Godzilla is a very interesting character. He has been portrayed as both a destroyer and a protector of mankind depending on the movie or TV show that features him.
Just to clarify, the movie was originally made in 1954 for Japan. But when Toho decided to release it in the US, they wanted to add an American in to make it relatable to US audiences. That version was released in 1956. Interestingly to Americanize the movie they chose a Canadian actor, Raymond Burr who went on to play in Perry Mason. He also returned in a sequel, Godzilla 1985.

My only sadness about current Godzilla movies is they are more action than fear. This first movie you only saw Godzilla a few times and he was really just this unstoppable force. Then in later movies he became more of an action star. I really enjoy this and Godzilla 1984 the best of all the movies. They are like man really struggling against a force of nature not a battle royal game.

@@michaelfodor6280 I remember when it’s one of the first scenes with Shin Godzilla’s 4th/ final form, and it plays Godzilla Appears from Terror of Mechagodzilla(ToM). In ToM, the song is heroic, when Godzilla arrives and stops Titanosaurus from destroying Tokyo(I think Tokyo). But I’m Shin Godzilla it’s just a scene full of dread, where godzilla is fully an unstoppable, indestructible force. I love that movie so much.
You guy's should do more godzilla video's about the heisei & millennium era & even the monsterverse & so forth. This would be a fine edition to ya'lls channel.

Glad to see this entry. I first saw the original Godzilla film on TV as an afternoon movie when I was very young. I now have it in my movie collection. By original I mean the Japanese film, not the Westernized one with Raymond Burr.
Been expecting a Bestiary video on the quintessential king of the kaiju himself. I wonder if this was related to this "Bestiary Disaster" that was mentioned a while back. It's easy to draw a straight line from the rise of Godzilla and the kaiju to the rise of heroes like Ultraman and the various giant robots deployed by the Super Sentai teams. (Come to think of it, does anyone want to see Godzilla vs Ultraman or Godzilla vs Pacific Rim Jaegers?) Anyway, I hope you'll do more Bestiary videos from the world/worlds of Godzilla, especially with the upcoming film coming up (assuming you can find enough schnooks, I mean, more brave men to try to investigate the Godzilla mythos).
Godzilla is not evil. Godzilla is nature incarnate. It’s natures way of teaching mankind of how small it really is. Like a typhoon or hurricane all you can do is get out of the way.
The professor didn't disclose the existence of the oxygen destroyer. He was betrayed by his fiance' who was in love with another man. Doubly betrayed by this woman he chose death rather than have his dicovery used by a world he knew would abuse it and turn it into a weapon of war. In the end he really gave his life to save countless millions from his discovery and secondly to rid the world of Godzilla. His real statement in his actions was that Godzilla was more the result of our abuse and that the real monsters of this world were mankind.

what ? wasn't godzilla just an ancient reptile that hibernated years then after being hit with nuclear testing was racked with keloid scars as its flesh became tumor like because of radiation im pretty sure godzilla's original story was that at least for the very first film but later on they kind of just ditched that and said he always looked like that.

With the latest Godzilla movie a few days away, it's nice to go back and pay respect to the first.
And with the new Godzilla Anime coming out the day after.
