    I started off my skate lifestyle doing lots of downhill and speed skating (San Francisco). And I've also acquired my worst fall ever and some real good road rash. My only regret that day was not using my knee pads. I had practiced bailing at high speeds in a controlled situation but froze up on the real thing. Hit the ledge, superman flew, and road rash all of my forearms, thigh, and back 😭 took 2 months for the open wound to heal and 4-6 months for the nerve damage to heal 😅😅😅 didn't touch a hill for 4 months, have never touched the hill I fell on even though I live on it 😂

    I wondered what it would be like to skate in Galveston. I bet that sidewalk is quite bumpy. What a nice day you had to hit the coast! Stopping has always been my skating crux. I have skated for literally DECADES and I still hesitate with that decision, at times. At least at the rink you can just slam into the sometimes carpeted wall. LOL. Thanks for the tips!

    When you just found Indy a couple days ago and have been obsessively watching her, but then you find out about her closeted racism and you just....... I’ve never skated before and I’m looking to get started because it’s so important to the Black community and seeing all these videos made me feel so included and watching all these different influencers made me feel like there was already a place for me in the skating community because there are so many people who look like me unlike the academic circles that I come from just to feel like I was completely bamboozled. I just feel tricked by people who act like they are so accepting and encouraging but then lack respect for BIPOC. How am I supposed to feel welcome and join a community when some of the biggest influencers in said community don’t have respect for the color of my skin. I still plan on watching her videos and am not gonna cancel her. I just hope she does better and that she is in a better place than she was a few months ago so that she can continue educating to the extent that she has been for years.

      You shouldn't judge anyone...you don't know where they are in life, how they've been hurt and how they can change their opinions and feelings. Indy has featured beautiful women of all colors, sizes and personalities on her channel over the years and doesn't deserve to be labeled by anyone, especially people who don't even know her personally.

      @pinkyh5273 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      i completely agree. i’m so sorry this happened to you and i hope that you can find your own skating community that’s really truly accepting and just genuinely good. it does feel super yucky :/ i came back to look at her channel to see if she’d uploaded since the “apology” video and i feel like there just wasn’t enough of a real apology for me to move on from it. i used to love indy and it’s really awful and it feels like a betrayal in a way. she needs to get her head on straight because black women are the true founders of the skating community.. she needs to know her place in that.

    I’m planning on going to Coney Island by myself next month. Because I’m 12, it took a LOT of convincing my mom. Luckily it only took her two days to make up her mind. The deal is that my worker will take me there first so I known how to get there myself and then I can go back by myself. I’m going to practice my roller skating at a skate park before I can go so I can get used to it. I’m excited. This is the farthest from home I’ve ever gone by myself. I have a plan of what I’m going to do: I’m gonna ride around, go grab some food, maybe go on some rides(if they are open) and when it starts getting dark, I’ll Uber myself home.
