This is super cool. Beautiful aircraft, really interesting seeing the various systems on board and how everyone just announces everything they are responsible for. A 3-crew cockpit with full EFIS is akin to how the 767 was originally designed, infact the first 30 or so that came off the production line had an FE station but Ansett was the only one to operate it that way, United and American opted to wait for there's to be converted to the approved 2-crew layout shortly after the launch and deliveries began in '82. To this day that's why even the 767-400 and KC-767s still have that large blank FE station and the size of the 767 cockpit was designed for an FE in mind. There's a cool video here on YT of the 3-crew 767-200 in action. That was a union promise that required Ansett to keep the 3-crew layout basically until they went out of business. In Russia it seems more of a carry over culture of the SU system that everyone has a job, which you only see in the Military in the West. Case in point Air Force 1 flies around even with a 4th crew member in the cockpit, a redundant Navigator station despite being outfitted with upgraded glass and dual FMS. It's sort of the same thing, everyone has a job. Thanks for sharing this VK. The production quality is first rate.
Wow! First time watching a Russian OPS from the cockpit, thanks VW, interesting enough from a western POV on how they fly, just heard everybody yelling, hands flying all over the cockpit, an engineer working hard so the FO looks like he’s just along for the ride etc 🤣
The communist philosophy was to create jobs so that many people would be employed. Flight engineers had been done away with in western built aircraft of that generation like the B744 and MD11. Even earlier models like the B767 and B757 were designed for a two man crew.
woah.. ok the whole cockpit thing freaks me out a little..theres a lot going on there.. but did you see what she did with those napkins??? that was soo cool!!! i have to learn how to do that now!!!
If you compare this Tu-204/Tu-214 do it's Western version the 757 you are going to realize the Western version doesn't have a flight engineer what the Russian equivalent has one. In the cockpit which one of them has the parameters for the engines is it the co-pilot and Captain or the flight engineer
1) Sterile cockpit doesn’t exist in Russia 2) Why does the TU204 have absolutely no column play?! Such a small window of control! 3) Looks stressful as hell but they always looked in control!
Most of the conversations are CRM related. It's more of a soviet style philosophy (including the 3rd "flight engineer") but I bet cubana only uses 2 people and uses more western CRM though I could be wrong. As for the column play I think it has to do with the fly by wire system
@@SpidaMez actually in the US first officers are required to have at least 1500hrs flight time before they're able to work for an airline, while in Russia that number is 150hrs.

Wow, I did not know that. I had always assumed the 747-300s were the last jets to enter service with an engineer's seat.
What a great film. Very pleased the see the CEO take the trouble to do an introduction.

Why would they need a third person just to operate the thrust levers????
Shocking, in every aspect... (the video is great btw. thx)

Three-men cockpit? Why?
This is the early TU-204-100 version, which had the 3 crew cockpit. 👍
Not sure why they need a second officer in a modern aircraft?
in this early TU-204-100 series they used it. Very few like this, later only 2 crew cockpit as usual. 👍

That first officer looks like a nervous wreck. The whole thing seems chaotic and I wonder how this crew would perform in an emergency situation.
That's why there is something called a captain. In the United States and anywhere else the first officer usually has way less experience
