The biggest problem people have with this gun is the name on it. Some people are going to hate on Taurus simply because it's a Taurus, they don't need another reason. I've owned 4 and never had a problem with any of them. They have worked as well as my Glocks and never a problem!

That is so true!! If it's not what they have in their holster then they're not happy!! That's like some people say only Garrand made a good rifle but like a certain body part we all have one like opinions!!

Yeah, there is a guy I work with who keeps telling me if I’m not spending 500.00 or more then I’m not getting a reliable gun, but he is a Glock snob. He also spent over 800.00 on a competition pistol and he doesn’t even plan on competing.

Just bought one. I prefer a first long pull for safety. Once fired you're committed to the fight so then the short reset is good. Feel free to criticize my rationelle, I'm always learning.

I'm buying a G2C soon. I currently carry a S&W SD9 VE. I upgraded with a APEX tactical trigger because OEM was 8lbs pull, I dropped that to 5lbs. As with anything new to you, you need practice to familiarize yourself with the weapons operation. There are minor fixes to help with the scratchy binding of the trigger.

You hit the nail on the head brother ! For a defensive weapon I prefer the long DA pull too, short reset for fallow up shots. I currently carry a 1911 Elite Officer, or an MR9 eagle. The eagle functions is almost identical except for a decocker. Picking up a G2C in a couple weeks.

    • @michaelsmith7349
      @michaelsmith7349 5 ปีที่แล้ว +6

@@wesleymatson846 you are all wrong. This pistol when loaded and cocked is always in single action mode. The double action or long pull is only for follow up shots if the slide does not cycle. So the first shot is the same as all subsequent shots. The action can be decocked so the first shot is double action. There are videos that show how, using the locking key. That being said I love this gun. It does seem to shotgun groups using standard 115 grain target loads, but I tried some remington green box 115 grain JHP and it was a tight group right on target.

Once you realize how quick the reset is, the trigger is not the problem at all. Rapid firing may look and sound cool but it is difficult to reclaim the target and stay in the kill zone. You also tend to get more fliers. Love my G2!

Interesting demonstration. I just bought a new G2C last week and took it out of the garage to the range this past weekend. I found the same thing with the trigger. Yeah, it’s a long draw with the first shot. But then, the reset is shorter than my Glock 21 Gen 4. That’s right, I said it!
No issues I didn’t expect for a defensive handgun. I initially bought it for my wife. Initially.
I might be picking another one up soon. This time maybe the Fuchsia frame and silver slide. Why? Because I’m not carrying around no Fuchsia colored handgun. That’s why.

I totally agree that a defensive carry gun doesn't need a so called "amazing trigger" that a lot of gun people go on about... Taurus triggers are just fine for this very reason. I've fired a lot of pistols with GREAT triggers, and when I first got a Taurus G3c, my very first thought about the trigger was "it's not great, but it's functional. It'll do just fine". Like you said it's not designed to be tight grouping at 50 yards. It's designed to be simple, practical and functional for defensive carry, and that's ok in my book.

All of your insights and feedback are spot on. The trigger is different and surprising if you aren’t familiar with it. That doesn’t make it inferior or bad... only different. I love PT111 G2 and all that it offers. Is it my safe queen? No... it’s a work horse that isn’t afraid to get dirty and used. Nice review

    • @devilsdenmetalworks1809
      @devilsdenmetalworks1809 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

If im not mistaken, the long first pull could have been intentional. It can be helpful. After practicing, once getting your support hand up to it, taking it off safety, you can acually start squeezing the trigger while pushing it out and up to the target.

i bought two of these guns at the same time based on the strength of the reviews alone. put several hundred rounds thru each . over 600 rounds thru one to be exact. had only a few malfunctions early on and consider them to be reliable so far. i gave one to my son who continues to shoot and enjoy it with no problems , mine has been sitting lately but they are damn fine pistols . considering i paid under 200 bucks each they are one hell of a bargain considering what you get for your money. great video man

I carry a 1911. Have Carried one for years. Saw this pistol, did my research. I have two on order, one for me and one for my wife. That Long initial pull is there to keep you from making a unintended discharge in a highly stressful situation. Like the man said, it's a defensive firearm. Keep that in mind, and practice.

      @DjPorkchop73 6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

That is a fact. Unless one can't afford a thousand rounds per week. If they can only afford to go to the range once a month or so, they need to figure out a good dry fire exercise with this gun or find something they can better manage. Me, I fall in the category that I can only go every now and again to the range due to health issues. So, I have to dry fire at home. My patterns are getting much better than they were to begin with with this gun, but you are right, practice practice practice. And practice good. Shit practice results in shit shooting. If bad practices are practiced ....... heaven help us all.

I cannot speak for the 111 G2 but I absolutely love the trigger on my G2C. yes it has a fairly long travel on the first shot but follow up shots with such a short and smooth reset made me love this trigger. Now if you want to have your world rocked swap out the stock trigger for a keep tinkering short throw SA/DA trigger. It does as advertised and reduces initial travel while keeping the short reset. It also eliminates the slight bump you may sometimes feel on initial pull by getting rid of the trigger safety.

I disagree (sort of). I just took my G2C to the range last weekend, and I find the challenge of consistent, accurate shooting at greater distances a lot of fun. The trigger doesn't seem bad at all for a $200 gun; it hits the wall definitively, and has a positive, tangible click on the reset that I can even hear with ears on. This little sucker seems as good for defense as it is for practice on the range.

I only disagree with part of your comment. When I got mine, it felt like it was being dragged across sandpaper, and not the fine 320 grit either, the nasty rip-your-face-off 40 grit. It was horrible. But the nice thing was, for $35 and about an hour of my time, I completely transformed the gun. Sacrificed the re-strike capability, but I never was all that excited about pulling the trigger on a round that didn't go bang the first time.

I took my Texas CCW course last week and one of the RSOs made some comments about the quality, trigger, etc. He asked me what I thought and I told him I would let my target do the talking. I scored 247 out of 250. He didn't have anymore comments about the gun.

The fit and finish of this gun is absolutely incredible. I honestly don't understand how Taurus is able to offer this gun for sale at the price-point it is. Even the feed ramp is polished to a mirror finish. I purchased this for my wife, and I have no doubt we will have two in our home very soon. If you can't get over the trigger, that says more about your skill than the quality of the gun.

A wonderful pistol - bought mine (in 9mm) on a Wednesday; brought it home, read the manual, cleaned the pistol and took it to the range on Thursday afternoon. I then brought it home, cleaned it, re-read the manual and took it to the range on Friday morning. I left the range, drove to the dealer and bought the same gun in a .40 caliber on Friday afternoon. HAVE NEVER HAD A PROBLEM WITH THIS GUN IN EITHER FORMAT -- NEVER.

I have a g2c and a g3c, both with keeptinkering triggers installed. I opted for the ones that eliminate the double strike feature. It, in my opinion, makes a fair trigger into a very good trigger. I have never had, in over 50,000 rounds fired, have never had a malfunction that restrike capability would have fixed. Even with .22 ammo, you still have to rotate the cartridge to have a fresh area of primer to try. I have yet to have any malfunction with either the g2c or the g3c.

Late to the Taurus party. But here I am. I was once a Glock hater. But Those law enforcement trade in models. Screaming deal. Then I came to appreciate the Glock. Recently looking at a Glock 43x when watching reviews of different carry options. Was at the lgs n was fondling a few of the options when I put the g2c in my hands first time. It felt good. Pointed well, had the tungsten color frame n slide. Trigger pull was familiar...... Or close enough to the Glock trigger. Perfect conceal size. A manual safety makes me feel less likely to loose a nut. Things can happen while holstering...... I love my gen 3 g22. The Taurus reminds me of a Glock in many ways. But it has a more defensive trigger n a side safety. So many vids n reviews of it running no issues doing torture tests muds sand water ect n it ran..... Except sand. But I'm not a 🐪 jockey. Mostly prairie n woods n swamps in my area.

First of all, great video sir! I recently purchased the latest '18 model of this pistol simply called the G2 and absolutely love it. Guys, this man is spot on correct with his description of why this trigger was designed as it is. It is a defensive weapon! As such I personally like the long takeup on the 1st pull. Subsequent rapid fire shots are easy cos the reset is audible but more importantly it's "feelable". Great gun, incredible value!!! I've only put 270 rounds thru mine but many different types and brands of 9mm ammo. I have had zero problems. Ejection is excellent and consistently puts the spent case in the same place. Keep up the good work my man!

I absolutely love this pistol. I’m really not sure what all the fuss is about the trigger. Allow me to start off by saying that I am a licensed NRA firearms instructor, an almost 30 year veteran of the USAF, and an avid shooter. On a good week I may shoot as much as 1000 rounds. Typically, however, I probably average between 150 to 200 rounds per week. I know a lot of people who shoot more, so I’m not claiming to be the best or to know it all. That said, in my opinion this is a fantastic little self-defense pistol.
It is by no means a quality 1911, or a Sig P226, or any other high-end pistol you can find. It’s intended purpose is to be a very good home defense or concealed carry firearm-period. The trigger is fine for those purposes. Think about how stressed the average person will be when confronted with a life or death situation. The adrenaline and nerves will be off the chart! If you don’t believe me, simply ask anyone who has ever been involved in a shooting. It’s not like tv! The point I’m trying to make is this: for a life or death scenario, the average Joe or Jolene will have no trouble whatsoever in pressing the G2c’s trigger; adrenaline alone will take care of that.
If your looking for a competition pistol, look elsewhere. If you’re looking for another option for either concealed carry or home defense, at a bargain price, I encourage you to give this pistol a try.

    Accuracy is spot on.

What I never understood was people who hate on this trigger are Glock guys... Glocks have a decent pull weight, but they've always been kinda gritty and awful to me. The PT111 has a long pull as you said, but the pull weight is actually kinda nice. There's a lot of little guns like this that are under rated. The Bersa BP9/BP9C is a prime example of such a gun. People think nothing of them because A, it's Bersa and they're only really known for the Thunder which seems to be split 50/50 in favor of or against. And B, it's a Bersa lol.. But seriously, it's a polymer framed striker fired gun by a company that most people dont think highly of.
The Taurus is the same way to me... Taurus has had it's bumps in the road. They had a rocky past, but they are not the same company that they were. They really are working hard to improve their product and it shows. Recently a guy was telling me they've got recalls on 9 different pistols, which I cant find anything about it. But by the sounds of it, nothing that other companies havent had before.
The big point I think being driven home here is... use the weapon and train with it. Skills will overcome a fair number of design short comings or long trigger pulls. I spent 3 years with a S&W SD40VE and after about 5k rounds that trigger NEVER got better, but that wasnt a horrible thing. It was awful, but it was consistent. And after a few mags, you know how it's going to pull, when it's going to break, reset, etc. And it would do so consistently. If I bought another today I'd likely upgrade the trigger due to preference, but then again I might not. Because I still know what to expect.
I've got one of those Taurus PT's, mine's in .40 S&W and frankly... it honestly reminds me of my service pistol. The Sig P229R DAK in .40 S&W. Takes the same magazines too... one of the nifty things about those PT111's is they take P226 magazines, can usually get some MecGar mags real cheap that work wonderfully. But the trigger pull on it was about the same as that double action only on the Sig, had a good pull weight and long travel. Which is what you want on a defensive pistol in my opinion. Single action is nice for target shooting and going for accuracy, but when things go wrong you're not likely to have a single trigger pull ready to go unless you're a 1911 guy or something. But I can tell you, that firing under stress with a single action will SEVERELY throw you off. And last time I checked, most people dont purposely stress themselves out when they go shooting so I doubt you'll be able to train around it much.
Those little Taurus guns are hard to beat for the price and they really are quite nice. I just hate to see people pass up on them because the brand name.

I have had two G2Cs, both have had potentially lethal trigger failures due to the trigger safety getting hung up and not disengaging when the trigger was pulled. My first G2C did it frequently. The 2nd one only a couple of times. Either way, I did not trust it as a defensive gun with the stock trigger. Imagine NEEDING to use your weapon and having the trigger refuse to budge in the very instant that your life is on the line. I installed a single action trigger from Keep Tinkering and couldn't be happier with it. Total trigger travel was greatly reduced and that goofy double strike "capability" is gone (along with the threat of accidentally blowing up the barrel trying to double strike a squib). It is my EDC now and I trust it with my life, but I would never carry it with the stock trigger.

I think alot of people hear something repeated on gun reviews and just repeat what they hear without having ever tried out the gun they are bad mouthing. And also we tend to get caught up in techinical points that dont mean a damn thing in real life scenarios. I think if youre in a self defense situation youre not going to even notice the long pull or the reset. As long as it goes bang when you need it too and puts the shots on target thats all that really matters. Never owned a pt111 but from what ive seen it does all its intended to do for a reasonable price. Whats not to like?

I have put close to 1,000 rounds of all types of ammo through my PT- 111
g2 Millennium since II bought it about one year ago. No jams, no misfires and I love the trigger.
Most reliable semi-auto I have ever owned. No problem with sites accurate right out of the box.
    Guide rod no problems.

I only had issues with steel casing rounds. Otherwise I love it.

I agree with you. Initially the trigger pull is long but the follow up shots you don't need to release the trigger all the way, just enough to get the reset which is very short.

I’ve owned one for about a year now as my first handgun and it’s pretty accurate I have no doubt better guns exist but fit the price point it exceeded my expectations.

Great video; excellent point about the trigger. I think there are probably a few gun owners out there who have been confused by all the internet gun experts saying that Taurus makes junk guns. You are correct: this is a defensive firearm. It needs to be cleaned and properly lubricated. Owners need to get proficient with it and maintain their skills so that it's not a new experience every time they take it out of the box.

The people that complains about this are the same people that complain about their name spelled wrong on a Starbucks cup 😅
But mostly people that never fired this pistol.
I’m from Miami so I support Taurus..
My 2 newest gun is beretta and Taurus, I fired 300 rd on both with the cheap Winchester USA forge 9mm.. that ammo is dirty.... both beretta and Taurus have zero failure.
I wish one day smith and Wesson brings out a sv9 sub compact because the price of that pistol is great just like the Taurus

I love mine. Learned about the reset recently. I'm a new gun owner so learning to shoot on this makes you more accurate when you don't have a long trigger pull. All in all agree with most. Best value gun ever.

I don't get it either, I like that pistol. I used to carry it but all I have to say, it is accurate firearm. I was hitting 4-6 inch steel plates at 25+ yards easy. Just hating on Taurus. It in my opinion the best firearm in a long time that Taurus has produced. Really like the little shooter. I agree it's a carry self defense trigger. Also come on 12+1 in a pistol the same size as the Bodyguard which is a great firearm also but holds 7+1 maybe 8+1 of the same caliber.

I have that one and just bought the G2. These guns are very good firearms. I’ve had no jams,FTF,nothing from both of them. The newer ones,I feel, are a little better, but I’d carry either one. I’m a Glock guy,but this firearm and the newer ones are great. Can’t wait to get the G3.

I think you got it exactly correct I have the 709 slim also and it has the same trigger as the PT 111 G2 and once you get use to that first long and very light pull you will love it, I do. Thanks for trying to inform people who haven't tried one.

The trigger doesn't look problematic to me as long as the weight is not very high, besides the gun just looks cool and has a great price!

as an owner, i would say it's like 5 pounds restrike. when pre-cocked, like 3 pounds maybe. it's super light and smooth.

Biggest problem for me is the location of the break. It’s super far back on mine which is really awkward in my hand. This makes it feel a bit awkward and makes it feel a lot heavier than it is. I still shoot it pretty decent, it’s just uncomfortable to practice with. It’s all about distance from palm.
