    I'd never heard of the My Dial function until you mentioned it in another video. I configured My Dial in my a6600 and it's really handy, I'm crossing my fingers hoping the A7c has that functionality included. I've pre-ordered it and hoping for the best. If it doesn't have MY Dial it's not a deal breaker or anything, I'm still learning how to use the Sony system as a hobbyist. Between the 2 cameras I should learn a lot so when I finally get that A7sIII with the control wheels and custom buttons it should feel like driving an automatic after driving a stick forever.
    Great video, I always learn something on your channel.

      Thanks for the great comment! Glad you got both cameras - let me know if you find anything out when you get your A7c. Just wish it had some more buttons...

      @@tnbtech262 So I got the camera and found that you can set up the Control Dial on the A7c to use the My Dial settings and it's working out great. I reassigned the shutter as the record button in video mode. The record button can be used as a custom button so I use that as the My Dial 1-> 2-> 3 toggle.
      This setting was a game changer for me, the cumbersome nature of settings differences on the A7c made it awkward to use at first, this fixed it (for me).
      Your tutorials have made using my cameras a much more pleasing experience.

      Super glad it worked out! Thanks for letting me know. Also, since the A7c has a dedicated Exp Comp dial, you really don't need myDial for aperture or shutter priority - so you can use it solely for manual mode which makes my previous tutorial extremely relevant for you. I'm about to upload a new video dedicated to aperture and shutter priority for A6400 cameras, but you have a better setup. Congrats!

    I don't have an issue using the rear wheel and it works fine. I've never (ever) accidentally clicked the dial whilst doing this so that is a non-issue. Many lenses now have an aperture ring too so that helps also. Even the new Samyang lenses allow the ring to be used for aperture.

    • @tnbtech262

      Well...if you have 'never (ever)' accidentally clicked that rear dial, then you are a better man than I :) !
      Still, there is ample evidence that it is not the best ergo for a camera of this type, and I stand by my review. There is simply no excuse to have sub-standard controls on a camera like this in 2020.
      The fact that lens manufacturers (including Sony) have started to put aperture control rings on lenses DOES make things better, but until all lenses you need have this feature, you'll never (ever) have a good, repeatable, workflow. Sony was smart to copy Fujifilm by doing this - now they should copy them and add another dial!
      In any event, given the MyDial feature, we can BOTH use these cameras and be happy!
      Thanks for the comment.

      @@tnbtech262 No really never. So I don't think it sucks. I think Sony have positioned this as s point and shoot style camera as they purposefully removed controls and have given it a poor viewfinder. They seem to assume users will rely on their amazing AF and presumably good auto exposure. If you want good controls there is the A7III I suppose. I have an A7C on order.

    • @tnbtech262
      @tnbtech262  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I hope you are incorrect - positioning a $1800 FF camera as a 'Point and Shoot' in 2020 would be a big mistake IMHO. Adding a couple custom buttons would significantly increase this camera's appeal, and I believe that's exactly what they'll do in the A7c Mark II when it comes out. I'm also hoping for 1 more control dial which would make the camera ideal. Just cause these things are present doesn't mean you have to use them, but if they are not there you are screwed. Thanks again for the comment, and good luck with the A7c - let me know how you like it.

      Agree best to have all controls on the body, especially if you change lenses often. Also agree it's crazy to see folks go for Fuji cameas because of "all the controls" then use AP, SP, or full auto.

    I got an a7c coming from a Lumix G9 which has many customization, dials and Joystick... I rarely used them. I shoot 50/50 video and photo. Out of my photography I shoot about 50/50 Manual and Aperture priority. In general if you want controls don’t get the smallest FF camera, These limitations are not Flaws, they are choices to keep the body “Compact”.

    • @tnbtech262
      @tnbtech262  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      In gen I agree, but honestly I feel Sony could put another control dial in the front - they just don't want to. It's product differentiation, not technical necessity, that makes manufacturer's purposely cripple some products. They need them to be different, otherwise all cars would have 12 cupholders!

    I think the A7III would suit me better. I am happy now with APS-C, but if I do go FF it probably wouldn't be an A7C.

      That's why it's great to have so many choices now! Thanks for the comment!

    Great video as always! The a7c manual is now available online. The url for customization is: helpguide.sony.net/ilc/2020/v1/en/contents/TP0002410605.html
    After looking into it, you cannot have button re-mapping associated with shooting mode. The exposure comp wheel is not mydial compatible, the other two dials have 3 settings available.

      @tnbtech262  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for the link - I'll check out the manual. But from what you said it does not sound promising :( Wish Sony would stop pushing us to the A7 bodies...

    • @tnbtech262
      @tnbtech262  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I just skimmed the section of the A7c manual you linked...yes unfortunately it looks to me like Sony is repurposing the entire OS/menu system from the A7iii so naturally there is no new functionality. But, it does appear you can, if you wish, customize the video button on top to actuate the myDial functionality for the 1 customizable control dial on top. This is exactly the same as my A6400, and should work fine.
      Not a bad compromise.
      Thanks again for the link.

      I've pre-ordered an a7c because I normally use an a6000 with adapted minolta lenses and a speedbooster. I think if the a7c turns out to be a dud I'll just sell it, buy a used a7iii or even an a7riii and just deal with the viewfinder bulk.

    • @tnbtech262
      @tnbtech262  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I don’t think the A7c is a dud - if you r ok with the ergo’s, then it will be a great camera for you. Best of luck!

    I can see people using full auto on this camera for photos. It’s a FF point and shoot. 😂

    • @tnbtech262
      @tnbtech262  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes agree you could do that, but really you don't need a FF camera to get great shots if all you want to do is point and shoot. Seems like an expensive way to take snapshots. :)

      @@tnbtech262 Not really, user base has shifted. Many clients and business owners shoot their own B-Roll, Photos. They are happy with their iPhones, I am not. I usually suggest the a6xxx series, but those struggle in lowlight if you don't what you are doing. Besides, the whole lens conversion thing is a headache. Surprisingly enough that a7c with the kit lens its perfect for that. It's not just a photographers world anymore

      Agree if you are doing client work, especially video, Sony cameras are great. Thanks.
