- In this dog training video, we discuss why successful dog training outside should start in the house. Even if you're dealing with outdoor issues, like dog reactivity, we always want to start training indoors (your house, a facility, or somewhere with zero distractions) and build our way up from there.
This video is in response to metrics I noticed on my recent video: 5 Tips To Helping With Your Reactive Dog ( • 5 Tips To Help With Yo... ).
Thanks for watching! How is your dog doing inside the house?

So true! My 9 month olde Australian shepherd is so excitable around distractions. He walks nicely on a loose leash, a pretty fair heel....but all bets are off around people or dogs. He is so friendly and just wants to run and kiss and jump and play. Working on slowly acclimating him to closer and closer distractions. We do a fair amount of our training inside and also in our enclosed large yard. Slowly but surely. I'm one of the viewers who didn't drop off during that video! Thank you for all your videos. Always so helpful.
Thank you so much for taking the time to watch and comment, and for finishing the other video! I really appreciate your support.
It sounds like you're doing everything right. One thing that has worked really well with Buddy (the dog in this video) is clicker training. Personally, I don't use clickers with a lot of dogs (no reason except that I don't like carrying one haha), but it's really helped his owners bridge that communication gap to make him more focused and responsive. It might be worth a shot.
Yes! Yes! Yes! Starting inside, I have found with my puppies, is THE way to go. Thank you for a totally common sense approach to training our dogs!!!!
Thank you so much for watching and commenting! And it's unfair to the dog to expect perfection outside when they've barely learned the behavior inside.
Great video, I hope people take this to heart because it's absolutely true. I've been practicing a ton in the house and slowly move farther and farther outside and it's working really well
Thanks for watching and commenting! It sounds like you and your pup are on the right track! Keep up the good work! ❤️💕
