There are four movies in the franchise (so far), and in my opinion, all of them are a lot of fun, and they maintain the spirit of the first. Great reaction, as usual, take care, be safe!

That first dinner with Roger’s family is underrated as to how important it is in Riggs’ mental and emotional recovery. That’s probably his first real happy laughter since his wife died.

Theres a really goofy parody of 'Lethal Weapon' called 'Loaded Weapon'. It has Samuel L Jackson and Emilio Estevez as long as a bunch of other cool cameos. You might like it given its a lot lighter and funny and goofy. No gore or over the top violence. Keep safe Mary ;)

Awesome reaction! Still one of my favorite action movies. Glover and Gibson make an awesome team and the rest of the series that I've seen (I've only seen the first three, so those are all I know) is great. 😀
Mel Gibson's scene at the beginning of the movie was soul-crushing for me as a teen when this was new. Holidays can be so difficult for people, and having lost his wife to a tragedy just makes it so much worse. He really did a great job acting for that, and I gained a whole lot of respect for him as an actor there.

Lovely reaction as always Mary. Lethal Weapon is one of the few series, where they kept up the quality at a very high level until the last one. Ofc everybody has their own favorite, but if you like the first one, you can't really go wrong with the others. My personal favorite is the 2nd one, the main topic is at least as serious as in this one, still the managed to ramp up the humor, making it even more fun and easy to watch.

One of the best Buddy Cop Action Comedy Films ever made!
Before Mel Gibson was cast as Martin Riggs, Sylvester Stallone, William Hurt, Michael Biehn Robert DeNiro, Christopher Reeve, Al Pacino, Nicolas Cage, Bruce Willis, Patrick Swayze, Christopher Lambert (Lamb bear), Kevin Costner, Kurt Russell, Michael Nouri, Charlie Sheen, Harrison Ford, Mickey Rourke, Nick Nolte, Matthew Broderick Sean Penn, Michael Douglas, Val Kilmer, Tom Cruise, Jeff Bridges, Alec Baldwin, Tom Selleck, John Travolta, Liam Neeson, Dennis Quaid, Pierce Brosnan and James Belushi were considered.
Before Danny Glover was cast as Roger Murtaugh, Brian Dennehy, Nick Nolte, Clint Eastwood, Paul Newman, Warren Beatty, Jack Nicholson, Dustin Hoffman, Robert Duvall, and Al Pacino were considered.
Before David Bowie was cast as Joshua, David Bowie, James Woods, Christopher Walken, John Lithgow, John Saxon, Stephen Lang, Ron Perlman, Keith Carradine, Scott Glenn, and Tommy Lee Jones were considered.
Before Mitchell Ryan played the Villainous Gen McAllister Peter Boyle, Robert Duvall, Bruce Dern, James Earl Jones, Lee Marvin, and Richard Jordan were considered.
Shane Black's original 1985 script was a lot darker and violent than the movie: The Sniper scene in the Director's Cut, there was one dead kid on a gurney, and Riggs, rather than shoot the sniper with his Beretta, he blows up the guy with a rocket launcher, and the draft ended with a helicopter chasing Joshua, who fires a napalm missile at it, causing the helicopter to crash into the Hollywood Sign. Murtaugh kills Gen McAllister while he is driving a trailer truck filled with heroin which crashes and explodes over the Hollywood Hills, raining over the burning Hollywood Sign like snow.
Riggs kills Joshua by ripping out his eyes with his fingers.
Riggs was an assassin trained by the CIA and had been mentally unstable since the Vietnam War ended.
Murtaugh accidentally killed a fellow soldier in training with his bare hands before he left to fight in Vietnam.

Danny Glover in real life is a big jazz fan. Thats why he got the jazzy saxophone theme, and Riggs got the guitar riff - you didnt notice, most dont - but as the characters get closer, become a team the 2 themes become a harmony.
There are 4 Lethal Weapon movies - they're all fairly good... Yes watch them all - there is a 5th on the way... I dont know how it'll work, as Murtaugh is 5 years older than Joe Biden.

The "word" you're looking for is "Suspension of disbelief." It's turning off that nitpicky part of your brain and just accepting the world as it's presented. My disbelief is unnaturally heavy when it comes to supernatural horror, so they all just seem silly to me.
The thing at the range where he shot the smiley face into the target started a trend at ranges that continues to this day. People still try to do it.
The other part of that scene is the little neck roll Danny Glover does before he draws and fires. He does the same thing in the alley before firing at the General.
All four movies are worth watching, but the second one will need a little background. When it came out, thing in South Africa were reaching a boiling point with regards to Apartheid, or the segregation of the country along racial lines. That plays a big part in the overall world of the second movie, but a lot of reactors are too young to understand many of the references.
After the third movie, you should also see Loaded Weapon, which was a parody of the franchise. You need to wait until after #3 to get all the jokes.

  • @Billy01113

So many miss what happens in the diner after the jump, or miss the significance of it. In his trailer at the beginning, Riggs is thinking about pulling the trigger. When Murtaugh hands him his gun, he actually pulls the trigger. If Murtaugh hadn't stuck his finger in the trigger, Riggs would've killed himself.

Truly a Christmas movie. In real life, Darlene Love, Roger's wife, Trish, had a hit Christmas song, "Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)" , from 1963.
Each year, near Christmas, from 1986-2014, she sang the song on David Letterman's late night show, on American TV.
Many folks have sung the song. You Tube has several videos of them, including a few of Darlene Love.

Great reaction! Not every reactor is smart enough to realize this is indeed a Christmas movie (Look'en at you George from Cinebinge...) The sad thing about the boss fight at the end of the movie is, it's not too far from reality. (Yes, especially for the '80's era LAPD under Chief Gates. They would definitely stand around and watch while other officers punished an arrested person, i.e. Rodney King!) Anyhow, you should watch both Braveheart and the entire Lethal Weapon series.

One of Mr. Gibson's early movies is worth seeing, Mary... based on a novel by the great Colleen McCullough who's most famous for THE THORN BIRDS. It's called TIM (1979). It's about a worker with cognitive issues who falls in love with an older woman, one of the people who hires him for odd jobs. As you can imagine, the townsfolk think it's a predatory situation... but it's really beautiful. It was remade under the title MARY & TIM (1996), which was good, too... but that one was made-for-tv, so more difficult to find, I imagine. #MoviesWithMary

Hi Marie! This movie really set the tone in the 1980s for so-called "buddy cop" movies. It was a great movie, certainly for the action, but as you probably noticed, both Mel Gibson and Danny Glover gave their characters depth and had great chemistry between them, ultimately coming to understand each other. This was a winning formula for what would go on to become a popular film franchise. As previously mentioned, you're going to really love the next one! Great review! Quick note: If you're planning on watching "Braveheart" and really like that Mel Gibson movie, then you really check out "The Patriot." Another great Mel Gibson film, IMHO.

"The Rock" with Sean Connery and Nick Cage is an excellent action film. Just for your consideration...🙂

Totally different feel, and maybe not suitable for a TH-cam reaction but I've also always loved 48 Hours

    SHANE BLACK.
This was the movie that made him a star, and his next few movies just kept escalating the violence and style, and then everything turned and he had a long dark dry stretch, but then he found his way again.
    LONG KISS GOODNIGHT
    KISS KISS BANG BANG
THE NICE GUYS (please do this one!)
He has a thing for weirdly dark stories set during Christmas-- it's kind of his trademark.
    I love the man.

Mel Gibson also stared in the real version of Mad Max. But down under movies aren't allowed to reacted to. It's the law. 😪🇳🇿 LOTR's is not a down under movie! 🙄😡....🤣😂😅

I think the phrase you couldn't quite remember was "suspension of disbelief".

I'd sooner recommend The Nice Guys or Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, also by Shane Black, the writer of this.

Hi, would you react to the movies: "Wasabi" with Jean Reno and "Central Intelligence" with Dwayne Johnson? please! 🙏

“I need a break from law and craziness. I know, I’ll watch Lethal Weapon!” 😁
Yup, you’ve got to watch the rest of the Lethal Weapons now, Mary. There’s so much moody sax music that you’ve got to experience!

Mary, was the phrase you were looking for "Suspension of disbelief"? Yeah, that's the movie industry's "bread & butter". The only problem is, the sharper mind you have, the harder it is to suspend your disbelief. Alot of stuff in movies is just WILDLY implausible, so NEVER feel bad about criticizing what you see on screen.

Yes to watching Lethal Weapon 2.
Also you need to watch Braveheart and Mad Max movies with Mel Gibson.
    Love you Mary :)

If you're going to start with Mel Gibson, you have to watch his first movie: Mad Max. After that, you definitely need to see The Road Warrior. And probably Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome after that, though that's debatable. (Sorry, guys, it's true.)

If you liked that, check out '48 hours' by Walter hill, with Nick Nolte and Eddie Murphy, both parts.
It's one of the best action comedy there is and the banter between Eddie and Nick is legendary.

Last Samurai was an American fighting for the old ways in Japan. Brave Heart was an American acting like a Scot fighting for the old ways of Scotland. pretty much the same flick.

Nice reaction. If you are interested in following Mel Gibson's movie career here are some suggestions, but fair warning, he has had quite a career: the other "Lethal Weapon" movies ofc, "Braveheart" you know about, "The Patriot", "We Were Soldiers", "Mad Max" series, "What Women Want" is cute, and one of my favorites "Conspiracy Theory". He also directed "Apocalypto" which is a popular movie to react to and quite interesting.

If you want a great Mel Gibson film i recommend Maverick (1994) and the Mad Max Trilogy , but yes you should definitely do Braveheart as well

That's so funny. You do a reaction video to recover from a difficult week and I watch a rection video (you) to recover from a difficult work-week. It's a win-win situation. Thanks Ms. Mary.
