I played the heck out of this several years ago on hardest (in MAME), used no shurikens to get the 'No Shuriken' Bonus. There were 2 places where I would use magic. 1st place would be at the 1st part of the 3rd Level 7:34, and last Level (before the final boss) around 16:33.
Nicely done! Do you also know that you can jump over the final boss? Just don' t jump on the far right, or you will end up hanging the game, if I remember correctly.

Your pretty good. I tried this game sword only and usually died around the statue of liberty boss.
