Last December 9th I was looking for something in a stack of model train magazines when I found a 427 Cobra spec sheet that Carroll Shelby had autographed for me 51 years and one day before. He was in Atlanta publicizing his book, The Cobra Story. He talked to me for a long time even though I didn't buy a book. Very graceful.

Awesome video, I did figure out it was a 289 pretty quickly though as it wasn't easy to get around some of these guys. A 427 would've been eating those cars up like chicklets

Watching this makes me miss being part of the great "Group 6" at The Glen.

Blip the throttle when changing down to raise the revs to match the speed of the wheels or you will lock up and spin

I plan to get myself to the Goodwood Revival here in the good old U of K this September. So I can see hear and feel the Cobras there. As well as all the lesser cars. ;¬) Gotta get ma ticket early tho. £56 ($89)!! They sold out last year! 138,000 tickets for the 3 days of the event!

Do you donate your Cobra to the Museum in Colorado to be on display?

No abs, no launch control, no power steering, no air bag. Just music coming from a 289 speaker and cleaning house the old school way

Anyone bring a Snake Bite Kit for a Cobra Bite?

  • @t45tube

@kirkconway Actually the bulk of the Cobra is English. Chassis, suspension, body and interior all made in England by AC. The only American bits are the engine and gearbox. Shelby instigated this combination of a powerful American V8 and lightweight British sports car with the hope it would be a race winner - and he wasn't wrong! If you want to see more Cobras being raced in anger, type 'Goodwood Revival Cobra' into TH-cam's search box. :-)

@t45tube - Give Mr. Shelby a little more credit please - his crew ended up modifying the suspension, chassis and body to get the final desired results. The 427 Cobra was virtually completely different - totally new chassis, body extensively modified as well as more suspension alterations and improvements. You wonderful Brits got the ball rolling for sure, but Shelby and his merry men turned it into the historic racing machine that it ultimately became.

@@Loulovesspeed The chassis design for the 427 was by Ford USA, not by Shelby. Still, it was made in the UK by AC.

@@pashakdescilly7517 - And Toyota, Mercedes and Honda are made in the U.S. - but they certainly are not American cars. By the time Shelby and Ford got done with it, the 427 Cobra was far more of an American car than it was British, regardless of where it was made!

thinking about getting an ERA Replica FIA 289.
Not as ponderous looking as the 427.
black rollbar, front flare's, and med blue like the euro car's in 65.

Kirk Conway did you get the ERA FIA? I have an ERA 427 and I really like that car!
