I've come to the conclusion that even after everything ceases to exist, we'll still get brand-new Pokemon Cafe Mix updates

U guys see Pokémon as a game or any other series that’s either good or bad but it’s not that it’s more than that
It’s a culture and a lifestyle a living breathing world with a story and lore and characters
We form parasocial relationships with these fictional animals because we love them so much and they have so much personality and backstory
their dev time is 3-6 actually u just don’t feel it cuz they work on multiple projects simultaneously with the budget of a Disney channel movie around 15-20mil and they have to balance game release with the anime and the cards
Everyone can say pokemon should be like Zelda or xenoblade but those games don’t have an anime and a tcg they have to abide by it’s like jenga
Also they do make decisions dictated by the competitive scene
And they may or may not share resources that part I’m unsure of

the point of Pokémon is to appeal to the widest audience possible and that there’s something for everyone from mainline to the anime to the spin offs
Well maybe if people got into the other avenues of the franchise rather than solely the games u wouldn’t be disappointed
Since the series was designed to be symbiotic with itself and to experience every avenue together for a complete experience

You have to remember pokemon games have only been 3D since 2013 that’s pretty recent compared to other games like Zelda that have been 3D since the 90s and early 2000s so obviously they’re gonna be behind Mixed with the fact that They can’t delay the game because main console for only 5 years compared to Zelda since n64

Gen 7 was GREAT
3:11 "Scarlet and Violet would be the last thing I ever buy from them until they showed signs of improving." That's exactly how I feel about the franchise at this point. It's sad cause Pokemon has so much potential to be amazing.
Annoyingly, the fact that I loved Legends was what conned me into thinking SV would be better than SwSh. Truthfully, the characters and story are great, but everything gameplay-related is awful. I'm done with mainline. Might make an exception for Legends if they keep being good

I definitely don't regret quitting the franchise after Ultra Sun and Moon. The Switch era has been sad.
Other than LA everything sucked, and LA was monotonous and not very intuitive at all. We are literally begging pokemon for more than scraps every gen and getting progressively less each time.
The part that annoys me about USUM is that it was packed with the fun fluff that *should’ve* been in SM, like surfing

i'm cautiously optimistic for Z-A, with heavy emphasis on "cautiously." Arceus wasn't the greatest, it loses a little more luster every time i think back on it, but for the first time in about a decade i was having *fun* with a Pokemon game.
hopefully that 2025 release date doesn't mean *January* 2025 so this can bake for as long as it needs
With Legends Arceus, they did specify early 2022 when it was announced (presumably because they already knew Scarlet and Violet were scheduled for the holidays). I'd be shocked if this came out sooner than summer at the earliest
I liked Legends Arceus. I just wish Feebas and Milotic were included.

At the end of the day its difficulty for me. If they literally just made a game mode that was signifigantly more challenging the games would be a lot more fun.
real. If not for difficulty in the base game, then at least throw in a challenge mode
step one: making the EXP Share optional again. it wouldn't solve everything, but i might at least care to engage with enemy trainers if i weren't already wildly overleveled without them

if you want a hard difficulty in a Pokemon game...then why are you playing Pokemon lol. just play any other JRPG, or Pokemon romhacks. Game Freak never intended for the Pokemon games they create to ever be "hard" in the first place
SV were decently difficult at least. Geetas glimmora gave me a pretty hard time.
You know it’s in a sad state when I load up Pokémon Shield, think “oh yeah I kinda liked this more than SV”, and then remember how hollow SwSh felt compared to ORAS
The fact that they are willing to slow down the game release treadmill to let the devs cook
has me cautiously optimistic,
it would be funny if, after the gen 6 games marked the start of the quality drop ,
A gen 6 revisit game would then mark a rise in quality (heres hoping/coping)
I'm also coping big time that Z-A will be decent (as fun as PLA but better looking).
If we do the math, Z-A probably started development in Feb 2022 soon after PLA released (unless they started as soon as they got the tools for switch 2, which could've been whenever), which means that by the time it was revealed, it was already around 2 years in development.
If it releases mid-late 2025, that'll be around 3 years and 3-9 months of development (taking into account the time it takes to make all physical copies and their packaging, as well as distribution).
This still probably won't be long enough to fully polish the game, sadly, but there's still some hope since, apparently, gamefreak grew from 160 employees to 212 around 2023, so it could help get a few things done faster.
What we can look forward to though is the fact that, provided that Z-A is the only 2025 release, Gen 10 could be the first time that gamefreak has taken 4 years between gens, the longest time yet. I'm inclined to believe so because 2026 will be the 30th anniversary, making it the perfect time to release the 10th generation to celebrate two huge milestones.

I look forward to people decompiling bdsp then to anything game freak makes why because that means we finally get 3d pokemon rom hacks They have been stuck as gba hacks for way too long. This essteinally means people can finally make their own pokemon games in 3d
I’m playing Pokemon Unbound and all I could think is how I’d rather pick up my phone and play that rather than my switch. Gamefreak dumbed down the games so hard it’s actually insulting to kids.

Credit where it's due, they fixed her team in the Indigo disk, and actually gave her a brain by making her send Glimmora 1st and KingAmbit last.
I mean, yeah, it's something locked behind DLC, and makes her a liar by saying she couldn't hold back the 1st time you fought her. But eh, better late than never I guess
I love it when a billion dollar franchise makes me pay 1.5x more than a good AAA game title to have an experience that isn’t dogwater 😍😍😍
They could've easily just updated the game around the same time as Indigo Disk released to make her first fight harder and fix it, but nope, instead you have to buy a DLC for the champion to actually be somewhat challenging.

I have zero faith in Nintendo or Game Freak, especially the latter. So, I have zero reason to believe that Z-A will be even just good.

I mean I lost hope after sword/shields release, but then legends arceus came out and the game was phenomenal, except for some nitpicks. So I really really hope that Legends ZA will be good, too.
You know we let them go too far when a sleep app has microtransactions
They say you can challenge the Gyms, Titan Pokémon & Team Star Bosses in any order, but since there’s no level scaling, there’s a very clear order that you have to follow otherwise you’ll either be too under-levelled or to over-levelled to face the next plot point, so there’s a very clear order in which to beat the game.
It’s just the “illusion” of open world - yes you can explore the world however you want, but wild Pokémon are also not level scaled so if you wander too far you’ll be hopelessly outmatched unable to beat or catch any wild Pokémon.
The trainers all have 1 Pokémon which makes each fight an absolute cakewalk, there’s no surprise trainers with good teams that push you a little, the only thing that interested me was exploring the new region, which was also bad just coz of how bad the game looks & performs! It’s also completely barebones, towns have 2 building s you can enter, sandwich shops and the Gym, don’t even bother entering Clothes shops because you can’t change your uniform, all you get are hats, glasses, shoes & gloves - none of which match your uniform, so even if you tried to stylise, you’d just look like someone with no fashion sense, it’s literally a downgrade from X&Y from the 3DS era!
Having areas w higher leveled pokemon is actually, to me, a good thing? It acts like a natural barrier, for example other games that are open world have harder or tankier enemies in some areas, to also serve this purpose (take Skyrim, for example)
But like you said,, there’s no level scaling so,, you just run over the rest,, I just want to make the point that getting to an area too under leveled isn’t really a bad thing on it’s own? GF, like w most things, just messed up the execution
i love that there is no power scaling because then i can choose to take on the harder challanges at first to challange myself
This is exactly where I stand! I was so excited for Scarlet/Violet, and I must admit there are some good stories. But the games were buggy, half baked, not optimized for the console they were made for.
Teal Mask had an interesting story so it pulled me back and I played the main story then stopped.
I started the Indigo Disk, realized it was more of the same, stopped after 5 minutes
Also, I still think Let’s Go Eevee/Pikachu was peak pokemon graphics. It doesn’t need to be any more realistic. Chibi, top down, with beautiful towns and environment
true SV’s map looks too realistic for my taste
It’s possible that the reason why the release date is set to next year is because Nintendo might’ve told Japanese Bethesda to make it a launch title for the next gen switch.
For all we know, it was already “finished”. Hopefully I’m wrong here but you never truly know..

Don't worry, Legends Z-A is going to be another painfully okay financial success that will paywall more evolution methods for what will probably be gen 10 comp beasts.

@@Unrruly no, I'm talking about DLC and these side-games. Take the issue of box legends being limited to the game and 1 per save file, and apply that to an evolution method. You cannot obtain Kleavor in SV by evolving Scyther with the Black Augurite-no, you need Legends Arceus to evolve it OR but the DLC to catch a wild Kleavor
How Palworld will manage to be competition otherwise

@@afro025 Did you not read my other comment? The game IS the paywall. You cannot evolve Scyther into Kleavor without owning Legends Arceus. Same or Ursaluna and Wyrdeer, but not for Overqwil for some reason despite having a very similar evolution method as Wyrdeer. If you want to obtain Kleavor, it exists behind two paywalls: PLA, and the SV DLC. It's one thing to not obtain a Pokémon, but it's another to not let it evolve despite these games being more than able to allow it
I invested so much time and hours into Legends more than Scarlet & Violet. I will continue to support the Legends series because it’s the only Pokémon game that looks and feels like GameFreak is actually putting in effort to make a good Pokémon game visually, and somewhat graphically. I’m very excited for ZA. I hope we get to hear more of the story of Old man AZ and his friend Pokémon Floette. I want to know more about Zygarde’s final form and the story around the legendary Pokémon. Also, hopefully they create an event for Old Man AZ’s Floette. What are your thoughts?😭🔥🔥🔥 I will be replaying Pokémon X & Y until the release of Z! So much nostalgia! Also, I hope they bring back Shiny Mega Gengar as an event!
Game freak develops 3 games at a time in 3 teams. Team a, b and c. So gen 10 sadly might still be in rushed development along with chibi black and white. Don't mind me i just can't be optimistic anymore when it comes to the pokemon company...
I genuinely REFUSED to buy Scarlet or Violet. The game was so buggy and broken on launch... It was clearly rushed, and yet it somehow broke sales records (or so I've heard). I don't want to support buggy unfinished crap. This is NOT the kind of quality I would expect from the highest grossing franchise in the world. It kind of sucks to be a Pokemon fan these days. :(
I have high hopes for Z-A though. Pokemon XY was my first actual Pokemon game, so I really hope they get this right.

Same here. SV look so bland and from the reviews I've seen I'm definitely skipping it. I played Legends Arceus for the first time a week ago and I love it. I just hope Legends ZA will be as good as Legends Arceus.
We have gone down hill so bad after gen 6.. specially after getting into the Nintendo switch generation

@@loserssuite I'm a bit biased since BW was my first game but both BW and BW2 felt like the best game the DS had to offer. A good story with a big region full of stuff to explore. And the pixel art style was pushed to its best.

Iirc all of the Pokemon models in gen 6 were made by creatures and were capable of being used in HD in order to be future proofed for 10 years. That's partly why 3DS emulator upscaling looks so good with Pokémon

The anime has lost all quality with Horizons nowadays as well, though I don't really mind, we finished Ash's journey perfectly and that's what matters to me
I stopped watching the anime after XYZ, I watched a couple of episodes from Horizons, thought it was mediocre and moved on.
Also good to know that the english dub of the anime is still episodes behind the japanese version and still butchers the english dub by editing out the original Japanese music.

There is something about the logo I haven't heard anyone else talking about so I don't know if other people have noticed but if you remove the "Z" and the "-" from the Z-A logo, the "A" your left with clearly isn't an A, but it is actually a letter. It's Lambda. Specifically uppercase Lambda. Which is a letter of the GREEK ALPHABET. Y'know, like Omega? and Alpha? And Delta?

The Switch era has just been incredible. Constant critical failures/controversies, pretty weak spin-offs, no preservation efforts at all aside from 60$ de-makes and one Pokken port.

The problem with modern Pokemon imo, is not only the lack of innovation, but also the lack of polish and character. The old games were so beloved because there was always something going on next. I liked the idea of a Pokemon game with an open world, but it was so empty and bland compared to other OW titles like BotW/TotK. It also didn't help that I was forced to wear the damn school uniforms instead of customizing my trainer how I wanted to(something that Sword and Shield let me at least do). They rushed it wayyy too fast and should've cooked a while longer. Legends Arceus was a good idea on paper, and even some executed well in game. I loved the stealth catching, worrying about ME getting damaged from Pokemon. I don't want a legendary or some other Pokemon as a bike. I was HMs to matter a bit more again. Maybe certain Pokemon could just have certain abilities, similar to the fan game, PokeWilds. Also, it can't be this hard to just stick with the cel shaded/black outlined anime art style. The games ran wayy better and probably would have had they not made your hair have individual hair strands and threaded textures on clothing. Just optimize the games lol

There’s a glimmer of hope with Legends ZA and I think it’s going to make or break if the skeptical fans are going to continue to support the franchise. When it comes to the concept of "Mainline Games" the answer is anything that connects to Pokemon Home or Bank in some way, and allows you to take Pokemon through the generations. That comprises more games than you'd think.

i think the worst part is assuming Z-A is using the Arceus formula nor does it utilize any larger gameplay mechanics within the game itself, it wouldn't even have any VGC exposure. it probably wouldn't help that technically the Scarlet/Violet DLC finished in december 2023 (not counting Pecharunt's story), the main franchise won't actually get any new material until the generation 10 games comes out in like 2 years. unless they're able to patch in Megas and pokemon introduced in Z-A, everyone is essentially starved. like christ, BDSP introduced no new elements from legends arceus nor did it utilize anything like...Kleavor, Ursaluna, Voltorb, Growlithe, Overquil. the only mild divergence is plopping in the fairy type since that's expected from the franchise, and the obligatory legendary medley. (which had to be patched in. presumably because it stepped over filesize cart limits, or had to ship the games out to make Christmas)
Might be doubly so if Z-A releases before Pokemon Day 2025, and they just happened to reveal generation 10. i'd assume that Z-A would be kind of an experiment with tandem Switch and Switch 2 compatibility, but clocks down slightly to maintain compatibility on local wireless/internet. December 2023 to November 2025 is kinda rough. Legends Arceus' elements was mostly used in GO, the TCG and a few special episodes in the anime which was mostly filler, with no lasting stakes or status quo changes that matter. think the content from those games was staggered either because of the base pokemon not being in the base SV or because of HOME compatibility.
They didn't show ANYTHING, they probably just panic-announced Legends ZA because of all the attention Pal World was getting.

We live in a world where the best Pokemon game on switch is PMD RTDX, the remake of a spinoff developed by someone other than GF, and the only other game to even get close was New Snap, also done by someone other than GF. This demonstrates about how much confidence I have in the current state of Pokemon. Even if PLZA is even ok, I’m just gonna assume it was a fluke

i kinda agree the dlc 1 was good but i also lost all interest in dlc 2 i barely even walked into the terarium and stopped playing and ive never once incompleted a pokemon title. something about earning minimal bbq points while playing solo, the lack of any battle facility and shiny locking everything just axed all hype for me
(maybe the build up of every pkmn game getting slightly worse with every switch entry finally collapsed)

I find it a bit amusing that there isn't that much pessimism with Pokemon Legends Z cause they didn't show actual gameplay footage.
Cause you can tell that the Nintendo fandom will take all the abuse from Nintendo, but will never have the gall to actually fight back and boycott Nintendo entirely.

My playthrough of pokémon Violet was probably the best anyone could ever have because I had no glitches to be seen. Maybe I was blessed with the power of no glitches. Who knows, but I'm probably just ranting.

Scarlet and Violet were great games, finally feeling fresh for the first time literally ever in the mainline Pokemon franchise. Adding a bunch of new ways to enjoy the world of Pokemon that no game prior offered.
Only problem? Bugs and performance. That's it.
The story was also really good and I loved the box art legends
Scarlet and Violet are yet another sign that in the current era of videogames you should never preorder or buy on day one.

I have kind of realized that pokemon just isn't made for players like me anymore. I'll just have fun playing like a dragon or dragon quest or something else thats a fun turn based jrpg because pokemon simply will not cater to anyone like me ever again. It's a sad realization but I'm tired of being let down time and time again. Its time for me to move onto greener pastures. I enjoyed the time i spent with pokemon as a kid and ill cherish those memories. Thank you pokemon for the wonderful projects that helped shape some of my gaming tastes. Goodbye.

I just been playing the older games on emulators and been having a blast because they’re able to give you an easier to tailor experience with all the rom hacks and cheats available
I'm just unable to take any criticism of this franchise seriously. Individual criticisms of aspects of each game sure, but almost everyone talking about "the state of pokemon" almost always end up just saying "new games are bad or mediocre because GF is lazy and doesn't take risks and wants money, I will not elaborate on why they're bad outside of maybe complaining about 3D models or graphics or 'the charm of pokemon being gone' (I will not elaborate on what this charm is either)"
It's all just the pokemon cycle again. People will shit on every new game relentlessly on release and almost treat you like an idiot for liking them half the time and promptly forget about it when the next punching bag arrives, then half the fanbase will randomly decide they were the best games ever like 8-10 years later, and only a bit of time after that people will actually judge the games properly (until like 25 years have passed then half the community will just say "oh that game is bad and overrated and always has been btw")
Almost every pokemon game is overall solid but with some glaring flaws and people need to stop just lumping it into one big "modern pokemon" category and then stating all of it is bad by default. It almost feels like half the people who do this haven't even played the games (and some of them even admit it), and while I can understand not playing the games anymore if you don't enjoy them stating that all new games suck despite not having played them is just stupid.

There are just an infinite amount of bugs you can casually encounter by just playing regularly, framerate is extremely unstable, game crashes not that unfrequent and in order to be remotely playable we got last second patches, like turning animation Interpolation off for anything further away than 10 meters.
You just can't release a game in a state like that, really.
In addition to that, the gameplay changes aren't that innovative either. It is the most innovative Pokemon main series game we ever got, but that is not hard if the previous gens were copy pasting the exact same formula. It's good they finally tried to go into a new direction, but that new direction got executed mediocre at best
First of all: What's the point of being open world, if you can't see anything to explore? Zelda BOTW as an example was build entirely around the player constantly seeing something new of value worth to explore, that's what this games appeal is about. The game got highly optimized and you can see most significant objects hundreds of meters away. In Scarlet and Violet, everything that's further than 20 meters away is just a low level detail terrain. Pokemon only spawn rather close to you, items you can't see far away either and honestly: There isn't much else to look for in these games anyway. The reason this is done is because of Gamefreaks incompetency to create a technically solid game, therefore to duck tape the game together and be ready to be played at all, they lower the view distance of most things drastically. Gameplay and graphics both affect each other, in this case the changes made tot he view distance also affect the gameplay significantly
Therefore instead of an open world, where you try to spot where to go next, you basically just drive around in an empty world and try to get excited about what is going to spawn right next to you. Don't get me wrong, you can have fun with driving around and being excited about what new mon will randomly spawn next to you. But you don't need an open world for that kind of stuff.
And besides the open world added, the formula is still kind of the same. The only changes to battles are terras. I think Pokemon needs to experiment more with their battling system. Not to change it permanently and drastically forever, but maybe just put a new spin on it for each new game. Kind of like Fire Emblem series changes some stuff from game to game to keep it fresh, although it on average stays the same.
Overall: It is a Pokemon game like always, but now with a open world Brite forced into it without it really getting utilized and enabled that well compared to other open world games and the technical state is just a big pile of duck tape occasionally breaking and barely being holding it together
This is the kind of stuff you would expect from a Indie developer that overestimated their own ability and sells their game for 20 bucks. But this is a multi billion dollar company selling a 60 dollar game.
Even if you would *somehow* be able to excuse the state of these games, if you mess up your game you don't charge full price for it. If you know you messed up, at least say "Sorry for messing up, we will do better next time, as compensation we will reduce the price to 50 bucks".

About "modern Pokemon", I don't think you can draw a straight line between good and bad. However, the technical state of the games for sure did continue to get worse and worse with each new title since the 3DS. Although this is a gradual change.
Presentation:
Black and White(2) were solid from a technical perspective. Very frequent use of 3D, good transitions, animated battles and sprites, etc. Some things were a bit lazy and very specific areas sometimes dropped FPS on the old DS variants, but overall a technically solid game. XY / ORAS were fine. Decent transition to 3D, but nothing groundbreaking. 3D ran quite bad, the world still looked extremely tile based, but it was nothing that bad that I would necessarily a problem. Sun and Moon had to disable 3D and still had frequent framedrops but overall it still felt like a finished game, Sword and Shield was having many significant errors and very frequent framedrops but those were usually limited to just some parts of the game, other looked and ran good, BDSP is an entirely different topic, Legend Arceus was basically a decently improved wild area (from a technical perspective!) from Sword and shield, but considering the state of the Wild area in Sword and shield that is still bad and Scarlet and violet is just the biggest shit show of a first party video game I can recall in the last 10 years or so
Gamefreaks got with the Switch the biggest Hardware upgrade in their entire history, yet their games technical state got worse and worse
@@otozinclus3593 ok but what you're doing is saying actual elaborate criticisms of individual aspects, a lot of people just say "modern pokemon bad new games suck" and not elaborate, and a lot of them just say they "don't take risks" implying they have ever taken risks at all when the closest to taking a risk they've done is releasing Black and White 1 and then proceeding to release a sequel to that (at the time) hated game. I do agree that technically they're poor games compared to the standards of the time but I personally don't mind that
Also outside of the admittedly pathetic performance and graphics for the standards of a modern game I think SV are perfectly fine games that are fun to play to me, and even though the formula barely changes I think it changes enough to not get stale. The generational guimmick (and all regional guimmcks for that matter) feels more like a band-aid fix for the formula not changing but i think they're just nice to have.
Also also most of the bugs in SV, even though hard to excuse from a company this big, are mostly just really funny and don't affect the gameplay experience negatively whatsoever to me. Never came across big lagspikes or gamecrashes very often either, and most lagspikes were completely inconsequential and innofensive and just sorta funny. Still unacceptable for a game like this, specially the crashes that, though rare, are definitely still there, but I still felt the games were good
There are tons of video essays on the internet that go into detail about the failings of modern Pokemon games. Here are 2 examples.
*Internet pit stop* has 2 videos on the decline of region design in Pokemon that does a good job of explaining why me and many others don't really like newer Pokemon games level design.
*Gireum Red* has a video called "Why Modern Pokemon Games Suck" which is less specific but goes over more than just the level design.
As somebody who started with the 3D games then when back to play the 2D games I can confidently say that gamefreak is better at designing in 2D than 3D. There are real reasons why people believe modern Pokemon isn't good.
I actually really want a Let’s Go Johto game. I had so much fun playing through LGPE with my wife, I just want them to make another 2 player game that I can enjoy with my wife. Also mega evolution

If Pokemon can be transferred to and from past/future games, it is a mainline game. Only games where Pokemon are stuck in the game they appear in are spin offs. Are people really confused about this? Of course Let's Go and Legends are mainline games. It should have never been a question to begin with.
