Chairty-Jane serves green runs, but it was never about opening more beginner terrain. It's about making it easier to ski that terrain. Before Charity was around, if you wanted to ski horse shoe bowl or any of that terrain to the left, you ended up skating forever to get back to alberta. This also makes it easier on ski patrol to get around on that side of the mountain. Now why they decided to spend the money on a detachable lift there is beyond me. Nice vide, though!
Charity Jane is really just to get you out of the flats and back to the Alberta lift when you are skiing the left side of the mountain. Elma completes the transaction down in the flats by getting you back to base camp. Those three lifts replaced the snow cat shuttle that used to run to get you back to base camp.
Thanks for the guide! I will be going to wolf creek in a month or so, and wanted to know the tree skiing routes. I used to snowboard every day when I was younger and lived next to a small resort, but haven't snowboarded in 14 years. I remember going to wolf creek and loving the narrow tree paths, and was hoping to find those kind of routes again.
Great commentary. Question..What are your thoughts on taking Treasure Stoke lift to take trails s-turn to pitchs gate to orions beltway to lower feather duster..Ill then kick to Elliot Parkway (is the kick really that bad?) to Alberta lift to take a short stint on cyote park trail to make that turn into park avenue to navajo trail so i can get back on Treasure Stoke lift. Im trying to get these really long runs that arent too advanced. I want to keep it all blues and greens. Also whats the difference between the end of Orions Beltway (blue) to where it merges with Abracadabra (black)? Is the end of Orions beltway really a (black)?
The first run would take you down to Charity. Elliot runs Alberta-->Charity. That first run is also mostly traverses, but if you're fine with that, go for it. You'll have to ride up Charity to get back to Alberta, but after that, the next run looks good. No, lower Orion is not a black. It's poorly depicted on the trail map, but that section won't give you issues.
If you stay high and left, I think it's possible to get to Alberta, but I'm not too sure. If you end up at Charity Jane, it's a really short ride and ski back to Alberta
@@SRGSkiing great, thanks for the quick reply. is it mostly all hiking? and i heard that there was a ride that takes ppl out on towards horseshoe from the top of the ridge somewhere, any truth to that?
The hike starts with a metal staircase up to Knife Ridge Chutes. From there, you can ski a little ways along the ridge and then there is sometimes a snowcat from Dog Chutes that will take you the rest of the way. I'm not sure on the consistency of the cat though.
BOY do we disagree on Chairty Jane! When I go to Wolf Creek we get to Charity Jane and spend all day there, riding the little chair lift and doing short runs over and over again. The absence of crowds there is awesome. Thanks for the guide, though!
Oh I'm not denying that it's empty. My point is that if you're a true green skier who doesn't ski blues, you can't even get to CJ. It's nice to get away, but its purpose as a beginner pod is defeated
@@SRGSkiing If you skate past the bathrooms at the bottom of Alberta, you can ski/ride down to Charity Jane. We bring kids and beginners over there pretty regularly. It's maybe 100 yards of skating and then you have enough of a grade to get down. It's worth it if Raven is busy at all and you have beginners that don't want to worry about getting clobbered
@@SRGSkiing I never noticed that they have A-Way colored blue before. That's about as green a run as it gets. You can get super beginners down there, no problem. Want to second the fact that Charity Jane was built as a jumper lift, not to get more green runs on the mountain. They used to run a snow cat to drag skiers out of there. The best terrain on Alberta all ends at Charity Jane Great video, man! It's a really strong overview of the mountain for anyone visiting
I will say that given this new Tumbler lift, it would make sense that maybe with CJ they were trying to knock out two birds with one stone. Because I do wonder the merit of building a super short detachable as a connector lift instead of replacing Alberta itself. But yeah, I see what you mean about it being a connector lift.
funny how you claim it to be a 'local' area. I went there in Feb and everyone I met, a few dozen, were all from Texas, Also, I found the food choices and quality outstanding. I would never, ever suggest bringing a sack lunch as you did. otherwise-, a good video.
Excellent presentation! Very useful to make the most of your visit.
hey thank you so much for all these in-depth resort reviews you do; they're lifesaving and much needed! Keep it up! Cheers mate

Thanks for this. Planning a trip this spring.

Take Alberta up, head to your left, and take your pick! They're all over the place.

Great vid! U planning on doing one on beaver creek anytime soon?
We might make a BC one later this season, but no promises
Great info .. skiing WP for the first time today!
If you're skiing down horseshoe bowl, do you have to ride Charity Jane to get back to Alberta lift?
If you stay high and left, I think it's possible to get to Alberta, but I'm not too sure. If you end up at Charity Jane, it's a really short ride and ski back to Alberta
Thats the real reason for Charity Jane.... easy access back to Alberta
Thanks for the video. Helps me so much to plan taking my boys :)
During bad weather with snow on US-160, is it easier driving to Wolf Creek from Pagosa Springs or South Fork?
From the east. So I suppose South Fork
one question that just popped into my mind is how long it takes to get from alberta lift to horseshoe and voodoo bowl area?
About 40 minute hike to Horseshoe, a little longer for Voodoo

what’s the best run for someone going to wolf creek the first time? or your favorite run?
Deoends on your skier level, but my personal favorite is Abracadabra
This was a great vid for me because I’m getting ready to go to wolf creek
So glad I could help!

The problem is just getting to the bottom of Alberta on a green in the first place. There is that road, but it's technically a blue somehow.

Do you have to hike the whole way to sleeping beauty or is it a ski along the ridge? Generally true for the whole area? Thx
Mostly ski with a bit of hike
NOT TRUE!!! I am LITERALLY starying closer than South Fork OR Pagosa RIGHT NOW!!! Also, Pagosa's not small. Horshoe bowl tmrw, wish me luck!

I don't ski WC as much nowadays, so this is definitely made on my knowledge from skiing in the early 2010s. Things have definitely changed.
🤫
theres a reason wolf creek has tons of snow and isint packed and it 100% has to do with the terrain/vert
Also it’s in middle of nowhere
