les oiseaux qui volent au-dessus. L'un des oisillons a pris son envol le 28 mai, quittant le nid et volant de l'autre côté de la rue jusqu'au sommet d'un arbre de Central Park.

Tres polluelos de halcón de cola roja (Buteo jamaicensis) observan la calle de la ciudad debajo de su nido y los pájaros que vuelan sobre ellos. El 28 de mayo, uno de los polluelos voló, abandonó el nido, voló al otro lado de la calle y aterrizó en un árbol en Central Park.

Lovely video Cathy. I like the way you give an impression of the spot where they are growing up with all the traffic and hustle and bustle of a big city. And I imagine everyone looking in amazement at that woman who comes back every day with her camera to film something that 99% of people don't even see.
Haha... Yes, some people do stop to ask why my camera is pointed at the building and I explain I am filming a hawk nest and not peering into someone's window (sometimes I think they're disappointed it's not a celebrity instead of baby hawks). 😉Best regards, Cathy

Oh Cathy I had tears of joy watching them. Such a special gift you shared with us all. Awww the baby flew all alone. I always wonder how birds of prey teach their young to hunt. These city slickers are just about ready to make their first flight into the world of the Big Apple. One has already made the leap into a city park's tree, if very windy. Wonderful update Cathy😍the young hawks are growing very fast. Good to see that one of them already has safely reached the tree in the Central park away from the busy street. The others will soon follow his example and keep their fingers crossed, but that they will also arrive safely in the park.

It was lovely to see the young hawks again and I'm very glad to see that they are able to fledge successfully. It really is amazing how they are able to raise young in such a busy area, but I guess it gives them lots to look at. Loved seeing the three siblings tracking the movement of something out on the street - it was like those cute kitten videos! Great footage & story.

I like how all three of them watch something passing by with interest. Must be a pigeon flying by. It is wonderful how some wild animals adapt to the spread of humans👍
Yes, the 3 in sync was a favorite moment for me too and you're probably right about it being a pigeon (we have so many in the park). It must be the availability of food for the hawks that keep them in this crowded city full of too many people, too much noise, light and tall buildings... or maybe like me, they were born here and find it hard to move as they age ;)
