      @elainemuir502 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      It depends how you look at it , the hot hatch term used to mean the cooking model with a bigger engine and sharper suspension..
      Nowadays people try to assign 0-60 times to the words hot hatch , i guess nowadays warm hatch would be a better saying for it , especially in a world of bmw m140i and audi rs4's , none the less we can all agree it is a fun car.

  • @choddo
    @choddo 9 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    Please please try that with the BEV. The REx is a second slower and a lot heavier, so while 0-40 is irrelevant on a flying lap, and 100+ on the straight is out of reach, the pickup from 40-70 feels very nippy to me. Would be really interested to know if there's a difference on the track.

    It's been demonstrated that the i3 (and any battery powered motor) has significantly more power/torque with a full battery rather than the almost empty battery used in the track time here. Of course the tires, etc still limit the speed capability for the corners so a full battery might not have improved the lap time too much.

      That really makes me have doubts about this video. In Europe, the i3 REx can hold its range. They could've thrashed it with a 75 miles left in the charge, but 6?! That's careless at the least!

    Just so people know and you can look these figures up for urself in Australia ( act) over 90000km the i3 will cost just $430 in electricity if you use solar then less. And that's if ur only getting 120km to a charge usually people are getting approx 140km. And service cost on average $240 a year. So to the people out there that comment on this car who ACTUALLY know very little sitting behind there PC do some research

    • @MYBESTSHOTS
      @MYBESTSHOTS 9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      electric motors have torque through all the powerband, while a regular engine starts with less torque and will gain it as time goes on. that is why it is faster in terms of acceleration,

    • @Jasontvnd9
      @Jasontvnd9 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Astreim erm.... Gearbox in an electric motor would be useless , They have the same BHP and Torque regardless of speed because electric motors can spin at 50,000 rpm and have one moving part.

    • @inox1ck

      Jason Muir no it won't be useless, but it adds weight and complexity. Halving the gear ratio and you instantly double the torque at the wheels.

    Well Suzuki have been making engines for over 70 years, mainly motorcycles and there are thousands of motorcycles on the road that they have made, one is the Suzuki Cavalcade 1360cc, V4, 112bph, made from 1985 to 1991, that have the original engine have done over 250000 miles with no work being done on the engine except oil chnagers, and they still do 45 mpg average.

      If i´m not totally mistaken I´d say It was colorgraded that way. (Else it could simply be a Cam Filter). But usually this kind of grading approach would be taken if you have shifting light settings, -like suddenly the sky is clouded and gray and then a little later the sun beams trough creating strong contrasts and saturated colors. If so then you need to pull those two different light moods towards each other - Meaning making the sunny content look a lot more faded and less contrasty while trying to beef up the faded footage.

    It makes since for BMW (who usually allow you to defeat traction control) to make the systems permanent on the i3.
    I mean who would buy one and ever want the back to step out?
    People who buy these don't want RWD thrills..

    • @ddyracer7084
      @ddyracer7084 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Why make it RWD then?

    • @ItsumiSensei
      @ItsumiSensei 9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Ddyracer D Well I'm no BMW chief engineer but they have always built RWD cars, it's what they know how to do best. Even the Xi models are RWD biased AWD..
      Maybe it had to do with packaging? Perhaps it didn't fit the architecture of the design to have the drive train be focused on the front wheels (weight balance wise ect..). Whatever the reason it doesn't matter.
      It doesn't kick the tail out ever because people that are expected to buy and use these cars would have a panic attack if they got oversteer (if they even knew what was happening).
      Point is that for driving noobs (the average road user) a car has to be safe and severely understeer biased if anything (like audis lol).

      Bullshit, the i3 is made in a factory using 95 % sustainable energy and is made up of largely recycled ( not recyclable but already recycled) plastics. Same goes for the battery and I am sure CFRP by the time it gets to the end of its life.

      It is not just about CO2 (or claimed manufacturers figures which we all know are way out, they can't even give us true mpg or emission figures for the real world). You have to also consider the eventual disposal and even the recycling costs involved, where you have a lot of batteries that has an impact on the environment. You call it bullshit but it isn't when their are billions of these batteries.

    The i3 costs more than twice as much as the Suzuki, despite being electric it will NEVER pay for itself in the long run over the Suzuki with running cost savings. The BMW is also slow and unengaging. Why would anyone buy the i3? The only people that might buy it are the same crowd who rush to buy the latest Apple product the day it comes out, regardless of how useless it is and regardless of cost. The BMW is basically a solution desperately looking for a problem. Expensive, slow and zero fun. Yet despite these findings the review still says the i3 is "a drivers car" really? A drivers car for a zombie maybe.

    • @derbigpr500
      @derbigpr500 9 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      Almost everything you wrote proves your stupidity and ignorance. You don't have any knowledge about this car, or engineering behind it, or an IQ that enables you to understand why it's more expensive than a Swift (hint: there are things other than lap times that make a good car). Same goes for the Apple comment. Typical imbecile hater with zero knowledge or experience, and an intellect too limited to use the potential of devices and judge them by their actual performance, qualities and experience they give you, and not by the specifications on paper, which mean close to nothing in the real world. The sad part is, despite being incredibly stupid, people like you consider themselves superior, because hating a product you have no knowledge about and no experience with, and therefore no right to talk about, is what obviously makes you very intelligent, right? Try to disprove me, as a medical student (and someone with a 5 year university mechanical engineering degree) I meet and work with a lot of people like you, who "know" everything about everything, and give their uneducated opinions as often as possible. You've never even seen the i3 in person, let alone driven it, and you know it's an unengaging car and it's zero fun. On the other hand, people who've driven more cars than you will sit in during your entire life call it a fun and a great car...strange.

    • @JeffKubel
      @JeffKubel 9 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I have a Nissan LEAF, which is even slower and less engaging than the i3. But I would rather be driving an EV like the LEAF every day than pretty much any gas hot hatch on the market comparable to the Swift. Until you've driven an electric car, you really don't know how archaic gas cars are. I challenge you to test drive one.

      Jeff Kubel I have driven a Renault Zoe and although it's fine for some people I'm a big fan of the way the swift is an honest little rev happy cheap hot hatch.
      I believe in climate change and I do believe that soon we will have to go electric but as long as EV's cost what they cost I can't afford it , I'm much more critical of people driving around in 5.0 V8 Range Rovers pumping out 3-4 times the emissions of this swift than I am of people who buy a 1.6 Lightweight practical car.

Lols... i dread for the future we're forced to drive sterile shit like this as a daily driver... might as well take electric train for commuting purposes.

    • @hunghuge7717
      @hunghuge7717 8 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      +Seramics Backward thinking is really what I dread about the future. Look a little more into this. The BMW is slower - round a track, where it was never really designed to be. Off the line it's way faster and for instant punch in normal driving it's in a different league. Unless you're driving everywhere in the swift at 5500rpm+ you've got nowhere near the performance under foot.
      It costs a lot more - yes. It will also get a lot more back when it comes to selling it and in the mean time it's costing very little to fuel (under 20% of the swift presuming you drive the swift like a vicar), doesn't need oil, filter, etc at service time, is far kinder to it's brakes thanks to regen, wil never need a clutch, gearbox or catalyst. Ownership costs wise over 3 years the i3 is way less expensive than a swift diesel never mind a sport. Even an aixam 500diesel will cost more to own. I'm sure they're a hoot if you're into that kind of thing.
      No sound - it's not loud like an ice car but there is sound. Like a quiet jet kind of sound as it winds up. Maybe you should try one before making silly comments?
      No fun factor - well he seemed to like it and again it's not what it's meant for. Drive one on normal journeys and it's a brilliant experience.
      It's heavier - so what? Almost everything is. It's a similar weight to a Mini which have a pretty good reputation for fun.
      Goes slower round a corner - that would be because, again, it's not meant as a track car. See the bicycle size tyres? It's designed to save energy. Again I'll remind you that to own something as cheaply as this you would have to be in a very crap car indeed.
      Basically you've obviously never even been near one, much less driven one so please keep the silly clarksonesque posturing where it belongs.

    • @Seramics
      @Seramics 8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      hung huge so u have driven both? then why u comment so long clarksonesque yourself then? backward thinking lol... people like you doesnt know how to appreciate real substance and only care about the latest tech..... why do you think people still prefer drive stick nowadays? arent CVT, dual cluth has been around for a long time? ohh, in many cases, dual cluth breaks time all the time too, newer is better right?
      i have owned hybrid before and its pure shit, carrying aroudn a heavy batt which needs expensive replacement latter....
      and Swift Sports is a petrol car, not diesel, if it is, then ur talking about the wrong Swift... what about u do ur homework before coming up with a counter argument?
      why do many people still like cars like Evo, RX7? these are so old car.... you have no idea what im talking about do u? bloody noob... go ahead with ur shit pretentious lady electric car lol.... what a jokester
      dont come crying to me if you drive like a lady and doesnt know how to shift a gear manually ok?

    • @Seramics
      @Seramics 8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      hung huge you're a complete noob if you tell me owning a BMW with advanced technology over the long term is gonna be cheaper than a simple Suzuki Swift Sport which is build mostly mechanically. have you owned a BMW before? just entering the service centre gonna cost a lot more due to higher qualifications of mechanic required to service your car........you sound like a bloody 3 and a half year old kid playing mechanical vs electrical toy car

    Years ago the first 'mobile' phones were the size of a suitcase.
    We all laugh when we see photos of them now, but without them we would have never got to the mobiles we love now.
    This is only the first gen of electric cars, just like mobile phones the advances will be massive compared to traditional combustion engined cars. But that will only happen as long as early adopters spend their cash on cars like this.
    We are also on the verge of a massive breakthrough in battery and charging technology (remember the Tesla has to make do with laptop cells). The future of electric cars will be mind blowing as the sheer torque from electric motors is beyond what a traditional engine can deliver.
    I guarantee you one day you all will be talking about cars in your day to your grand children, and they will be rolling around on the floor laughing and saying 'no way, you really used drive around in cars filled with highly flammable liquid with smoke coming out of little pipes at the back!' :)

    What a piece of ugly shit that BMW is. Slow, ugly and expensive. What a perfect combo. I'd take the Suzuki anytime. Also, fuck this green car shit. The pollution emitted by the cars in the western world (which abide to high emission standards) are responsible for less than 3-4% of all greenhouse emissions, so you can sell 10 million of i3's and it will still make no substantial difference.

    • @weedmastersr
      @weedmastersr 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      ***** Okay, it has its strong points, but I'd still rather get a Fiesta ST, for the city. Much less economical but cheaper to buy and more fun.

      ***** Looking good? I wonder how a Seat MPV with the face combination of a bull and a toilet seat looks good to anyone. And yes, the acceleration might be good, but the electric engine won't provide much of either top speed or range. Of course acceptable in town, but for more money than a Golf GTI/GTD you're just stupid not to expect more.

    • @miljororforsprakpartiet290
      @miljororforsprakpartiet290 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      ***** It might not be meant to compete with another car at all, but in fact that's exactly what they're doing in this video, and that's what makes it relevant. I get the point that iFaggots are potential buyers of this car (buying not by knowledge, but by ignorance), but if you have so much money to waste on such a small car, I don't get why you can't just afford a Tesla for twice the price which can be used in many more ways.

      @derbigpr500 9 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Protector of the Republic
      If you ever sit in a Fiesta and i3 you will realize how stupid it is to compare them, because they're completely different cars, and in its own right, i3 is a FAR FAR FAR better car in every objective and subjective way.

    • @weedmastersr
      @weedmastersr 9 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      derbigpr500 No it isn't! It's slower, it's uglier, it handles worse, it has a worse chassis, it's not as fun, it's more expensive, it's got a worse crash rating from Euroncap, so it's WAY, WAY, WAY worse and MANY, MANY, MANY both subjective and objective aspects.

      What does Audi have to do here? Btw Audi costs as much as a Bmw, it's heavy just as a Bmw, it's faster than a Bmw in a straight line, it's better built with a greater racing history. Most Audis are even faster around the track than the Bmws (RS5 vs m3, etc..) The one and only thing the bmw has is the RWD, but if i want RWD car i would buy a Merc. Go home fanboy

      Me so that when i'm crawling in a traffic jam i'm not listening to the sound of my wallet emptying as I slip the clutch for the umpteenth time. I3 was built for commuting, will leave the swift for dead away from the lights all day long up to urban speed limits. Given how skinny the tyres are I think it was exceptional. I've had a very quick test drive the high seating position gives a great view and the near silence is very welcome. But I do have an 1999 Elise tucked away for a very fast noisy thrash when I need it.
