Brilliant Andy Stewart, lovely person, lovely personality, stayed humble,he wrote a song got to number 1.and it wasn't Donald where's yer troosers, Scottish soldier.
This was Andy's last Hogmanay performance. He died 10 months later. The show was dire up to this point. This was the only part of it that was watchable.
That song from 2.44 is beautiful I've never heard it before, the tune is " do you ken John peel" but Andy Stewart singing this song is brilliant and I can't stop playing it and crying at the same time, the words are so prophetic, where can I find this song elsewhere? God bless Andy Stewart.
Exactly', it's been hellish on TV for a number of years now. High tie we all wrote a letter to the BBC tonoutbon this type of traditional hogmanay music. (Scottish Ceilidh) This day and age accordionist, Brandon McPhee is a copy of Jimmy Shand in playing his music.
‘D’ye Mind Lang Syne‘ was a traditional song favoured by Sir Harry Lauder. Here is a quote from Andy: “I first performed this song at the Gaiety Theatre, Ayr in 1961 and in the audience was Miss Greta Lauder, Sir Harry Lauder’s niece. Immediately after the show, she came backstage to congratulate me on the performance and to tell me that ‘D’ye Mind Lang Syne’ was almost the only song her late uncle featured which was not his own composition”. Here is the 1963 studio version: th-cam.com/video/Q4ER_0rgyN4/w-d-xo.htmlsi=reYYtv8PNOBD3ha7
