    Great timing with the video! I have been considering taking my i3 60ah REX to the track for the past few months, but was never sure how it would behave. I'll definitely give it a go! Looking forward to future i3 track videos!

    Looks like a great event! Even as an i3 driver, 2.5% per lap is quite frightening. 😬

    You should get a 2018 i3s bev for a track car. This is the lightest i3s model. 2019+ have a heavier battery pack.

    (Update: see my reply.) Definitely go with BEV. I will test mine on Hungaroring race track in 11days. BEV 94ah Eibach Pro lowering springs, ET28 (i3S) wheels, S software update: Sport mode. I recommend similar setup for your project. DSC off probably, or even Roller mode (that might need more experience from driver)

      Well well. Electronics can't take the beatings. You get nice breaking distance thanx to regen and low weight.
      However power is limited down to nothing after only 3-4curves on a circuit like Hungaroring.
      Will check the telemetrics, but I remember seeing as low as 30kW (40 hp) limit only 2 or 3 lines on power display. Which kills the fun, ruins laptime.
      I was expecting laptime of my 3000cc petrol BMW, instead got far worse than my old 2000cc diesel.
      2:22 petrol, 2:31 diesel, 2,49 drastically limited electric.
      I wonder if a factory i3S is any better than my "software S". (I doubt)

      Hi Who remaped your i3 to give it sport mode? Is that just a software roll back? As I'm convinced the initial takeoff has been dialed back

    • @allinTesla22
      @allinTesla22 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@Wootts007 In Hungary Wallnerwerk. It's more uploading i3S software for a dozen components. Yeah initial acceleration is def better. BUT an other service here said that a fuse in the battery might goes out (as it is smaller than in real i3s version) which is a costly replace process. So I decided to roll back to factory sw and let the sport mode go.
      Soon I will buy an i3s with the 120Ah battery anyway.

    Fun video! Always wanted to do this in a i3. Keep that traction control off next time 💪
    Would love to see a i3s track car!

    Nice video. I Myself have mounted Eibach prokit springs and 19x6" and 19x5,5" costum alloys on 205 and 175 continental ECO tires on my 2016 94ah i3 and it handles so much better. really fun on back roads! have you decided if you will make a track focused car? would be nice to see if the power could be increased even more than the 184hp in i3s. more cooling perhaps and maybe a Coilover suspension added?

    120ah I3s BEV is the way to do it. If they do another one of these, I'll definitely be along to join, as it's my local track, only 30-40 minutes from home.

    For what I have read, the i3s motor is different from the i3, ( rotor bearings are different ) not just the SW, @wisely automotive like you are the bible of i3 , are you agree with this ? Great from France !

  • @garrycroft4215

    120 i3s with its wider track lower stiffer suspension fatter tyres and a real world 0-62 in 6.4s is a much quicker car than the figures would suggest. Also turn off Traction control then you can launch and drift it.

  • @richardpiper4828

    Have you any comparison of lap times between i3 and i3s - and other EVs, specifically the ID.3?

    • @wiselyauto
      @wiselyauto  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hi Richard, we don't unfortunately. For the times to be of any meaningful value you would ideally want a control driver.

    Yes, yes, make a better track car out of a 120Ah i3S!
    In a perfect world, of course, it should be able to comfortably cope with speed bumps in the city. I know that is not possible with a fixed setup. I did watch a video with some guys, who seemingly (I did not understand their language) developed an aftermarket air suspension system for the i3. That might be the way to go?

    I wonder which wheels would be better for track 19 inch or 20 inch.
    Also if there's a way to keep the mirrors flipped in, that could help at high speed.
    Interesting informative fun.

    • @rp9674

      BMW could maybe sell the S software upgrade, although in the US it seems there unlikely to do anything that might keep you from buying a new BMW, like battery upgrades.

    • @wiselyauto
      @wiselyauto  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The 20" wheels are most likely the better option purely due to the additional grip, despite the slighlty higher weight.

    • @cadriver2570
      @cadriver2570 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@wiselyauto So 20" has better grip for bad weather too? I would love to see a video on tire choice, spacers, suspension lowering all in the service of improving stability. And the cons as well (ride comfort? stress on suspension/bearings?)

    Use a BEV I3s please. Basic I3 with REX is no good for performance.
