    I think the issue here is the ISP has 1 knob and all other settings are predetermined for you. The boss's decay is almost set to 0, so thats clearly going to effect it's cut.
    And the Silencer is just centered, which also isn't really well set.
    This comparison isn't fair, or well set up. The Silencer and NS should be set up properly before comparing.

    Ehx silencer is the best: that gives much sustain and color, just put the thresh roll over, the realese on 9 o'clock and reduction almost on 10-11 o'clock and all drives and distortions in the fx loop.

    • @Psyfonify
      @Psyfonify 7 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      But the Decimator kills more noise, faster, AND had infinite sustain unlike the zilch sustain of the NS-2....so the issue is the NS-2, not the threshold knob setting, no? sure you could fix it by reducing it, but then you'd be reducing EVEN LESS noise than the decimator does....i feel sad that i own an ns-2 now. i wish i didnt buy it. i absolutely need the decimator now...

    Don't search for extremely expensive gates that don't colour your tone, a gate will always change it a tinny bit depending on how it reduces noise bacause when you have a noisy guitar tone noise is a part of the signal and when you get rid of it your tone becomes more pure and will get louder by how mutch the noise the signal looses

    I am torn about the EHX Silencer and the TC ELECTRONIC NOISE SENTRY. I have owned 2 BOSS NS-2 pedals. The first one was from '88 and the other 2013, when my first one died, I replaced it with another in 2013!.. The newest one has failed me, looks brand new still. I am moving in on. I am thinking the Noise Sentry is great, the EHX is a great price. My NS-2s never worked as good as the one in this video so. Moving on to a new one. Too bad the ISP Decimator II G string is overpriced! I actually found out that my NS-2 failure was due to a problem with another power supply from my mini-pedal board by my mic stand. I have a wah Digitech Drop for my electric signal. I use a TC ELECTRONIC BODY REZ and DOD eq for my piezo, completely different signal only used by my EBMM 7 string and Fender Nashville Tele with Powerbridge. . I solved the issue by removing one pedal from the daisy chain and powering it up separately. No my NS-2 is working right! I do plan to upgrade mine and save the NS-2 as a backup.

    Fellows, get the ISP decimator if you want to spend more money on a noise gate if not buy the silencer. I also recommend TC electronic sentry. Don't buy the noise gate. It colors your tone, making it more muddy and it does not kill the noise signal immediately as you stop. This is a big no* for metal players like myself or if you are looking for such type of noise cancelling for your music.

  • @michaelcraig9449

    I am not a metal hesher, I play classic rock style but just as loud as metal, often at bar gigs. So I got classic Fender 60-70'sd amps with no effects loop on the back. I got one 2005 Marshall dsl 401 combo with effects loop on the back but I never used it yet, still trying to figure this stuff out. I played many years, just got into pedals a few years back and not doing very well with it. I understand music theory, and write and play tons of songs, but this pedal and electronic stuff is so much harder to understand for some reason. So is this pedal any good for loud medium gain classic rock tones, that is not super noisy high gain? I was thinking of getting the ISP G string. Seems odd that some guys say to put it before all pedals even before the tuner. I thought a tuner alway was the first pedal direct from the guitar.

    Are the pedals hooked up like this, guitar--->pedal-->amp? I hook up the silencer so it is working after the guitar and in the amp's fx loop at the same time (4 cable method). By doing this, I don't have problem the gate cutting of sound unnaturally during clean / soft playing. Plus, it cuts off the tube amp hiss aswell so my rig is dead quiet between rest. Bare in mind that , by hooking up that way (4 cable method) , the setup might introduce additional noise (I think it is ground loop noise). I need to ground lift the cable that going between send and amp's input to solve that additional noise. Besides that, if i use power adapter with the silencer, there will be extra power supply noise, but that might be because of the noisy adapter.

      Try this path of Signal Flow, It should help out a Bunch: Guitar into a Tube Pre-Amp, (Please...just Try It, Thank Me Later) Then into the High Gain Pedals, (Compressor, Distortion, EQ and Any other type of Pedal that adds DB Boost to the Signal Flow) into The 1st Noise Gate Pedal (of Your Choice) then into the Front End of your Amp. Remember, The Hotter the Signal into your Amp the More Overall Power Your Amp will Produce. Remember, Less is More, When it comes to Gain, Volume Itself is the Truest Form of Tone, Not Gain, Unless Your Desire is to be a HISS FEEDBACK MONSTER (You'd be Surprised at the amount of Players that Ignore the Obvious Signs, Due to Inexperience) Now that You've Thickened Up Your Tone and Cleaned it Up to be of More Use and Power, Now You can Color things up by Sending the Signal from the Effects Send from the Back of the Amp into Any Pedals that offer Reverb, Delay, Chorus, Flange, Phase, Tremolo...etc, into the 2nd Noise Gate Pedal (Again, Of Your Choice) Return on the Back of your Amp. Due Not add Too Much Threshold or it will Cut the Transcending Decays of the Effects, Remember, Less is More. By using the Effects Send and Return from the Rear End of Your Amp, You'll have More Control of the Wet and Dry Ratio of your signal (Provided You have the Footswitch for Your Amp) I Hope This helps the Players that are Confused or Misinformed about Signal Flow. - JV Fur'tl*i'zer

    Is it normal for the ns2 to make a pop noise when it releases when you hit the strings?

  • @MarioPepe
    @MarioPepe 7 ปีที่แล้ว +16

    Este vídeo es una estafa! Es obvio que se inclina por el Isp por intereses comerciales o es que simplemente no tiene idea de lo que significa la palabra decay. Tanto el Boss como el Silencer tienen un control para lograr el decay deseado, que no lo tiene el ISP

    hello man, I have the Silencer, and I agree with you, the silencer have a little delay to cut. My ask is: is ISP really more faster and better? Delay on cutting noise is very bothering me. If the ISP is the better one, I am thinking in change my gate. Thanks

    • @MusicBlissMalaysiaTV
      @MusicBlissMalaysiaTV  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The ISP is great, not only does it do an excellent job, it's also extremely easy to use.
      Another great option will be the TC Sentry Gate. We actually have another video on our channel where we compare the Decimator against the Sentry, do check that out as well!

    When you put the decimator first bt the boss pedal last because of its price

    • @swagnostic132
      @swagnostic132 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Matrixar the silencer is the cheapest though. the decimator is easiest to use and slightly less troublesome on the tone coloring.

    • @matrixarsmusicworkshop561
      @matrixarsmusicworkshop561 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      But I think the boss is the best... if I remember correctly

      Matrixar ive always heard thats not the case. its the default pretty much, but ive always heard the isp was the best. idk. ive only ever used the decimator

    • @Psyfonify
      @Psyfonify 7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Dude wtf, its obvious to hear in this video, the ISP cut more noise than the Boss, much faster. And it also had infinite sustain, unlike the Boss which only lasted for a few seconds. WTF how can you even state that after hearing this video. I wish i didn't waste money on this stupid inferior ns-2 :(((((

    • @MusicBlissMalaysiaTV

      4 cable method. Running through the front and the effects loop of the amp.

  • @kierenmoore3236
    @kierenmoore3236 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    Has everything to do with how well (or not) each pedal is set up ... Maybe the Decimator is just a little more idiot proof ...

    • @swagnostic132
      @swagnostic132 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Kieren Moore thats how i see it. never used an ns 2 or the silencer. the decimator is alot more simple, which is alot more effective sometimes

  • @RisvoldTheGreat
    @RisvoldTheGreat 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    ISP II g string is the superior product. You have duel channels and can place the pedal ANYWHERE in the signal chain. Before or after your high gain amp or pedals..thats why the ISP is $225 and the EHX is $60....do some research kids.

    I am not sure that you know how to set up a noise gate properly. The one that liked you I think it was the Decimator because only has one preset and the reduction/relase/decay its done automatically. Bad review

    I don't understand why boss pedals are even relevant today, I think they all pretty much suck except for the chorus pedal.

    • @mrihavenoname1512
      @mrihavenoname1512 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Just your opinion. I and many other people enjoy Boss pedals. They're affordable and a fast majority of them are fairly decent, of course you will get the few polished turds. However you cant deny that many big musicians of this day still use them and that stands for something.

      @ronnieeagleandthealchemist2333 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      good. stay away from the PS-6, it sucks. don't use it with a Fullbore metal either, because that pedal sucks too. No way anybody could get a usable tone out of that shit...hehe. ; ) mo uniqueness fo me.
