Great effort by city & county. Working together! Volunteers have risen to task of this 100 to 1,000 year flood event. Just think if TVA dams weren't built. My electric power has been out many times today. I am a hydrologist so I know 1,000 yr. flood calculations.
I am hearing that some of the places like Community Center, and Feed My Sheep are getting full. Also, some people just cannot get to certain places due to the travel issues. There is a church on Old Cave that is opening up as a shelter too, and they will have donations!!!! They are right now have tons of water, some food items, they are accepting all clothing and hygeine items, etc. Anyone can take whatever they have there. Even if someone does not show up in need to stay, they are going to make sure people get things they need that lost everything. I am going to take all the clothes and baby items, hygiene items and things like that there that I can find.
If you care so much about the citizens, why split screen with a golf tournament? Safety takes precedent over a stupid golf game and it's not a good look during an update.
The split screen is absolutely disrespectful. Who decided on showing golf while this conference is broadcasting? People are dead, people are starving and need medicine and its disgusting whomever chose to show golf. This isn't disaster duets.
I have visited the Appalachian Mountains several times and it always astounded me that nearly everyone lives on and all towns are built exactly on the flat topography of the flood plains of the rivers which are between two mountain sides. Really, what could go wrong? These flood plains were literally created by innumerable floods of the river over hundreds of thousands, maybe millions of years. I have seen so many mean and nasty comments about people on the coast foolishly building along the coast. Well, this is even dumber.
You obviously do not know what happened here to say all of that. Maybe you visited, but you do not know all the areas. Some of the things this touched are no where near what is considered a flood zone. Yes, I know there are places built in flood zones here, but this went to extremes. We saw things here that have never happened before. This is a historical event. So never been a problem ever before. This went up to hillsides that still went into people's homes and destroyed them. Please do not judge!!!! People build the way they do knowing how things have happened over decades. You heard the one guy hear talking about the history records. This is a historical even that no one saw coming. I cannot believe the places water was. I've talked to old timers that even say they've NEVER saw anything like this EVER!!!! PRAY if you love this place, even if it is to visit. But do not place blame.
