Hi Bethany, I'm enjoying your presentations and find them very instructive and useful. I've followed your recommendation for sourcing keywords. However, I suspect that I'm not formatting them correctly. I received a report stating that "Keywords must be less than 80 characters". Can you help?

Thanks, Bethany! Our Sponsored Product Ad campaign, which we created in KDP, is not displaying any data. Amazon has explained to us that our Seller's account owns the buy box and, therefore, our KDP campaign will not produce data until it owns the buy box. Any suggestions as to how to remedy this?

I was thinking the same thing. I wondered if the key words were the best-selling authors first and last names?
i think it's the title and author names
At 7:41 in the video the 600 keywords are the book titles and the author names in the top 100 of the top 3 categories for your book.

I use a combination of AMS and KDP free days/promos. They do have different purposes, but both work well for advertising!
do you have people who can design an ad thru instagram that you do, instead of us doing it ourselves?
Im searching for info on ad groups in my amazon ads. I noticed you only put the paperback on you ad and not the eBook. Is there a specific reason you didn't put both on the same ad? Or is that redundant, if someone clicks on the ad they will see both books anyway and ad groups is designed for two separate but similar books? Anyone with experience with ad groups feel free to respond to help anyone with the same concerns, thank you.
It isn't redundant, it is about ROI for me. You can use the same keywords for both if you'd like. At the time of making this I kept my ebook profits low and used them purely to promote to new readers versus to make income, so ads on the ebook (for me in this scenario) wouldn't be profitable. But if it is profitable for you, then pop them on!
Hi Bethany.. I'm confused. When you target authors and their books, does that mean that their names become keywords and does it mean that when someone clicks on their books or that author that yours comes up? How does it work?
Yes, you have it right. Any keyword, from a phrase to author name will bring up your book when searched - it is just important to use relevant and similar authors/words/books/etc. so you are more likely to have a higher conversion rate.

I have read about key word targeting but but didn't know what they were talking about.I am a complete novice trying to understand marketing because when my first book is released, I''m going to have to know all this stuf. As I have never done any of it before, it all looks rather daunting. Going into uncharted waters requires not just technical knowledge but also understanding. I feel that I have made a big leap forward. Also I have an obsessive curiosity which means that if I don't understand something, I have to keep digging until I understand it completely. I can go back to those books that I didn't understand and re-read them and know what they're meaning.
Hello. Do you know how many self publishing authors used Amazon Advertising?
Everyone I know who uses KDP or is enrolled in Amazon Advantage, etc., honestly. It's one of the most effective methods for ROI.
Hi. Amazon is not letting me to run an ad on my book since I am not a vendor and also I don't have a kindle version of my book. Do u think your shown way will work if I don't have the mentioned two things?
If your book is not sold through Amazon (KDP, Seller Central, etc.) I do not believe it is allowed. You may need to reach out to their support team to see what options are available to you and for a more in-depth response.

Re keywords - the top 100 books in a category has an author with multiple books. Do you add that authors name once when listing their books? Or list their name after each book title?
I would only list their name once, and each title one and keep them all separate. Putting them together may be too long for a keyword.

Yes, as of now Amazon Ads allows for books published outside of KDP.
That’s awesome! I don’t really understand how it works though! I publish my book via Ingram spark, advertise it on Amazon and when it get ordered they just print and deliver it? 😅 is this how it works ?

The $.25 is charged against your $5/day budget each time the campaign generates a click on your book?
Right. .25 or less depending on how expensive the click was if you are using the setting that allows them to spend up to your max per click.

Bethany off topic- My book received a hateful review that was personal and nothing about the book. Numerous people have hit the report abuse button and sent emails stating how the review goes against community guidelines yet the review is still there and it’s not even a verified purchase. How can this be?
Unfortunately this can happen. I'd recommend contacting KDP support directly to address the review and to see if it can be removed. I'm sorry that has happened. Wishing you the best.

I called KDP and although they agree that is wasn’t a review but rather hate speech they said they couldn’t do anything and sent me the Amazon link which I’ve filled out 25 times already and many of my readers hit the report abuse button yet the review still there. This is very disappointing that Amazon doesn’t police their own community guidelines even after it’s brought to their attention. Is there anything else a person can do to get this hate off their reviews?
It sounds like you’re suggesting to use author names and book titles as keywords. Amazon doesn’t allow that when you upload through KDP. Will Amazon ads actually allow someone to use these as keywords or did I misunderstand something? It’s strange to me that the two rules are so different.
Yes, that is exactly what I'm saying and no such rule exists. This video is referring to keywords in ad sets and there are no rules against using any of the keywords I've suggested. In fact, they recommend it.
Do you have a 2024 version of this tutorial?
It is coming soon - but the same concept still works! The UI is a little different and I do recommend a higher bid now.
My screen looks nothing like yours. Are you aware of any changes? Is the UK different?! Frustrating as always dealing with Amazon!!
The colors have changed a bit and it got a bit of a facelift, but all the options should still be there.
