    Took my first deer this year in my Waldrop PacSeat. The seat was leaning against a large Sycamore tree and I made my shot on a good sized (small rack) buck at 90 yards with my muzzleloader. Totally love this seat. Mine however, does not allow for the seat to swing to the back. Must be a slight change after buying mine.

    Jason, I just knew your reason had to do with videography, especially knowing you limit your shots to 20 yds. I killed a good buck on some local public with my 308 Win Sunday afternoon. I have a great little one-legged hunting stool that I use by a tree, but if I’d toted in my Alpz Commander lite packed with all I needed to “process” in the woods I’d saved the long trip back to my truck for my cart and back, and it wouldn’t have been near as late a night! AND we would’ve gotten back out in the woods earlier yesterday morning. So great video to reinforce what I was already thinking! THANK YOU!

    Killed my first deer walking around and sitting against trees on public land. Mustve walked 15 -20 miles from sep to mid october. Probably gonna stop using stands all together. Have shot a few deer off the ground but it is nothing like tree stand hunting. If you are in a tree and animals come close you don't want to shoot, they never know you are there. On the ground, you may get a shot, but more than likely, you will get busted majority of the time. Also in a tree, if you get an occasional wind flip or swirl, the height may be enough to make it have negligible impact, but on the ground, you are probably screwed. Thanks for sharing. Chair looks interesting.

    I use a seat of a old lone wolf hand climber. Keep it low towards the ground but still comfy. I normally stand the first two hours of the day or the last two hours of the day. Lots of tricks to the ground gig and a hell of a adrenaline rush having deer withn yards of you unalarmed to your presence. You have to be focused 100 percent. No phone, very little eating, drinking water etc. I always try to have a '' Draw'' tree in front of me so I can draw my bow without getting busted.

    Jason, I don’t use a Waldrop but I use a turkey seat. I like the lower profile. Takes practice to shoot a recurve from a turkey seat but it’s very doable with a slight cant. I also use camo and a ghillie. I had a mature doe walk within 7 yards this past season, no clue I was there. Ground hunting is the only way I hunt. Very successful at it. Having a draw tree or two is critical. Tree hunting is too much of a hassle and makes it feel like a job. I’d like to see how you do without camo or ghillie. I know your style is wearing everyday clothes. Never tried it. Curious if it would work. Thanks for the video!

    • @SamkoTradBow
      @SamkoTradBow  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yep nothing as rewarding as killing a deer from the ground. I have killed 10 deer from the ground. some by spot and stalk and some because a tree would not work good in a spot. Not one of those deer were killed with camo on. I was wearing the same clothes i hunt in every day. including one that I stalked in crunchy leaves with my pack stand and sticks on my back and a blue solid tee shirt and no hat with my bald head glowing. granted it was only a spike. but i stayed with him for over an hour to close the distance while he ate acorns and I got to 17 yards before I shot him. I spotted him while on the way to a tree I was going to hunt. so when I do hunt from teh ground I will probably be wearing the same stuff I do as I hunt now. would a ghille help, for sure! But i dont think the difference is that big. I may find out im wrong, but wont know until I try.

Ground hunting can work if you just know how to set it up. Nice video Jason! Check out some ground blind options that are easy to set up. And by the way, I agree with you it's so easy to get busted from the ground and it's much harder to self film. Check out my latest shotgun harvest from the ground. For years I hunted off the ground almost exclusively, it's extremely convenient and I killed a lot of deer.
    I still sit on the ground in some situations. This season one of my best hunts was standing next to a powerline tower in the wide open. Passed a nice 8 at 12 yards and saw several other bucks in range.
    However, the last decade or so, I use stands most of the time again. I would rather be 6' off the ground with one stick than sitting on the ground in most cases. Visibility is just so much better and it can open up shots that are impossible on the ground.

    • @SamkoTradBow
      @SamkoTradBow  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    Seeing further and getting away with more movement is 2 advantages technically. Now as far as scent, I believe there is a definite advantage to being up in the air. If you break wind up in a tree I probably will not hear it or smell it if I am 10 to 20 yards from your tree. Now if I am 10 yards from and you are in your lawn chair....I probably will hear it and smell it. 😂

    • @SamkoTradBow
      @SamkoTradBow  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Could be true. But I do find that on the ground the wind is often much more consistent. When I hunt all these hogs on foot the wind is much more predictable and steady.

    Use a clamp bracket for your phone and attach it to your chair. I use a selfie stick/tripod and sit on ground all the time. I would think a couple quick mods to seat and you can make a custom bracket to attach to chair too. Jeff Doyle made one for his back packs for tracking in New England. Would imagine something could be made for that chair.

    • @SamkoTradBow
      @SamkoTradBow  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Probably could and I bet after some experimenting it could be doable. But no doubt the quality of and amount of animal footage would be much less on the ground than from a tree.

      @@SamkoTradBow ya I totally get that. A friend of mine had a TH-cam channel and we had a tv show 15yrs ago and I understand completely. I like TH-cam stuff much better as you just answer to yourself. We shoot most if not all our stuff on cell cams and man is that a relief. Also it allows us to do things like us super light clamp mounts and custom make things for simple filming. Up here in Northeast Gun hunting is the rule so we hunt a ton by tracking, still hunting and sitting randomly as we move through woods. This is not conducive to filming so getting creative is necessity. Our gun up here is over in ME and now we have 2weeks left in NH bow so same tactics will be employed while using bow. Have you looked into a 360 camera? You could place one above yourself on a tripod. Use a remote to turn it on and start recording, and maybe use b-roll for a little fill in and use it for occasional videos so you can get a little bit of it still. And as far as the No camo thing on the ground, I don’t mess with it other than stuff I already have that’s camo like old jackets I still use, and I don’t use it most of the time. And I’ve been fine without it with deer close too. I think grey colors do seem to help when getting away with movement on the ground though. But that could be me..

    • @SamkoTradBow

Yep I've killed 10 deer from the ground in my normal every day clothes that I hunt in. Including one deer I stalked in a solid blue tee shirt with my pack stand and sticks on my back. Is it supposed to do that? Also I noticed a hot spot on the inside of my thighs where longtime sitting might become annoying I don’t know just interested in your thoughts. Overall seat is best out there and my goal in 24 is to kill a deer from the ground but was just wondering about those two things thanks

      My seat bar moves towards me some when I sit down too. I believe it's supposed to as your butt drops in to the seat. I have not adjusted my mesh. I have not experienced any hot spots or pressure points but I bet that is all relevant to different leg lengths, heights etc. But could put a foam pipe insulator on those spots. I also know some people like a faom seat pad on this chair for all days sits.

      Probably but that qould not have the same effect of being able to zoom in and film deer. It's much more than just getting a kill shot. My payreon hunting vids are full length hunts with all kinds of detail. But I'm still going to do some ground hunts each year including this late season.

    I have always been confused: Why do you not hunt from ground even though your hunting skills are so good? It turns out that this is the reason. Yes, if you are recording video while hunting from ground, you will have to hire a photographer, which will cost a lot of money.

      Yep Filming from the ground is much harder. and you get less footage as the deer are right on top of you before you see them. From a tree I can see them coming from much further and film alot more.
