I have a 13 year old son with autism that loves super smash brothers and spent an entire day watching videos on that game being emulated through Dolphin, an application I am not familiar with. I have modded games for him on PC, I use emulators myself for my PS2 games and N64 games but I could not figure out how to set up my controller within Dolphin. Needless to say we had a very rough bit the other night when I told him we would have to wait. I just wanted to say thank you so much for this video because you just saved me a lot of time and trouble and he is going to be so thrilled when I tell him I got it set up. So, thank you so very much.

Believe it or not I had been trying to play this emulator for a long while. Granted I got the roms and emulator figured it out back then. However, it all started back in 2016. I gave up on the controller settings. I never could figure it out until today. My point is I wish I could have found you sooner. I never got to play certain games because how days some of the Wii gems are rare, or extremely expensive. Until now? Boom!! Finally got to play the games I always wanted to play. Hey, I’m having trouble connecting my xbox series 2 controller, the dolphin emulator menu is updated and when i connect my controller it tells me its keyboard/0/xbox elite wireless controller. I have another regular controller with Bluetooth and it says input/0/xbox wireless controller and works fine, can you tell me how to change my series 2 controller from keyboard to input cause i a really want to play 2 player.
It Depends on the game and if you need them then you have to create multiple profiles. I went through this on my Super Mario Galaxy Guide. This is just a basic setup to play most games. But Wiimotes have so many different functions that not all games use. Tilt and Swing are more important in motion based games
Yes you do need those for Mario Party 9 for example which is a pretty common game. Whats confusing about configuring the gamepad for it is that is tells you repeatedly to change the Nunchuk's direction every mini-game, could be vertical or could be horizontal. Which is why Dolphin devs provided us with the luxury of being able to toggle between sideways mode and vertical mode with just one click midgame! (i usually set it to Button 13, clicking on the Axis analog) Also, you will have to create another profile for it because if you configure Tilt and Swing in your axis analog sticks, youd have to sacrifice some other buttons. Which means, that configuration doesnt apply to other games. On the long run, you will learn how to adjust and adapt yourself to different games by choosing different profiles.
Go to Emulation > Frame Skipping > and change it to 0, if it is already 0 go in Options > Configure > Speed Limit > and change it to 100% (Normal Speed)
When I start it up, it says, "Connect the Wii Remote and Nunchuck to the Wii MotionPlus accessory." Game won't start. Trying to play Skyward Sword btw. Edit: Looks like I might need to patch dolphin to emulate MotionPlus.

8:20 OMG I feel stupid, major brainfart!! I was struggling getting the xbox-controller working for Harvest Moon. It uses the nunchuk for movement. Of course I need to activate that one in the separate tab, doh... but now it works fine and I dont need to wait for my friend to send me a real wiimote :D THX!!

Ok so I have a question, it doesn’t let me use my Xbox controller to input controls when I’m on Xinput/0/Gamepad. It does let me do it for Xinput/1/Gamepad though but it still doesn’t change the controls for me in game :( i have no clue what I’m supposed to do can someone help me please !

i found the default setting of vertical offset at motion simulation point tab to be 10 cm. it prevent me to reach the top screen. so i change it to zero.

exactly. I map GC X to Xbox B, GC Y to XBox Y, GC A to Xbox A, GC B to Xbox X. maybe this looks confusing but there is solution. you can write the setting to paper and put it on table. so you can see that paper instead of actual xbox controller button

It's the same. Go into the options on Spiderman 2. Use the Right Trigger to go to the controller options and you can choose to change the controller inversion.

I have this game: "Tak and the Power of Juju" its use Z+dpad to shows collectibles sub menu, how assign it to "back" button on xbox controller? How i can using combination of gamecube controller buttons to one xbox button? For now i just choose "back" to Z and dpad down, but this override my dpad and i cant use them to control charakter, it's ok becausei use analog stick but in menu for example it isn't right to use stick instead dpad. Is there is a way to assign combination of gamecube controller to one xbox button, and that combination only?
Because there's at least 10 different types of controllers and attachments you can emulate. And there's not one universally accepted mapping in the community. Some people use X for the B button and some people use B for B. Some people switch the X and Y. It really depends if you follow the Nintendo layout or the Xbox Layout. The program itself is always being developed by the community. If you want to take a crack at programing and coding auto mapping in. There's nothing stopping you from helping develop a program that you get for free.
@@TwinCherryStudio That's no excuse. 70% of controllers used on PC are Xbox, from Steam surveys. Most games have a default configuration for an Xbox controller out of the box.

Join the development team and implement it. There's a lot more pressing things in the development than auto mapping. They'll get to it when they can.

I'm using a standard wired Xbox360 controller on a mac. Gamecube works fine but whenever I try and run a Wii game, I get two popups every time I push a button. Wii remote 1 connected and Wii remote 1 disconnected by emulator. But the input isn't read so I can't even get past the startup screens. The only game I got it working for is Smash which can technically run a gamecube controller so that's probably why. Dolphin, you are the only emulator giving me issues.

This didn't really help me at all, because Super Mario Galaxy is extremely difficult to setup motion controls for. It's hyper sensitive and almost impossible to be accurate. I wish you would've gone more in-depth into the motion controls
I've looked into it and I can't really find a solution at the moment. There are no sensitivity options in the motion section. I'll ask around on the dolphin forums.
@@TwinCherryStudio I figured out a solution to it, because apparently it was caused by the Swing motion. I removed the buttons from it and then everything worked perfectly

I'm having a similar issue. all my pads work in the config but not when i launch any games. It appears to default to my keyboard and mouse even when i set it to the pads in port one of course.
Ok, couple of troubleshooting things to try. 1. Makes sure it is the xInput in the device box. and click refresh. DInput is the KBM 2. there's a box in the corner that says always connected. that might help 3. Make sure the folder DOCUMENTS/Dolphin Emulator isn't read only. right click the folder click properties and make sure the read only bit isn't checked. That's all I can think of. let me know if this helps. If not I'll have a look into it a bit more
@@inkboi215 ok so, check permissions on that folder or delete in and reinstall dolphin. be careful to back up your save games. open Dolphin installer as admin.
My controller isnt even reacting to anything, i connect the controller and it appears in the top left, i select it and when i try to change the keybinds nothing happens, the joystickes wont move either when i calibrate it

I've been playing Batman Begins gc edition on dolphin and the game just randomly speeds up the gameplay a little help, please.

Motion plus is very tricky. I just use a wiimote for Skyward Sword

you can make a new folder and call it profiles. also check the config settings to find where your profiles save

this did not work for me for some reason. i know my controller works fine because i use it on my ps2 emulator and other emulators, but i cant get it to work on my dolphin

I'm using a standard wired Xbox360 controller on a mac. Gamecube works fine but whenever I try and run a Wii game, I get two popups every time I push a button.
Wii remote 1 connected and
Wii remote 1 disconnected by emulator.
But the input isn't read so I can't even get past the startup screens. The only game I got it working for is Smash which can technically run a gamecube controller so that's probably why. Dolphin, you are the only emulator giving me issues.
Any idea how to fix my settings, the problem is my analog sticks on my switch pro controller arent being detected on dolphin. Evry other button is detected besides the analog stilc amd c stick

This didn't really help me at all, because Super Mario Galaxy is extremely difficult to setup motion controls for. It's hyper sensitive and almost impossible to be accurate. I wish you would've gone more in-depth into the motion controls

I've looked into it and I can't really find a solution at the moment. There are no sensitivity options in the motion section. I'll ask around on the dolphin forums.
@@TwinCherryStudio I figured out a solution to it, because apparently it was caused by the Swing motion. I removed the buttons from it and then everything worked perfectly
Do you know how to fix the error where the controller will not respond to vertical movement i.e left thumb stick not going up? My right thumb stick works but the left one doesn't

@@TwinCherryStudio i have the same problem, and im using a hybrid gamepad compatible with nintedno switch and windows games; i use this controller for project 64 and it works just fine but it only ggets, "Button A"in dolphin can you help me pls

Gamecube doesn't have them. You don't need those buttons for gamecube games

I'm having a similar issue. all my pads work in the config but not when i launch any games. It appears to default to my keyboard and mouse even when i set it to the pads in port one of course.
Ok, couple of troubleshooting things to try.
1. Makes sure it is the xInput in the device box. and click refresh. DInput is the KBM
2. there's a box in the corner that says always connected. that might help
3. Make sure the folder DOCUMENTS/Dolphin Emulator isn't read only. right click the folder click properties and make sure the read only bit isn't checked. That's all I can think of. let me know if this helps. If not I'll have a look into it a bit more

@@inkboi215 ok so, check permissions on that folder or delete in and reinstall dolphin. be careful to back up your save games. open Dolphin installer as admin.

My controller isnt even reacting to anything, i connect the controller and it appears in the top left, i select it and when i try to change the keybinds nothing happens, the joystickes wont move either when i calibrate it
i have a nintendo pro controller and when i try to do wii remote controlls for it it identifies as Dinput instead of Xinput and everything doesnt work any fixes?

@@TwinCherryStudio Sorry, you got me wrong, all the buttons appear, but when I click on them, there is no response and for the flag there are two joysticks. But when I do Wii Remote, all buttons appear, but with one joystick.
