  • This video is a non-promoted, non-scientific short term test review of the Nishua Super light carbon helmet.
    I used the helmet in the autumn in different weather conditions. Several sunny 25+ celsius single trail rides, some really chilly and windy road adventures and some highway commuting.
    There is a footage in the video I refer to @ClemensGleich • Hacked: Nishua Enduro ... .

    I tryed that helmet today, feels great, but my dealer told me the new 22/06 version is coming June, you can see it already on Louise side "enduro carbon Evo". Looks a lot different.

      Definitely worth to wait to check the new one, if you are not in a hurry to buy one.
      I just checked it on Louise site, the plastic parts are totally new, maybe even some modification on the shell too, but not sure about that. The front "Darth Vader" mouthpiece seems an open/close vent, pretty good for winter rides, but puts the helmet camera - if you use any - about 2 cm more forward. (more weight away from the center)
      Also the new one is 1400g contra old 1040g. Let's hope they made the shell thicker! (the old one is really thin)

    It's approved according to ECE 22.05 which is the requirements in EU which all helmets are approved with. Also carbon fibre is extremely STRONG and light and this is the same shell which Klim Krios is made of which cost three times as much so it's probably safer than the price says.

    Of all the helmets i have had, and worn out over the years this one ranks just on par with the Arai tour x4 in my opinion, its lighter and slightly less comfortable so those 2 things balance each other.. once you had a helmet this light there is no going back to the heavy lids👍 i too ride a T7 and im 185cm tall, to avoid buffeting and weird vibrations in the peak i just went with a short puig sport screen, it works like magic 😊

      Totally agree, I love the Arai, it's a masterpiece, but the price and the weight... If I would ride a world tour, I would pick the Arai for safety reasons. I use the Insta 360one RS, but I bought it before the release of the Insta360 x3. If I'd buy now, probably I'd pick that one. Maybe.
      I use to mount it with a flexible rubber legged mount with the included mounts (photo mount bolt type one).

      @braapt7  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you! 😊✋ Maybe I should make a comparison video? =) Probably I will.
      But until then I can say, the main difference is the light weight and the motocross goggles fit under the visor. Better ventilation. The double D lock. I love all these in the Nishua. Also the padding feels to me more comfy. (softer, less characterized, which is good or bad, depends on your preference IMHO) Put it on your head is much more struggle than ADX-1.
      ADX-1 is more versatile, I love it's built in sunvisor - however really annoying when it's up and it makes the noise on bumps and even while walking around -, the flip up chin on tours, if you go in shop, talk to anyone, eat, drink keeping the helmet on. Padding is more firm, if you prefer that.
      Nishua's peak is noisy and rattling at T7's wind turbulence, the ADX-1 is firm, but it shakes your head vibrating. In full wind both is about same stable at low windshield position of the bike.
      You can set the Nishua's peak angle while the ADX-1 is fixed.

      @braapt7  ปีที่แล้ว

      Well, if you are more into adventure ride style, focus on the travel on tarmac - gravel, nothing really sweaty, not really frequent use of motocross goggles, I'd say go with the ADX.
      (You can still use the goggles, but it's not as comfy as with the Nishua.)
      If you are into harder adventures and frequent use of motocross goggles, or you have bigger sized glasses to wear, and don't mind to take on and off the helmet frequently on every stop, (and you will not miss the noisy built in sunvisor) go for the more spartan Nishua.
      But most importantly try both, your head shape and comfort expectations may be way different from mine. =)
      Take your time Patrick, and choose the best for you! ^^

      I am happy you liked my review! I can wear the glasses and the goggles together and same time close the visor. A triple protection! :) Unfortunately at low speed at cold weather it gets foggy with the closed visor. At least for me with these goggles and glasses. (You can see my glasses in the video, and the goggles too. The goggles are the 100% Strata 2, and the glasses... well, a thick plastic fashion-frame woman's glasses. Could it be possible to somehow close off the vents when it's cold? Maybe ductape on the inside?

      I am sure you can tinker something around to close the openings, however I don't think it's easy. Ductape never works for me in long terms tho, since the glue gets messy (either gooish or rockhard) and the plastic tape just fells off. But works on short terms for sure.

    I am going to by one, but i have one question regarding size.
    I'm just between small and medium.
    So can you tell me if it's big or small compared to other helmets.

    • @braapt7
      @braapt7  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      My head shape is oval with heavy forehead, and I usually have problem with this, since my head size is between M and L (59cm), and usually the M fits tighter, but no place for my forehead.
      Then if I buy the L size and the foam gets weary L becomes just a bit wobbly. This was by Scorpion Exo, Shoei, HJC, NZI and Airoh.
      At this Nishua the foam is really thick, and I think the hard foam a bit larger as usually. I bought the M this time, because the L was really comfy, but when I shaked my head and pushed the helmet around, the soft thick foam let too much wobbling around.
      At firts the M size was super tight, and even uncomfy after 4-5 hours of riding. After the 3-4th ride it became a bit "broken in" and got comfy enough to wear it all day ride. Now, after a winter and late autumn season it is really comfortable and fits perfect.
      I still wonder how it will feel in summer and at the end of this season.

    hi, can you tell me if the peak vibrates at high speeds or remains stable? Thank you

    • @braapt7
      @braapt7  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hai!
      Yes, it vibrates.
      On the T7 I set the windshield for chest protection only, so the helmet get all the wind as it comes. If I keep the helmet in one specific position it's stable and not vibrates at around 120-130 km/h, and the noise if acceptable with earplugs. :D
      I also added some DIY layers between the helmet and the peak to reduce the rattling. It's made of neoprene, and it helps a lot.
      The peak is soft material, so even if it rattles, doesn't shakes the whole helmet.
      I hope I could help!

      @@braapt7 I have the same problem with some helmets with the desertx, I have an adx1 now but I'm looking for a light helmet for the neck but which doesn't vibrate the peak. I do not know what to do. thanks anyway for the reply

    • @braapt7
      @braapt7  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I have the ADX1, and in that helmet this vibration is much more annoying.
      The peak on the ADX1 is attached only on sides, and it's material is hard. This way the vibration was transported to the whole helmet and my head inside, and after two hour ride at faster speed (120-130 kmph) I had a headache and I could not concentrate.
      In the Nishua it is different. There is the shake and vibration if wind conditions or head position is not optimal, but the vibration doesn't got that direct the helmet, so I can ride at higher speed without headache. Also the helmet is superlight.
      For me it was a solution, although I am sure there are many other helmets I didn't try on yet.
      One thing I am sure now: I will always seek for the lightest one available for my needs - considering safety and functionality. (and I really miss the sunglasses and the flip up function, but it was still a good trade for weight reduction)

      @@braapt7 I understand, you were very clear. the only helmets with these characteristics besides the nishua are the klim krios pro and airoh commander carbon. a piece of advice: you can try to mount the peak of the krios pro which costs €45 euros, it is identical but if you pay attention it has different features and could solve the problem. Hello! How would you rate the helmet long term? I just received mine and the quality seems kind of poor. Took me 30 minutes to adjust the visor propery so it would close.

    • @braapt7
      @braapt7  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello!
      Well, if you compare it to the top brand helmets (Shoei, Arai), it's a poor quality, indeed. Will not last maybe even half of the lifetime of those ones, especially if you hit it hard.
      But... even it's price is much cheaper.
      This helmet is made in China, and - as all other things made there - it's made of Chinesium, the magical material, which can be from shitty quality all the way up to acceptable quality. Sometimes even 'almost good' quality.
      This quality seems random in each individual item.
      I ordered my helmet into a shop - in three different sizes -, there I could try it, check it's quality and I payed for it only after I found it good enough.
      I am lucky I live nearby a shop, where I can order things like this.
      I had no problem with visor closing, no gap, no wiggle, no extra wind.
      But this helmet is not comparable with top adventure helmets for sure. The peak and the visor is weak. There is no dropdown sunvisor.
      I consider this helmet for "adventure enduro helmet" as it says in it's name.
      I love it's pros: lightweight, cheap and nice comfort offroad riding... and double D ring lock!!!
      Also I learned to live with it's cons. =)

    • @braapt7
      @braapt7  ปีที่แล้ว

      I got size M of all brands, my head is 58cm around, oval shaped and heavy forehead.
      What I can feel suddenly compared to Shoei, Scorpion, HJC, Airoh, Just1 - Nishua has more space for my forehead and my glasses, and it pushes much more my cheeks. I think this is because the thicker foam on cheekpads and around the head.
      Thick cheekpads were strange at first, but now the foam is broken in, and it's fine, helps to hold the helmet firm even if I hit something hard.
      I really love the paddings of the Shoei, it is comfortable and leaves enough air space to get rid of sweat. I wish it were lighter and smaller... 🙄
      Nishua has much more contact with your head, I am curious how it will ventilate in really hot summer days on the motocross track. :D (I got motocross helmet for that, but I am still curious. =) )
