How to do a tab binding for your journal (easy, fun and very rewarding)

In today's video I'm showing you how to bind your journals with tabs of fabric. It's easy and fun and the results are really rewarding and sturdy, The pages move very freely as well. I hope this inspires you to make your own and enjoy the process. Hugs xx

I've done this with thick doubled sided paper tabs with kids. Like the fabric so much better.

Wow all I can say is thankyou! This is one amazing project. I have wanted to try the tab binding for some time but your envelope journal made me jump up and try straight away. I work with only one hand, other is paralyzed, so sewing in signatures is extremely frustrating! This tab binding is a wonderful solution for me! Thanks a million!!! PS Nova Scotia is my most favourite place on earth!😁

Thank you! This is perfect for a journal that I have been working on sporadically for a couple of years. It has large individual pages. I knew that there would be some way to bind them together but this is the perfect way!! Your instructions are very very good! This could be confusing but your instructions are so clear! I love it! I also love both the stamped fabric and the idea of using multiple different fabrics! So glad that I found you!! You have a new subbie for sure!!💕

I've been working with this type of binding this week and I found that when I'm using envelopes and you fold the 2 together it creates for a nice thicker strip of material in the tabs... You could do it with folded pages as well but it just really gives it a nice full effect of the fabric I just used 2 envelopes and put one into the other so it has a nice fold and use about 6 of those and then do the tab binding and it is so luscious....❣

This is fantastic. I love the way it lays flat to work on. I also watched your envelope one which brought me here. I'm excited to make my granddaughters their own journals handmade by gramma. It's also methodical and I think it will be relaxing. I have so many loose papers and this will be perfect. Thanks for a great tutorial

Dina Wakley makes a neutral color linen tape that is stickey on the back. Amazon sells it and then Tim Holtz has the fabric linen tape. I just found this kind of journal and I love it. I love it lays flat so writing is easy in it for people who love to journal. I am so glad you shared it.

Thank you for sharing. I have used Muslin and stamped on the fabric as well to make my tabs. I also stitched to secure it better to the album.

You can add a paperbag in the journal which I think is nice. There is a lady on TH-cam Bookshop Shelli and she has a video on no sew binding and she shows how to add it when the journal is finished. I thought it was a cool idea.

You could use double sided tape on your fabric strips and make your own fabric tape

I have watched this twice and I still haven't gotten the hang of it.😞 But I'll keep trying because I like the idea of being able to use full sheets of paper with different sizes of papers. Maybe if I had the fabric tape it would be easier?
Hi Penny, I'm sorry to hear you are having difficulties. Yes the tap might help since you won't have to worry about too much glue and waiting for it to dey. It could be a solution. How big can I make a journal....like how many pages? I have read they have to be smaller journals. I need to figure out how to make my separate pages into a journal but its got 3 signatures with 5 pages each. I guess I better find a different manner
