2017 Buick LaCrosse Review and Road Test - DETAILED in 4K UHD!

  • Although I secretly wish someone would still make a classic American land yacht, the 2017 LaCrosse isn't that car. Buick's latest products are about as far as you can get from the 1980s velour stereotype. The all-new full-size sedan delivers segment leading handling, segment leading power and excellent fuel economy. At the same time. Although the Lexus ES is the 900 pound gorilla in this segment and the Chrysler 300 is the last classic RWD sedan in the USA, the Buick beats both in the end. Does that mean it wins the crown in the premium full-size segment? Almost...

    love it, it blows anything away from Acura or Infiniti in the interior, ride, sound isolation, and luxury department, while matching Lincolns continental in material quality, build quality, features, and sound isolation for near half the price. well done buick

      Justin, he doesn't have a counter argument. This is a beautiful auto that isn't as stayed in styling as the last iteration. I have a 2005 Lacrosse and it's been a good car but it's not nearly as roomy in the back seat and the interior materials aren't nearly as high end, but that's pretty much the case with any automaker in the last decade.

      The other thing about the '05 is that although the wind noise is kept out very well, the engine makes a lot of noise under hard acceleration.

    Why the heck does every company want to go more sporty? I have a 2009 Lincoln Town Car because it's so smooth, quiet as hell inside and plenty of room. Why doesn't any company make cars like that anymore. I would love to see a company go back to that model and put the newer tech in it to make it even softer and smoother than the old. I'm 33 but love old school style. I don't need to go fast, turn fast or any sport crap.

    I'm impressed by the work Buick has done on this car especially on its lighter curb weight, handling and fuel economy. Man I have a 2012 Buick Verano and gets 25mpg on mixed driving and this thing gets better mpg with 130 more horse and a much bigger vehicle. Definitely on my short list when I replace my car, and I'm 26!

      Bruno TaTa, I'll have to agree. I just picked up a 2015 Leather LaCrosse for under 20K. Awesome value in my opinion. I don't feel like I'm missing a whole lot by getting a car that's 2 years old and over 15K cheaper. I'm 6'6" and my kids are tall too. The extra rear seat headroom is beneficial for us.

    • @rightlanehog3151

      Shame on Buick for actually reducing headroom in this new model.

    • @Buc_Stops_Here
      @Buc_Stops_Here 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I did not experience that with a 2010 Buick Enclave AWD I used to own until I did not need an SUV anymore. I sold it last year for 55% of the original value I paid for it, which is much more than other SUVs that are 6 years old with quite a bit of mileage on it. However, I agree with the basic premise - you always come out ahead of any brand buying a one year old model, Lexus and Mercedes included. At least $10,000 off if not more.

      Daryl, I don't know that you can even get a Lacrosse with cloth seats? They had one when they first came out in 2005, the CX model, but I haven't seen one with cloth in years.

      Sounds like you got a good deal. Was it a LaCrosse from a rental fleet? Those are usually a bit cheaper. My buddy got a 2015 BMW 5 series for about ~$26kish. Not bad, then again you have to be ok with the fact being a former rental.

    While the headroom is impacted by the design of the car in the back seat, it is more impacted by the sunroof option. If this car did not have the sunroof, his head would not touch the ceiling. Need more room? Delete the sunroof option. The Kia Cadenza is cheaper at list price - $5000. But since this video was made, Buick has been giving some LaCrosse's a $4000 discount - making the difference only $1000 this August. Great review as always, Alex does a nice job in every review I have seen.

    We bought this car in Aug 2017 Black no sky roof so we have extra head room in the back seat. We got the top of the line and LOVE it, everything about it. My brother bought a Chevy Malibu and loves the looks of our car more. It's very responsive, it won't allow you to day dream and cross over into another lane. The shifter takes some getting used to other than that it's a great car. The seats are more comfortable than any other new car we sat in. Our sales person listened carefully to us while looking for a car. He allowed us to take several on over nights and weekends and when we'd return one we'd tell him what we didn't like. We were about to give up when he left us a message that he thought he had what were looking for. We took it for the weekend and drove a few hrs each evening and the day before returning. By the time we got to the lot we were sure of our decision.

    Alex, it would be great if you also mention the integration of the vehicles you review with smart phones (Android Auto and Apple Car Play). This feature brings a wealth of functionality. It also makes all the manufacturer installed navigation subpar to what Google Maps and Apple Maps can offer today. Plus a wealth more - it is like having a personal assistant always present in the car. . In my case - this integration - actually non-integration - was a major factor in purchasing my recent vehicle. I think it is a factor for a lot of consumers.

    There seems to be quite a bit of "hot air" in this comments section, some generalizations in the way people are talking about this car...but the point is, people are talking about it! Buick is turning heads and fueling passions again. Let's tackle some of the more glaring of these. While the LaCrosse probably does outclass most of the Acura lineup...not terribly hard to do...it does not blow away anything from Infiniti. If only because of Infiniti's rear wheel drive driving dynamic, I would think most Infiniti offerings are going to feel more well put together than the Buick would. And we can't really know about the materials or build quality of a Lincoln Continental until more people have driven it and reviewed it.

    excellent review, as always! kinda bummed that buick decided to compromise ride comfort in their new lacrosse. i think that cadillac made the same unfortunate decision for the ct6. if buick were smart, they'd offer a suspension setting somewhat similar to the "dynaride" from the '80s and '90s. cadillac should offer a similar, more compliant, suspension setting for magnetic-ride equipped ct6 cars. dreams of corner carving in a large buick or cadillac may be the wet dream of a select few, but never at the expense of ride comfort.

    Once again GM's lack of imagination and annoying product amenities for the Lacrosse keeps this car one nostril above water. I owned two of these, a 2007 and 2010. All show no go. Half of this car looks like an Impala the other half looks like who knows what. Stiff ride again, what the hell are they thinking? I like my 2014 300C. This Lacrosse can stay on the Dealer's lot forever in my eyes. As usual Alex a great presentation and review.

    I currently drive a Buick Lesabre, which was Buick's last true land yacht. I am 20 years old and I really do appreciate "grandpa's buick", there is just a level of elegance that really no new vehicle has. The closest to it is the chrysler 300, and thats a dying car sadly. Alex, I see lack of thigh support in rear seat. I actually didn't know about it till saw in summary of a online review portal. Isn't that a genuine concern? If their are sedans that provide better thigh support, I would say 1 or more points from rear seat comfort should be shaved off. Legs and feet will need to be stretched to get thigh support from seats of such height (would the weight distribution shift more towards surface in contact with the seat?). I tried something like that in a midsize sedan, which has 86mm less leg room than Lacrosse as per autotrader. I would not consider it a realistic possibility in that sedan as my shoes were shoved under the seat and it was a squeeze.

      Look into the 24 hour test drive that's advertised on Buick's site. It will give you a better idea about the car than what you can get in 30 minutes. I had one for a day two months ago, and will again for my vacation in two weeks. I plan on borrowing one then going on a road trip to see if I still want one.
      To borrow one, you'll need full coverage insurance, and sign a letter stating that if anything happens to the car you are legally liable for it. And your driver's license.

    Hi, Alex... when I watched this review back in January, I wasn't sure I liked the new grille and and taillight treatment. However, I've subsequently been able to get a close up look of the new Lacrosse and it does appearl to me on many levels. The Lacrosse is a very comfortable vehicle. I've also taken a look at the new Kia Cadenza and had the same reaction. For me to make a choice between these two models, it would be like trying to split hairs.

  • @hellkitty1014

    @AlexOnAutos
    Another great review! I do have one caveat though. Your LaCrosse ran from 0-60 in 6.5secs. Most automags and video reviews have the 300 V6 running 0-60 in the 6.2-6.5sec, so I'm not certain of where the Chrysler is slower? Also, the 2016 Chrysler 300 RWD has an EPA rating of 19/31/25, so f/e isn't all that worse(although I cede your point of the 2017 testing).
    And the biggie: Pricing. For the top end pricing, one can have a 300 Platinum w/ HEMI, real leather dash, upgraded interior trim and infotainment, and in real transaction price, the Chrysler will likely be substantially cheaper, given the cash off of MSRP that is available.

      In our last test of the 2016 300 V6 we did 0-60 in 7.1, the difference really does makes sense when you look at the weight. However as I say in the comparison section, the RWD 300 is going to be more fun, less expensive and if you get the V8 it will also be significantly faster.

    I like the overall design, but...
    3:00 Reminds me on Opel/Vauxhall Insignia somehow...
    10:30 I'm still fan of analog speedometer and the stearing wheel looks bulky...
    27:00 Now I can see the silimarity to Opel also in the front...no wonder, it's GM...

    Kind of surprised that the MKZ keeps being omitted in your comparisons. It's right in the same line in terms of pricing, also offers AWD which you can't get in most of the competitors you talked about, and honestly I think Buick shoppers are a lot more likely to cross shop Lincoln than say a Nissan Maxima.

    • @shethjones4494

    Buick's lineup will continue to appeal to the average Joe and geriatric crowd. But I'll give 'em credit with this one: the new LaCrosse is the only Buick on the market worth a second look.

    Even though the exterior looks much sleaker than past Buick LaCrosse's, very good looking. But if I'm driving this all I'm going to see is my Grandmas 1998 Buick LaCrosse every time I look at that Steering Wheel

    disappointed with the reported rough-road ride quality in this newer model, for that amount of coin it should ride as gently/smoothly over the rough stuff, as a base model vw passat.

      Ok, thanks! It would be intresting to see if there is a market for a full size Opel nowadays. At least here in Sweden Opel is not considered a premium product as their marketing seems to want it to be. "Köp en Opel, bli belåten! Se Sverige genom plåten!" Is still in most swedes consciousness due to their problem with rust until recenty
