The Problem With Multi-Tools...

  • They can slice, they can dice. They can do everything except tickle your balls and cook you dinner. Look, most multi-tools look pretty cool and useful. And lord knows how many multi-tools I've been gifted over the years for Christmases and birthdays. But the ugly truth is that most of these tools aren't really good at anything. They sit in drawers, toolboxes, and gloveboxes all over the world until they're forgotten.
After working for a company that sold multi-tools I realized how garbage they actually are...

I have one of those carabiners. I keep it in my pocket when I'm outside of my fence and the neighborhood strays come onto the property. That blade placement makes it the only folding trench knife that you can open while you have your hand in the knuckle bow, you just have to use the blade edge backwards with your thumb up the choil when you deploy it to ensure the liner lock activates. I'm not the biggest fan of the angle that the blade is at when held in that grip. But if you're trying to get a dog or person off you it isn't terrible.

Yeah the blade is a bit awkward but I can see the value in it in a pinch. But why pocket carry a carabiner instead of a dedicated blade?

@@edcvibes Knuckle bow. If I can punch a dog off me without having to stab it, I don't have to deal with the potential that it isn't a stray and just a neglected outdoor dog with an owner that might get unreasonably upset about me protecting myself. If that doesn't work, it's easy to open.
I'm also unlikely to drop and lose it when I pull it out under stress.

A cheap multitool is about as bad as mistaking a colostomy bag for a Capri Sun. I've had some REALLY good ones that saw heavy use doing field repairs on various landscaping equipment. I don't have one at the moment, working at a food library doesn't create a need for one.

Off the top of my head no. I can't remember the make or model of my last really good one, I lost it while too drunk to function back around '03 or '04 I believe.

If you want one that is HILARIOUSLY oversized, grab a Kilimanjaro Magnus.

Hyper Tough is a Walmart brand. I'm sure you can find crappy multitools at Harbor Freight, but this isn't one of them.
