Learn Jazz Standards Series: Stella By Starlight (Victor Young).
In this video we look at how to play Stella by Starlight. Stella by Starlight is one of the most famous jazz standards, and is common at jam sessions all over the world. In this video we break down the structure, harmony and melody to make it easier to learn and remember. We also look at backdoor resolutions from dominant chords, how a melody defines our chord type and a common chord substitution for chord I.

Thanks, Paul, always great content and insight beyond the theory of it all. That insight from experience is valuable and appreciated.

Thank you so much for that clear analysis! It also clarifies many other standards that use those unresolved 2 5 … Thank you!

This is excellent, as are all of your tutorials, and deserves many more views! I wonder if you would consider a tutorial on Tadd Dameron's 'If You Could See Me Now'? I don't believe a tutorial exists on youtube yet and I think it's a fairly popular tune.

Some of why this song is so unusual can be understood in that it was written as a theme song for a ghost movie.
