So got mine installed and one of the light sockets doesn't work. Do you think it's a product malfunction? I completed some troubleshooting making sure it's not the bulb. Thoughts?
@@thomasford4716 If the other sockets work then there is something wrong with that one socket and not the wiring. If its not the bulb, the next place I would check is the bottom of the socket and make sure its not bent down too far so that the bulb can make contact with it. If that isn't an issue I would want to check with a multimeter if there is power getting to it to begin with. Sometimes they are just bad and have to exchange for a new one as much as that would stink to do having it installed already.
@@HowToHomeDIY I appreciate the assistance. Ruled all of that out with the trouble shooting except the voltmeter (don't have one). Looks like I'm returning it lol.
You just saved me so much money. Instead of hiring a task rabbit or electrician, you gave me the confidence to be able to do this myself! It was so easy, thanks to you!
We just followed your directions everything went well except it seemed as if the mounting piece wasn’t strong enough to hold the fixture my husband is cutting some 2x4 to see if we can attach plate to the to help hold it up
Thank you! Have hung a number of fixtures but never a rectangular one like this with the two screws. You gave very clear and easy to follow instructions. Again, thank you.
You have no idea how close I was to call and electrician to change the fixtures. I’m not handy at all and decided to give your video a try and follow. Glad I did, it was easy and would have felt stupid forking over all that money to an electrician. Thank you!!
Outstanding video. I have been doing lights for years, and your methodical step by step process really helped me get it down better and right the first time. Thank you!
Adam, great video. I just got one of these fixtures and wasnt sure how it goes up (I dont read Chinese instructions). Your video made it easier and we got great results. Thank you.
Thank you a thousand times for this video. No instructions in the damn hanging chandelier manual talking about the difference in ground and live when they are both connected, that you need to peel them apart.
My luck is never this good in TH-cam repair tutorials: you removed the same style light I was removing and installed the exact same fixture I was installing. So easy to follow along.
Wow! Thank you! You took the mystery out of hanging the box farm house light fixture before I buy one and install it myself. I was worried I'd have to put in some structure to hold the weight, but apparently I can depend on the current chandelier light receptacle to handle the replacement. Whew!
Awesome! You are very welcome. I love this kind of feedback and hearing from folks that they took on something themselves and they are happy with the results! Thank you for the feedback!
Looked at several videos and this one is the best hands down at explaining it all !thank you so much for the explanation of the black wire difference without that it would be a little confusing
Thank you so much !! You gave me confidence to put up 3 light fixtures!! I’m on my 4th light fixture but I’m struggling because this one didn’t come with labels and both wires are clear....
Very helpful and detailed video. I’ve had a light that I’ve wanted replaced for months now but no one is ever available to install. With your video I think my husband & I can actually do it ourselves 🤞🏼We’ll see!!
Thanks for the tutorial, I've installed dimmer switches, but this is my first hanging light fixture. Gonna browse your channel for more stuff to install / fix!
This is a really great video. I've installed a few lights but always had an extra pair of hands. I like the idea of using bins to place the fixture on, great idea. And I wasn't aware of the safety hook, that was good to know too. Thanks for sharing this video, well done!
I'm saving this video to refer to later for when I begin decorating my living room (though I have the added challenge of taking down a ceiling fan...of which I'll also have to put back up when I move out of the apartment. I've seen videos on how to take down the ceiling fan, but your explanation of how to put the new light up is really great and understandable, so thank you!)
I designed that fixture. Thankyou for making such a nice video on that! If anyone's wondering about the manufacturer, it's a product of Kichler Lighting, it's called Barrington Chandelier, 5 light.
ShubhamMishra-ed7mb Until you learn the basics of wiring and start using a black lead to determine line voltage, and a white lead to determine neutral, you have no business designing anything electrical.
Hi Adam! Great tutorial, and easy enough. However, the light fixture I installed will not turn off by flipping the wall switch. The light fixture did replace a ceiling fan, so if there something I need to do differently at the switch or the junction? Thanks!
I bought the same chandelier but white my husband was so worried this would take alot of effort to replace I'm going to surprise him and do it myself thank you so much 😅😊
Just a hint that when hooking up fixture ground wire to green bracket screw, leave about 3 inches after the screw so that you have enough wire to attach to the bare ground wire from the ceiling. Also, black smooth wire is your hot wire, black ridged (or white) is neutral.
Got my kitchen light up with this vid. Now I'm going to tackle the living room and dinning. However, the dinning light is not aligned center with the dinning table. Would the light be secure enough/ strong enough if it's connect to the sheetrock?
@how to home What if the hanging hinge on the roof is not the center of the room but u want the light to be in center of room… how to shift the center of mass ??
Not sure if you are still checking these comments. But what if we need to move the light fixture over about a foot? (Light was initially installed centered for a round table, but we have a rectangular table). Is there a way to do that without having to move the wire box mount?
Having hung thousands of light fixtures in my IBEW career this was pretty good. I know you didn't want to go deep into the weeds on this but you missed one point. Those fixture studs are 90% of the time to long and the acorn nuts don't tighten it up all the way as the studs hit the drywall ring. Not sure where you are at but here in Chicagoland everything is pipe metal box and yes other colors of wire than red/black/white. I would always put fixture strap studs through the canopy put acorn nuts on and hold it up at eye level with strap even with top edge of canopy. Then cut the extra threads on the backside of strap, leaving a little extra. I always hated those type of fixtures, pain to get level.
What kind of bulbs are these and can led bulbs be used with this type of fixture that’s on a dimmer switch? My bulbs look similar to this but recently went out. For some reason the lights will go out when I slide the dimmer switch all the way up to brightest setting.
I just started my electricians class and my mom wants me to replace our light fixtures already lol. When you wire nut, do you need to twist the wires before you wire nut it or is it optional? Edit: oh and where can i find those voltage testers you used in the beginning of the video
Most light fixtures I have installed are wired the same, the light itself may go together a little differently since they all look different. But yes the mounting and wiring stays the same for the most part from my experience.
Hello. We're getting a J-Box in our new dining room. Can't tell if that is what you're using in this video or some other kind of box. Basically, do you think a J-Box can hold a chandelier like the one you just installed? Thanks
I'm looking at one of these pretty similar. Can you just delete the poles altogether? Like attach the loops to just the lamp and base and use only chain?
Is there any issues with the ground wire being bare ? I installed one but felt the bare ground wire should come with a sleeve maybe with a green stripe on it . I wrapped it with electrical tape.
I will first say to double check your instructions to see if it lists what they designate each as but without being there the L is most likely for line which is the hot wire and the N for neutral.
Question… I added an extra receptacle in the hallway by tapping into a receptacle around the corner. I also changed the old receptacle to a gfci. Issue is that when I plug something into the new receptacle it trips the gfci. (I did realize after going through the routing process that the old wiring seems to be a different sized wire… could this be my problem?)
Hi I have a question my chandelier that I got has three wires on it but when I took the old one out the ceiling only has two and they are both the same. The wires on the new chandelier are green black and white which two do I connect?
I had a small power brick in my ceiling and accidentally ripped a piece of plaster off trying to get everything out. Also broke my replacement light 😭. I just removed all of the light fixtures now and put the bases back to cover the wires. It won’t start a fire or anything right?
Do you have to somehow verify that the light you're putting in weighs similar to the one you took off? Or are they all similar weights? or is the mount part capable or supporting up to a certain amount of weight?
I'm curious about the weight difference as well. I will be hanging something much heavier than what already exists, but I'm concerned. Excellent video!!

You just saved me so much money. Instead of hiring a task rabbit or electrician, you gave me the confidence to be able to do this myself! It was so easy, thanks to you!
I just bought my first home and you gave me so much belief that I can do this myself!! I am going to try this but first shut off the power
Yes, definitely shut that off first! Let me know how it goes. Thank you for the feedback!

If the wire is pretty long (longer than I need) would you cut it with wire cutters? Or just leave it and stuff it into the ceiling?
I cut it. No reason to have a bunch of excess wire. Hope this helps!

How do you level a 2 chain chandelier light?
New fixture has one brown wire and one blue wire.. no ridges…,which one is hot ?? Tx
So your light fixture is using international standards. Typically the brown would connect to your hot wire and the blue to the neutral.
Thank you!
