Does anyone have the Russian Shrek ROM?
Well, it's time for Binyot to learn Russian.
The guy who voiced Shrek is actually a guy that voiced most of the western movies pre-2000, 90-80s maybe. Without him, watching would be impossible, as it is in English, and most Russians couldn't and still cant speak any English.
Soviet Union Russia 90s-80s did not import any western movies. This guy was a part of a team that would bootleg movies, and in early 2000s Russia was still transforming from Soviet Russia, so there were still no official localizations.
I hope Vinny checks out Sinclaire homebrew Russian games. A couple students in Saint Peterburg back in the day built their own Sinclaires and sold them, in small quantity, for 1000 Rubles. Back in the Soviet Union Russia, 1000 rub was over 12 paychecks, slightly above average wage. That was the only way to get them lmao
I had a Dreamcast growing up in siberia and bootlegs were the only source of games for it. Which usually had a some sort of broken translation, usually just subs (Sonic adventure ones were really funny, check out сыендук vids, search "сыс тв sadx") and were somewhat cheap, 100-300 rub, so $4-10 at the time, I guess.
Yeah, there were some groups doing subs for games like this. This was a phenomenon caused by the fact that the team translating didnt know any English, it was translated with a computer. The font of the game couldnt display cyrillic properly, as PS1\2\Dreamcast was limited in that regard. Most notorious, if you had a PS1, were Countdown Vampire, and RE. Spyro too, Parasite Eve. all in HET HOOMAN SPEEK.
ironically, or maybe not, these groups continued to do bootleg translations up until PS2, most notorious of which were Tekken 4\5, Black, you get the idea.
These broken translation groups moved from console to PC, now, mostly doing correct localizations on Z.O.G, russian translation site.

I think the reason why Sega Master System emulator sounds like that is because it transforms in-game sounds into kind-of MIDI commands for PS1 sound chip.
Probably doesn't help that it runs awfully also.

It's because Sony and Nintendo both have not and will never market a game console in Russia. Who knows why but it's been like that since before the PS1. For Nintendo, since the NES. Sega has, however, sold their Genesis (Mega Drive) in Russia which is why you see a lot of NES bootlegs on the Mega Drive and similar games ported.

It's a common practice for Russian home video translations (late 80's - early 00's). Some of them made voiceovers for hundreds of movies.
He was probably hired to do that
Thats actually a legendary Russian translator. He would single-voice everything, every movie, cartoon, anything there was to translate. He had to do it non-stop, all day long. Sometimes you could hear him take a break and leave, sometimes he would sound more tired, sentences would be too fast for him, and you can always hear him take a deep breath before a long phrase, but his voice is remembered with love by many russian viewers. Theres a small cut from a movie where he had to translate a long sentence full of good old american profanity and we still watch it and laugh over here at Russia. There were not many translators back in the days, still not as many as overboard. His name is Andrey Gavrilov.

back in the days of ps1 ISOs, my friend came across a weird disc that was just fmv video of russian text & models. not porno, not even softcore, just this weird in between modeling that was still kind of creepy for some reason. we had no idea what it was called but the nfo with it said something like BNAEO or BANEO at the top, so that was the unofficial name sharpie marker'd onto it lol.

That Amagon game is a Russian translated NES game and it runs on an emulator, and I'm sure it was selling as a bootleg game. That's how I played Dragon Warrior for the first time - I got a cd and the disc cover said Dragon Quest 7 and there were screenshots from that game, but on the disc there was actually a first Dragon Warrior game translated into Russian. And I actually liked to play it, though I couldn't save so I didn't beat the game

That Bishi Bashi game isn't a bootleg, it appears to be an official port. I played Super Bishi Bashi in arcades and it's pretty fun with friends, but I'm not sure it would be as fun on PSX. In arcades you have oversized buttons to slam with your hands which makes the whole thing a lot more frantic.
