GREAT comparison! Primal is coming up on here just because that gets into that era of Tommy's playing that I absolutely loved. He was a freaking machine. This is a bit more straight ahead on the studio track; however - I can almost guarantee Tempesta had some fun with this live. He is still probably my fav drummer for Zombie. Dude is a boss. Yo Todd! Very / ultra kind of ya my friend and the thanks for mentioning the shirt! I can't believe that thing has survived along the way. I had to google this because I wasn't even playing drums in a band or thinking of really trying to play music when I saw them. It was 1989 and they opened for Bon Jovi. A friend offered the ticket and to my surprise it was really close. That concert along with the Dr. Feelgood concert (not too long after that) made me start putting in way, way more practice time after school. Appreciate you bud! 🤘🤘🤘

And it's been cool because as time has gone one, there are tricks and techniques that are so fun to use. I started on here and I have a hard time going back listening to songs from 3-4 years ago. I could not agree more. Those kinds of beats are insanely fun and they get a drummer hired. All of Rob's stuff - he's got a really good ear for keeping drums right where they need to be for what he does best. And the list of drummers he's had is a who's who. What is up bro!!! I had the chance to see White Zombie once and then later I saw Rob Zombie. I honestly don't know who their drummer was the first time I saw them. All I can say is it was a HELL of a show and they were on. It was way more raw and at the same time, they were hungry as hell. Rob's shows was a way bigger venue and he was with Pantera. That was Joey Tempesta handling the drums. The whole floor area was bodies flying so I just made my way over to the side and got a decent angle to watch Tempesta play. It was so great to watch someone of that caliber just do what they do. And to me, that was still relatively new in terms of playing live with these sampled tracks. Just like I said on your channel - you burned it up again with your latest dude 🔥🔥🔥

🤣🤣 It honestly is!! Even though it isn't fast, it's got the burn factor when played with some intensity. I had to back the hi hat mic off a fair bit on this because it was WAY too loud on those first few takes LOL! I also had to take myself down a bit. Small room syndrome. If I kill the cymbals, there is not fixing that in the mix (even though I'm still thinking there is a way 🤣🤣🤣). Have a great weekend!!!

So - your snare tone to me is up there with some of my Heros. Alex Van Halen, Danny Carey and Joey Jordison. I love unique snare tones. Strange as it is - it seems like many drummers don’t work on a snare sound. Yours - to me - is awesome. Great work! Stay solid dude. You are always right in the pocket! Such a good player. Cheers!
Damn dude, that's amazing of you to say! Well, on the sound side - I very much use a hybrid sound. So you're hearing a real snare blended with a sampled snare stack. In a bunch of my older videos on here, the sample is WAY, WAY too high. Mixing is something that is a work in progress dude. I change something almost weekly. Anyways, by the time this came around, the sample is further down in the mix. It's still there for that punch for the room and overhead mics - those are HUGE in getting a good snare sound. And the part that I can't overemphasize is hitting the hell out of it. Solid and consistent rimshots. It helps the drum to cut and keeps the mixing part much more achievable. Sorry for blabbing. Your comment really did just make my day bro

This was a pretty superhuman cover in and of itself, Trey. Those machine-gun 16ths on the hi-hat never wavered, except for some awesome fills. You definitely added some flesh-and-blood intensity to a higher mechanized track. Plus my band recently added this one to the set, so I may “borrow” some of your ideas.😏. Phenomenal work, as always!

I've been working my way through your videos and really enjoying your work. Sometimes you get a song where it's difficult to restrain yourself from trying to put your sticks right through the snare. Looks like you may have stuggled on this one like I do! As always, a rocking cover and it's a pleasure to watch you play. Although sometime I'd love to hear how you developed the style that has you setting up your hi-hat eight feet high!
🤣🤣🤣 Good ears and good eye bud. These types of songs are the ones where the motor inside is revving but you gotta keep it in a reasonable gear. But that old fashioned chopping wood action is still as fun today as it ever was. I do remember a few times doing this (years ago) and I know the speed was way too high. The energy of the song is just so damn cool. On the hat, I wish I had some cool story but I really don't. I started lifting it as I was incorporating different stick tricks. The separation helped in some cases. Then in a studio here or a studio there, they wanted the hat and snare as separated as possible and next thing ya know, that hat is 8 feet up LOL! For real, I appreciate the kindness and I really mean that 🙏🙏🙏

The ol' Tambo literally had dust on it Jeff 🤣🤣🤣 You don't feel bad for that thing one second. It didn't cooperate for shit. I had to tighten it with a wrench, then tighten the rack clamp, then fight with the cymbal arm I mounted it to.......damn percussion instruments LOL!!!!!!

Totally respect that dude. I got into them, Prong, Nine Inch Nails and a number of acts that seemed to be in the same general time frame. 🤣🤣 The hats get some love on here and I swear it isn't intentional or a gimmick. For whatever reason, I started lifting them higher and higher as I went. I think part of it was a long time ago, it helped with some stick tricks and also in studios, engineers really liked that extra separation between the hats and snare. But anymore I just play 'em that high because they are comfortable. Now, if I have something where I need to really dig in on 16ths or god forbid 32nds on the hats, they come down. I've gone on and just never really thought about that bottom hat and I think you just helped me figure out what the hell it is. The top is a K Custom I just ordered on Ebay a few months ago. I'm hoping like crazy it doesn't break any time soon dude. But that bottom, I'm thinking that's what it is! It's heavy as hell so bottom is the only spot it would work. As to where / when I got that, I have zero clue. Bro - SO good to see you take on some Pantera! As far as DMB, you just owned that one Myke. Nothing but respect my friend 🤘🤘🤘
@@TreyBDrums The 13" K/Z combo was something Zildjian promoted back in the 90s, as I recall. I have a set, though the K is broken. They were some of my favourite hi-hats. Nowadays, I use the Z Dynobeat bottom with an A Custom bottom, and it's the clearest, brightest-sounding hi-hats I have. I didn't even know mixing hi-hats was a thing until I saw the K/Zs.

What's happening Julius! First, thank you so much for being kind enough to watch! The hi hat gets some attention on here LOL! But I'm happy to answer that. It just kinda ended up that way. I think I started lifting it way, way back because I was incorporating stick tricks in an Ozzy tribute band or it may have been just a garden variety cover band. But, the more time passed, the lower I sat and the more I raised it. Don't really have any particular reason other than it just became comfortable. Now if I'm doing something where I would need a fair bit of rebound on the hats, I lower them. I hope that answers the question honestly and if you got any other questions, hit me. Any more, I do take on some studio work from the house or I'll go in and out of Nashville (selectively and totally with friends - not part of any click there) and do some stuff. No band. I step in and help friends and I'm honored to do it. I toured my entire young adulthood with circuit bands, tribute bands, whoever was hiring. Now - Just a working stiff that loves to play. And I know it's a long shot but if this ever resulted in an act seeing it that reached out and was established, I'd be honored to still look at that. Thing is I simply don't even consider that a goal. My goal is to get on here, try to always deliver an OK product in terms of energy and execution, play, have fun and try to entertain. Aw bro, that's super cool of ya to say. Ginger has held that gig a pretty fair amount of time! I hadn't thought about that until reading this. Rob used to have a pretty big rotating door so it's cool he found some cats that have held on and stayed. BUT, if I ever could get a chance to at least try for a gig like that, I'd go for broke LOL! That band turned out to be PANTERA! One of those nights going in to see one band and being blown away by the other act. Yeah do Thunder Kiss! I did this one a little while back. That's so awesome! Evidently the touring history between the two was extensive. I saw the Pantera / Zombie lineup and Eyehategod was on the bill. I always really loved White Zombie's material but back then, with no internet to really assist us (LOL!!!), I was 100% in the dark on just how long Zombie had been playing clubs. And I hand it to Rob right now. That guy goes out and puts on a HELL of a show. Anybody in his band is a musician that belongs. For real my friend, thank you so damn much!!!!!!!!!!!
@@TreyBDrums I only saw Pantera two times unfortunately. The one time with White Zombie and later on I think it was Great southern trend kill era. Wasn't too long before Pantera broke up. I live like 5 minutes outside Tampa Fl. & being a long time music fan and musician in this area I've met of jammed with tons of folks. I have a few buddies who work at the Dean guitar factory in Tampa so when Damage Plan rolled thru I couldn't make it to meet Dime. Kicking myself as it wasn't long after he was killed. Such a shame Dime and the people were shot that night. I'm going to see the version of Pantera when they come to Florida. Enjoying jamming along with your videos Trey!
